The first thing I noticed about this reel is its weight th-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!
Thank you for your expertise just moved back home to Puerto Rico after retirement taking up fishing haven’t done it since my teens. Caught a beautifulTarpon the other day now its all I want to do. Thanks again for the tips 🌞🏝️💦🦈
Recently got a Penn Spinfisher Vi 5500 on a fenwick elite 7'6 MH rod. 30lb nomad braid. 50 lb fluro leader. Still haven't gotten a tarpon yet. Maybe this weekend
I saw twoTARPONS! LOL Sunday, I said why cast at them I didn't have the right bait! And I had that split tail lure In my bag! Now I know 😃 Thanks I'll get this combo
Nice videos, subbed and following, been watching and learning a lot. , I'm in down in swfl and want to get one of these heavy set ups for surf docks, pilings, under bridge, piers and Jetties type of fishing ( land based fishing, no boat ) Would you advise the 7"6 MH with the 6K reel or the 8" XXH with the 8k saragosa. If you had to choose 1. What would be your first option that provides more versatility ? I already own a 7 medium st croix avid paired with a vanford 3k and a premier with a stradic 4k. This would be my heavy set up. TIA 🙏
Not related to this video but some time back you recommended a landing net. I find that I need one now but can't find the video. What was that net and where can I find one?
Hi Capt, C A, I see you are a fan of Shimano Saragosa.. What is your opinion of the Daiwa Saltist MQ 6000 which is what I was going to get. also specifically for same size Tarpon?
Im trying to catch my first tarpon off of the jetties in Texas. The problem I see is that they tend to push away from rocks making them hard to reach. What kind of rod would I be looking for in a situation like this to try and get the longest possible cast? Im trying really hard to stay away from the surf style rods because some are heavy and clumsy to cast especially if im not the only person up on the rocks. Any recommendations would be very greatly appreciated.

My exact set up. Caught a few in the keys last month
Spinfisher is my go to reel, I would probably go with 6000 for big game fish, but it should be enough.
my favorite video that i watch 500 times

Capt CA, I notice that i get a lot of line twist when using the jerk Shad’s. Specifically the 7/8inch version. Have you noticed this?
Rod tip up and a slow steady retrieve… no twist

CA do you have a “best” water temperature for Tarpon to eat? Loved this lesson!
Once we reach 78-80 degrees its on
What pound test fluoro do you use?
So what pound leader , material ? You neglected to mention.
40 to 50lb
40lb is taking chances, I’d go 50-60.
40-60 pound floro
Tarpon time!
What size/type leader are you using? Thx!
Seaguar Fluoro in 40 lb to 50lb weights
Does anyone know a good 2 piece rod for tarpon ?
Is the rod fast or extra fast . It's not hard to see the info when you show the rod.
It’s Extra Gast
Are you ambidexterous? I see you use both left and right hand reels debending on the weight or casting reel.
You don't really need 200+ $ reel. Penn Spinfisher V-VI will be enough. If not, you can go with slammer and it will stop anything.
that rod would be perfect in an 8 foot version. i'd even go 8' 6"
Two piece body. Half plastic and half aluminum. Sealed bearings
