The thing is everyone is different, a cutter can be thrown by putting pressure on your middle finger, I've thrown a cutter that way for 5 years and I've never felt pain in my elbow, even throwing a 12-6 curve and a slider very often, if you take care of your arm you can throw whatever you please, it's when you over use it, because you SHOULD know that tommy john is snapping a tendon in your elbow... glad to shed a little light
I think you are forgetting the most important rule in pitching. Genetics. Some people have natural cutters, some people have natural armside run. Grip manipulation ie. putting pressure on the ball is just messing with physics and spin a little bit to accentuate genetics/armslot and so on. Tons of people have rubber arms. But a lot more don't. You can take care of your arm as well as anyone and still get tendonitis, bursitis, TJ and have done everything right. Moral of the story - this guy knows what he is talking about.. listen to him. No kid should throw a curveball until he can throw a straight/sinker fastball, and locate a changeup. Those three got me to D1, curveball became a solid 0-1 pitch but unless you wanna go pro, you really don't need anything but a get me over curve ball for strike one or to change speeds. Anyone who speaks differently doesn't know how to pitch and relied on throwing way way way too much.

I think what you said is partially true. You can have the right grip on splitfinger and it will inevitably without question over time destroy your elbow. Same is with a curveball. The primary reason is that our arms pronate naturally when we throw, so any pitch that counters this natural pronation like a split, cutter, curve, slider - put more stress on the elbow than the other pitches do. If you didn't luck out genetically it will catch up to you. But like you said, good mechanics can minimize the majority of risk/compounded damage - but don't fool yourself and think it takes care of all of it haha. But yeah, realistically as long as you practice the basics, balance at the top, balance at the bottom, good follow throw/finish, consistent arm slot, don't overuse, good arm conditioning prior to the season, good between outing routine, things like ICE, compression sleeves if you need, solid warmups, stretching all that stuff that is a staple to a healthy arm... you'll prolly be fine. But high schoolers spinning off curve balls every other pitch because it looks cool and gets people out is good for high schoolers... it isn't if you want that arm to last through college/proball because it is eye opening how much more throwing you actually do at the higher levels.

When I was in Little League I had a devastating curveball. I could throw it right at the batter, have him baling out of the box, then it would break right over the plate for a strike. I needed it, because my fastball was just so-so. Unfortunately, I was utilizing the cutter grip that Pedro said youngsters should not use, because it can do damage to the arm. At some point after throwing it for a few years, I felt a pain in my elbow, and by the time I got to high school the curve was basically non-existent. Now in my 60s, I still have minor elbow problems due to having thrown it too early in my development. Bottom line for young pitchers: Listen to Pedro, he's steering you right.

No. Bartolo is on another level of control. That one of the main reasons he’s able to pitch well into his 40’s. He can place the ball wherever he wants.

Sean he worked with David Price a lot in this years spring training. David also worked with a lot of hitters. Not sure Pedro or David wants jobs in the MLB. But they will for sure always be there to help Red Sox players

Maddux was the other All Time Great of smaller stature but Pedro was A whole other animal. Pedro threw HARD and was skinny as a twig. All the way back in LA with his brother Ramon. Then Montreal is where he really started showing US what he was capable of and what hitters were in for throughout the next Decade plus. I Loved it when Pedro pitched. Pedro is one of the best pitchers that I have ever seen !!! In his prime he would destroy the best lineups and make it look easy !! His pitches were deadly nasty....great movement and control with velocity as well. Only 5"11 and was still throwing 98mph too. And his baseball IQ is off the charts. I miss watching him pitch no doubt !! He would make an awesome pitching coach
