I still have grand plans to make something using a couple of his ideas/techniques. Curly cue horn, striped woods, through-neck, through-body strings. Some day.
@@kurtownsj00 i love 6 string basses, although i don't really want it to be like this style, i want it to have an armrest and make it have some spider webs on it ha ha ha ha
thanks! it depends what kind of sound you're looking for. i was looking for that typical claypool sound for years and since adam built me that bass i've found it. if you want to have some more sounds on board you could choose another pickup in the neck position. maybe two emg 35 dc or an emg pj-set and a 2 band eq. my bass has a narrow neck but its also thick like an precision bass. the 32 scale makes playing very easy. its a nice instrument and i like it very much... all the best from munich...
That's an absolutely beautiful bass...love the design and everything and plus it sounds good. Wonder what pleasure it gives when the kids aren't around?
My algorithm keeps blessing me with Primus covers and im so here for it. Judging by this videos age im guessing that little one is shouting "primus sucks!" Along with dad by now
@gunguolf thanks a lot... i think i play the main riff from mud like this: 133 133(all h string) 3(e string). when he starts to sing, the position of the left hand move a little up the fingerboard and i play between the fretmarks. so i get more dead notes and a more percussive sound...
Dag, spot on and sounds beautiful. Wish I had a six string fretless like that! Now I’m wondering how much that might run someone! (Everyone needs a dream to save for right?!)
God damn what a beautiful bass. I like the percussive sounds the strings make but I just wish the actual volume was louder so you can hear both, especially for my name is mud
Wow awesome job dude!! Jist covered this last week on drums man.Killer tune and dam.fine bass playing man!! Maybe we can do some collaborating man? If not all good keep jamming bud! Haha that was cool when your kid came in bud.Well keep on rockin!!
Thanks for the response. I'm really diggin' it and I love Claypool's tone for my weirder style of playing. I'm definitely going to be looking into getting something from Mr. Stone. Fantastic sounding instrument, especially when you consider the price! Can you tell me what woods are in your bass? Again, thanks for posting your videos! I'm not certain I would have heard of Adam Stone had you not!
From time to time, I check for new Primus covers. You have made quita a lot of them, and they are great, really great. Thanks a lot for uploading. Also, I play the main riff in My name is Mud like this: 0h1h3, 0h1h3 (in the B string with just a single slap and the hammering the 1 and the three) and then I just slap the 3 in the E string. Is that correct? Can you explain how you play it here?
it depends. if the fingerboard is made of ebony or any other hard wood you can play a long time. the fingerboard can also be sanded if there is to much playing wear...
@bosshog7169 frizzle fry was the first primus song i learned, i had it down within about 2 weeks of starting the bass. It's a good song because it incorporates popping, slapping, plucking, chords, and slides. all of which are a part of les claypools style. It's not that difficult of a song either and it a great introduction to playing the bass with slaps and pops
Fantastic playing. I'm diggin' your videos. One question though, I'm looking into Adam's basses. Do you feel you get a lot of tone variety with a single pickup or do you suggest putting in an extra to obtain wide range stylistically? Also, how would you say the bass feels in terms of playability? Either way, I'm really digging your sound and playing!
+Maxspawn That's the case with all basses. The further you go down a neck, the less space you have to produce each note, so the first fret is always the biggest and the further you go down the neck, the less space each fret has.
I think what you mean is how further down the neck some are oddly larger in space. Unfortunately I don't have an answer for that I guess its just to add to the weirdness.
+Thatguy WhoDoesThings Those are the prices for a genuine Carl Thompson hand-crafted bass. This is a replica since Carl Thompson refuses to replicate any basses made in the past, all of his creations are unique. Considering it's a replica, I'm guessing it's much cheaper, probably between 1-2k
@bosshog7169 id recommend american life, its not really easy, but itll help you get into the claypool strumming, and slapping, and back and forth...and the anitpop was my first, that one could help you with some slap/pop, and the end of each verse is a 1/4/5 getting that down outta help too
does anybody else notice the bass guitar does not look large to the guys body... from my experience with bass guitars... they are usually rather large, especially compared to normal guitars... and this bass looks like a normal guitar to this guy in proportion... so i must conclude i either have not seen a normal guitar in a long time or this dude is huge...
quantum mechanoia I have figured it out now haha. I was just having trouble cause all the books and tabs said that he plays it on the first and third fret mainly. But from seeing him play it live I noticed he played it higher up on the neck a bit. And I figured out that it's actually played on the second and third fret mainly. So it was just the tabs throwing me off.
It's good to introduce the tiny humans to Primus early
Chris Breaux Mind showing us you playing those songs?
Tiny humans must hear Primus in tbe womb.
2D I’m literally four years older and can hardly play southbound pachyderm
Stop piping up in my damn comments
Eat your cereal also primus is top gier
Hahaha the kids like "Mom dads doing wierd shit on his bass again"

