Always owned Subaru’s, never had issues. Currently a 2016 Impreza and 2020 CrossTrek.
Every manufacturer has recalls. This current one is a PVC valve that may fall apart inside the engine. Easy to inspect and replace. If they can't find the pieces, they’ll replace the engine. Regarding the CVT’s, bullet proof, even got a letter from Subaru saying due to rumors on the web that the CVT’s are not good, they extended the warranty for 10 more years to prove otherwise! Class act in my books.

FFS, anyone can say, “I told you so” when something actually happens lol. I guarantee you Toyota has had its own slate of recalls. Listen, I’m not a fan of Subaru when it comes to anything but all brands have their problems. Yes the boxer engine isn’t great but it’s also had thousands that last hundreds of thousands of miles. That’s why you see so many WRX and STIs on the road that are definitely OLD. My father had a 1998 Subaru Legacy wagon that lasted until just last year with over 400k miles on it. And, his current Subaru has 250k miles. Take care of your car, know what maintenance has been done to it, do maintenance when it’s due or sooner and you can’t go wrong. Sometimes you get unlucky. That’s life.

Scotty has always had an issue with Subaru. Statisics and real-life do not seem to matter. If Subaru made a car that never broke down, he'd find one that had been in an accident and say "See?!!! I told you so!!!". He ignores the fact that Subaru corrected its head gasket issue YEARS ago. Ignores the fact that subies stay on the road and with original owners a very long time and, if sold, hold their value very well. Why do you think that is, Scotty? Most people hate bad quality. Are you saying subie owners are idiots? You must be, because they keep their cars and still buy subies when they need another. Took me less than a minute to realize this video was recycled bias with no foundation in truth.

The Subarus he’s complaining about were from 2000 to 2003 or 4 I think. They had a fatal head gasket flaw and had a nasty tendency to blow. There was a silent recall issued by Subaru where they replaced them with a new multi layered gasket which fixed the flaw. Unfortunately for my friend since his dad never took their Subaru back for service it failed at 123k miles. I found out up to 99k they would replace them for free. Anyways his was fatal and like all HG fails hydro locked the engine. The one I had ( 86 GL) ran great but had a bad valve lifter really it just ticked now and again. That car was running the day I found the rear crossmember was half rotted away. My dad says baby it, 8 hours later I hit a bump and the left rear and right rear tires are sticking out at 45 degrees and I’ve got death camber.

@red diamond71 well I can’t say 300k but the nuclear pharmacy I worked for bought cars or racked up tons of miles. I was a passenger in a newer Chevy Malibu with over 306,000 miles on it. First night on the job the transmission blew up. Had a dodge caravan with over 250,000 on it. Told them the front end was falling apart. They ignored me till it spat out the tire, spindle and half shaft and collapsed on the Highway. The Cruze they gave me had bad brakes with over 150k on it and I slid down a hill and crashed. So you can get higher miles on vehicles

You can tell this guy operates a lot on intuition and not on objectivity. He's right sometimes, probably most of the time. But he took one minor recall and generalized it to say the reliability of an entire car manufacturer is bad throughout it's entire history "since they started using those (Boxer) engines", so yeah, it's entire history. And then justifies his statement by saying they are not a "quality" car company anyway. Whatever that means.

Both went well over 200k miles with no issues. Ford makes the best truck but nobody ever disses them when they have a recall every year. Every manufacturer has had a major recall. Why is it that when Subaru has a recall it's a huge deal. I understand this recall is a big deal but most of the time the dealers around me replace the whole engine without question. Hell Toyota's last major recall was a huge safety risk but everyone shrugged that off. Now I'm not a huge Subaru fan, but I do think they are good cars. I build them so I know what they are made of. I also built Toyota's and I can tell you quality management between the 2 manufacturers and basically the same. Just FYI

Sootty you keep bashing Subaru I have a 2017 forester and I love it before I bought it I did my homework I test drove a Toyota Rav 4 a Honda CR-V was not great than I went to consumer reports Subaru’s are in the top five Toyota and Honda are not my Subaru’s hold there value Kelly Blue Book says so 5 star safety ratings across the board

I test drove the Rav4, Honda CRV, and Toyota Highlander, that's the only one I sort of liked. But the Outback... wow... What a pleasure to drive!
I tried to get a six cylinder secondhand... Couldn't find one closer than 2000 miles and almost as expensive as a new one.
And I have lugged lumber and building materials in it because I am putting a floor in my attic, 8 foot 2x4s, sheet rock (folded) just got my laminate today. I love this car!

I told my GF not to get a lower end or older Subaru. She bought a 2018 outback. Fantastic vehicle.
Almost bulletproof AWD system. Better gas mileage than 2 wheel drive hondas and Toyotas. More room, too.
Last summer we loaded over 1500lbs in and onto it, drove from WI to the OR coast, down the coast, and back. Averaged 27-29mpg the entire trip. AC on the entire time.
Engine lost practically zero power after the trip. Transmission shifting like new. You would be lucky to fit that much crap into a Honda or Toyota, much less handle the weight and get that kind of mileage.

I bought a 19 Forester over here in Colorado. I put some Continental Vikingcontact 7s on her, and the snow performance of this thing is incredible. Man, this is the best and safest ride I ever had. You being in Texas, probably don't see a lot of Subies. In my neck of the woods, I see more old to antique Subies on the road than any other brand. Subaru's gotta be doing something right. I'm not worried.

Between all the Subaru's we owned we drove about 890000 miles with hardly any troubles at all. from what i read between the lines Subaru vehicles seem to handle the long distances like we drive them a lot better then short shopping trips where the engine never warms up. Anyway, i think for us personally we would be worse off with 95% of the other brands that are out there than with Subaru. The brilliant Subaru AWD system makes the experience even better when driving on snow and ice for six months out of the year like we do.

Everybody has different experiences with different car brands. I have loved my Subarus. I've only ever had to do standard maintenance. With all of my European cars, I had nothing but problems. Always some repair to some component, that would cost me a small fortune. But I know others who have had great experiences with the same brands that I hate.
    To each, their own.
