Likely the best video I’ve seen on tarpon leaders and fantastic on rationale: thickness/flexibility, step down, stretch, class & bite tippet, etc. Would love to see a video on the “covernangle” (sp?) knot you mention.
A lot of good info there. I don’t understand people who throw straight 50 or 60. It’s like not having fuses in your car and burning up your electrical system.
Being a beginner fly fisherman, I was told hard mono, but from there I was also told the diameter of the leader material matters more than weight rating. Butt section should match thickness of fly line, then only drop between .10 to .15 between mid and bite section. Regardless, casting any of the formulas takes A LOT of practice. Wish I could master the cast. I enjoy the sport, but I suck at casting, especially with a leader over 8 feet, lol.
Nicely done. One of the better videos like this I’ve seen

That's a fantastic way to look at it!
Solid content. Thanks for the tip on using hard mono.
never been tarpon fishing, but i find this super informative
Thanks chip glad you liked it! Much of these ideas can be applied to many situations and leaders

Need a winter time redfish leader tutorial. I always overthink my leaders too much and end up switching to the premade umpqua leaders
That’s a great video!
The 7 turn minimum Uni knot is preferable to the Blood knot any day.
Would this recipe work for a 10 wt line?
What is the best leader to fly line connection for large gamefish like tarpon?
Nail knot or snell knot with a half hitch in the fly line so it doesn’t back out or slip out, then use UV curing glue to smooth it all