DADS ROCK!!!
If I was 4 and heard this coming from my living room I probably would’ve gotten scared lmao
You sir, are quite the primus fan.
If I could play this.. I would play it all day.
+Peter M it would consume you
Nice bass
it hurts after a while.
its pretty easy to play
I know how to play it but I just need a six string
Am I the only one that really likes the clacking the slapping makes?
Simon Terwilliger nope 😂
Simon Terwilliger that's the point of slapping.
No, but I don’t like it.
Honestly, I do too!
Sup
Love the way fretless bass sounds when it’s slapped. It requires more force to get it to sound right, but it’s just so cool
I think the kids randomly walking around adds to this video lol.
true dad
him and the kid looking at he eachother while hes jamming just absolutely melts my heart man
From shirt to bass to skill to dancing with child
You sir are one fine ol' Primus fan
Is that Les Claypool's bass?
A replica of it, Carl Thompson bass guitars like that are rare to find, and they're very expensive.
would love to buy a tribute bass like that. every website I go to is either done making them or doesn't have 6 strings available :(
I still have grand plans to make something using a couple of his ideas/techniques. Curly cue horn, striped woods, through-neck, through-body strings. Some day.

That tone is so perfect
This is what I've been looking for, someone who can actually reproduce the style of les in a palatable way
Absolutely gorgeous. Playing was nice, too.
I guess you could call this a murder suicide?
aye yai yai.
Good one lmao
Hehe. Good one
Saw this video when I first started playing bass
Tired to play it then
Couldn’t
Now I’m coming back being about to play this
"sorry for the band sound"?
You friggin nailed the sound dude! A+ :)
(The recording quality might be a little poor, but who cares?)
That intro to bob had me hype
Incredible!!
You sir, are a fantastic bassist.
Very inspiring to a beginner such as myself.
Loving your videos, keep them coming man!
Much Respect.
After this inspiration to you as a beginner 11 years ago, hows the bass playing going?

I love that bass. And awesome job
10 years later and I still watch this every few months.
Your kids are lucky to have a talented father such as you
Wonderful CT tribute. Good stuff man.
This just popped up on my suggested videos. I remember seeing this when you first uploaded. Congrats on ten years of longevity?
That was impressive dude, well done. Your kid walking in while you were playing Bob was an excellent addition to the video. Hats Off to ya. -

looking at claypools 6 strings i notice that the frets all have different spaces between them why is that?

+Mercer But on the "Rainbow Bass" some of the frets up higher on the neck where they're supposed to be smaller, are larger than the surrounding frets.
I'm pretty sure they're not spaced differently but some of them of dark.
Fasooliful Yeah maybe. But what purpose could that possibly serve?
lmao @ 1:20 the look on the kids face when he plays that note.
1:15 is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
beautifull cover
@whatlooksrightisrigh thanks!!!
sick bass man
how much did that bass cost man?

Gaige the bassist it must be cheap because it doesnt have the carl thompson logo on the headstock

How do you play the My Name Is Mud riff? The books I have and tabs I have looked at are wrong and you sound almost spot on.
Trolls Boggle by ear I guess
DuckBeak Mcderp ya, a bit low to ear tab perfectly but at least I have a starting point.
+Trolls Boggle it might be the muted slaps with the thumb that throw you off?
