    Went the same route. Was downsizing from Toyota Sequoia and started looking for a decent used 4 Runner, Highlander or RAV 4. All the decent Toyotas we found were nearly same price as new. The ones that weren’t overpriced had way to many miles to be comfortable with. Ended up getting a new Subaru Forester for less than any of the the used Toyotas. Now we’re shopping for a 2nd Subaru.

    I live in Duluth MN and it seems like most people have owned a Subaru or do own one. They are a really good value. I just bought a Forester because it is good for hauling around my elderly parents. It is excellent quality. i have a 2022 crosstrek MT and i was surprised the thing actually is a pretty competent handling car. i have had older camaros and it doesnt out handle a 96 Z28 but it's still surprising out an SUV. it's ability in the snow and on the ICE, combined with the gas mileage.... it's an impressive little vehicle, ample interior space for 2 adults and 2 kids too. when it comes to bad weather it is as good as my 94 S10 blazer was years ago but gets 2x the gas mileage. it doesnt have all of the capabilities of the S10 blazer, the blazer could tow 5,000 lbs and could even do medium duty snow plowing work.

    I almost bought one, but the updated crash test results made me nervous, so I decided the Outback was a good work-around. Same reliable vehicle, more cargo space, decent MPG, some are assembled in Japan and some in Indiana (but the engine is still made in Japan), and the price of the base with its standard features (fog lights!), rivaled the price of a Crosstrek in a higher trim.

      I had to look this one up b/c I was practically a "crash-test dummy" in a bad accident 45mph to 0 with a Crosstrek and I left the scene unscathed outside a developing bruise from the seatbelt.

    I have a 2013 Subaru Legacy that was EPA highway rated at 32mpg. The newer ones are rated even higher on the highway. The amazing thing is that I get even better mileage than that -- on pure highway driving I regularly get 38-41mpg -- and that's with the CVT, not a manual transmission.

    • @RLB540
      @RLB540 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same here. My wife has a 2019 Crosstrek with the CVT and her average for around town driving is 32mpg and when I drive it on highway road trips I get 38-39. CVT once you learn how it works and adjust your driving style accordingly will save you a ton of gas. Problem is most people don't drive a CVT like it should be driven (to get the best mileage). Hell even in my '17 3.6R Outback with oversized KO2s and a 2inch lift I get 30mpg on the highway, just by letting that CVT do it's job.

    • @tenrec

    I found a previously leased (34 000 miles) 2021 Canadian exclusive Sport trim 6-speed manual model. It comes with everything the US Limited trim has, except the stupid (and likely pricy to fix if or when it inevitably fails in some way) Eyesight system, unfortunately no 2.5L engine (big shame), and no Harman Kardon sound system. Cloth seats, which is a plus in my eyes.
    I LOVE the sound of the boxer engine, and the car is a lot of fun drive around in. Overall, it's a huge upgrade over my base trim level 2014 Mazda3 6-speed, which I roughed up over 6 years of ownership. Only things I wish were better about the Crosstrek are the gear ratios, the clutch, and the rev hang. Other than that, I think it's the perfect Canadian winter commuter 😄

      It is indeed very sadly getting increasingly hard for us manual car enjoyers to find nice, and especially new cars. All that because of the wilful laziness of the general population to either keep driving manual, or to learn it. It's abhorrently stupid too, when you think about how much more expensive an automatic transmission is to fix or replace, and how unreliable CVTs are known to be, despite being in almost the majority of modern cars today. Yet another industry pushing the cost onto the consumer, and most people are just gobbling it up like cheese cake 🙄

Don't get me wrong, it's very helpful that they do that, but I'm just wondering why they are able to continue to start (even though it's a hard start) on 12.25v? thanks

    I bought a 2019 Crosstrek Limited new in 2018. When only a few months old started making a high-pitched sound at freeway speeds. They replaced the transmission. Now I'm having issues with the fuel injectors. They did a multi-hour deep clean process to remove carbon which is a known problem as Subarus have direct fuel injection systems instead of port but that has not taken care of the problem. May have to replace the fuel injectors. Car only has 50,000 miles. Also had them replace the battery when it went dead for no reason three different times. Also had intermittent issues with the left door lock not completely engaging or disengaging. And, the map reading light has gone on for no reason in the middle of the night and no doubt contributed to the issues with battery going dead.

The lack of power combined with the useless CVT made it feel like driving a snowmobile but the lack of body panel, floor, and windshield insulation made it so you had to max out the “premium” (hahaha) audio volume just to get rid of the headache from wind and road noise!
