      Had he not been injured during the 1999 and 2001 seasons, he would have had three consecutive sub-2.00 ERA seasons. The second best ERAs after him were 3.44 in '99, 3.70 in '00, and 3.05 in '01. There has never been a pitcher as dominant as he was form 1997 to 2003. Justin Verlander is having a Pedro-esque season this year but it's unlikely he'll have six more through 2024.

      I would consider that Stu Miller's changeup was Pedro's equal, only because Mr. Martinez had grade A heat to set up his, and Miller's fastball probably topped out at 78-80 mph. Miller had WAY less to work with than Pedro, who, as you rightly say, might just be the best pitcher who ever threw.

      over a 4 year span, yes. I agree with you but there are guys that have better overall career numbers, so it's a debate. Best stuff is not up for debate. He had 3 A+ pitches all with the same arm action.

    Let's be frank. Pedro's Curveball was only so effective because 1, he could throw it for accuracy and, 2, his fastball was so good. I'll admit, his Sinker was good. It was a big reason he was hard to hit. But his Cutter was probably his worst pitch. It was only good because he could throw it for accuracy. In the end, Pedro was just a really good control pitcher with a great Fastball and an UNBELIEVABLE Changeup.

  • @Kane-ib5sn
    @Kane-ib5sn 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    that was a terribly un-objective assessment. 97 mph. that might give you a grade A, just for talent. but, in terms of where its thrown, C. Average. Location for a four seam fastball is always up. Not middle, and not down - that is the territory of the two seam. Because the four seam is designed to stay level or even climb - its purpose is to induce pop flies...or strike outs, where the batter swings under the ball.
    The curveball thrown by Pedro, based on this video, is definitely A. If he's throwing it with the express purpose of freezing the hitter, he's got to take off velocity on purpose, to generate more spin - some throw it harder, like Pedro, this gives it the ability to mimic the fastball, until its too late for the hitter. The two seam is supposed to be thrown low...so, here, its a C, as well. What is a A+, is the changeup. He's clearly throwing it with a four-seam type plus okay grip - and, throwing it from 2 to 9, causing maximum drop, movement, along with velocity drop. Location is excellent in the video.
    A person who really knows his stuff is Greg Maddux; the Professor - he threw 85 mph, and is hall of fame stuff. You'll notice when Pedro's velocity drops to Maddux's territory, 85 mph, his ERA climbs to just under 5 a game. Proving what I'm telling you.
