  • Hey all,
    Today I thought I would cover off on a long debated topic, and one that is often asked by beginners; Should I keep an Oscar Fish.
    Oscar fish are great beginner fish, and make excellent pets, but there are a few things you need to know first.
    Hope this helps.

    Oscars are one of the fish I see most commonly bought by ignorant people so this is definitely a video that is important. So thanks Blake even though u never plan to get an oscar I am definitely going to show this to the next person trying to keep them improperly.

    I got 2 oscars, a gold saum and a marble convict. My 8.5 inch red tiger is the boss and fight splitter of the tank. My other Oscar is a 4.5" true original oscar, a 4" gold saum, and a 4" calico convict.
    I also have 2 jaguar cichlid fry born in March of 2021 that I am growing out in a 30 gallon until they hit 4" and then 1 will go in my brothers 120 and the other will go in my 115 gallon. Both our triple digit tanks are 5x1.5 ft/18.5" (Length x Depth), but mine is 24"/2ft/60cm tall, his is 26" tall
    August 7, 2021 writing this comment. Cant wait to see how big the gang gets.
    I kept a few goldfish with my big red tiger for a few months and she went on a rage spree when I upgraded the tanks and looked so guilty when I found faceless goldfish like when u catch your labrador retriever or pitbull or rottie doing something it shouldn't do. She looked so sad that she killed her friends.

    My Oscar was certainly a learning experience. Luckily i had a glass lid and a hood. Came home one day to shattered glass in the bottom of the aquarium. 😮
    Somehow the Oscar wasn't injured but cleaning up that glass was hell!

    great video blake .you made all the pertinent points without sounding like a whiney fish cop lol. everybody should have an oscar sell a kidney if you need to to pay for a big tank just do it. they are my favourite fish by far temperamental emotional and personable. they are the only fish ive owned that truly interacts with me beyond simple food drive.my biggest one wont let my wife near the tank without putting on an agro show but loves to sit and talk to me. visitors like to look at my salt display tank but almost always spend more time at the oscar tank playing with them and talking about them due to their shining personality.

    I got 11 2inch Oscars in a 55tank now going 2yrs all are fine but moved to a 75tank after 1yr.
    I've never seen any aggression, maybe aggression is due to getting adult Oscars mixed together.

    Hi! I have a tank that is a bit bigger than 90 gallons (51'' x 24'' x 24''). Can i have in this tank 1 Oscar, 2 Electric Blue Acara, 1 Blood Parrot, 1 Green Terror, 1 Geophagus Tapajus and 1 Senegal Bichir?
    The Geophagus and Bichir I want so that they can clean whatever food falls to the substrate.

    • @BlakesAquatics
      @BlakesAquatics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bichir wont clean that well, better off with more geos. It would be a little overstocked with that mix and I think the acara would be bullied a lot.

    • @susaz7694
      @susaz7694 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BlakesAquatics thank you for the answer! is the oscar the one over stocking the tank or do you think it's the mixture of the fish selected? It's only 6 fish :( yeah the oscar grows really big but i thought i'd be ok with just one. Also, I added the acara because several people on youtube keep them with oscars without problem. or will the other fish bully the acara?
