I have been at that intersection many times in MEMPHIS and it is probably the very last time in HIS life that ELVIS PRESLEY could walk the streets without getting mobbed -July 1956 !
Incredible information here from you SPA GUY - THANK YOU - This is as much history as is ELVIS PRESLEY on any New York TV show - As big as any moment ever in HIS life - This was most likely one of the - IF not the last time ELVIS AARON PRESLEY would be able to ever walk the streets on HIS own with out any mob of fans noticing HIM -True Story Here - THANK YOU AGAIN SPA GUY - - - - - - From " Hollywood "Joe !
A woman in a white dress in this video is shown a few times - Now in one instance she is pointing to where Elvis is asking of where he needs to go right ? But there is also a still shot moment a couple (if not 3 times) when a woman also in a white dress is standing by the barber shop ! right ? Is it the same woman ? Was Elvis on one side of the street that the woman was at and the HE crossed the street after HE got the right directions from her ?
Fantastic recreation of that walk, one of the last walks he probably took unmolested by crowds. So much has changed and yet so much remains 70 years later. Interesting to note what he was carrying as he disembarked from the train were acetates / demos for the song "Don't be Cruel" which he had recorded in New York a few days earlier, correct me if I am wrong but I believe that is what he is carrying. Thanks for yet another timeline solved in Elvis's life.
Steve - I noticed that too - In the photos in this video Elvis was carrying the Acetate recordings of the RCA Records N.Y.C. session - And if you look there are some photos of ELVIS listening on a small record player on the train ride back home to Memphis to most likely those recordings DON'T BE CRUEL - - HOUND DOG - - and ANYWAY YOU WANT ME - - -
Yes, you are correct, this documentary made in the 1980s and possibly one of the best on the year 1956. If you check out the link and go to 37 minutes in you can see all the phots of Elvis on the train and getting off carrying the records. This doc is so rt worth watching, I not checked it out in over 20 years th-cam.com/video/XOvlESTqbYs/w-d-xo.html @@hollywoodjoe123
I dont care what anybody says. Your research on Elvis history is always spot on. Backed up with photos and historical data its hard to deny any of your conclusions. Thank you for the videos.
Wow! That was so interesting. To think he just walked home and nobody payed any attention to him. I bet there were times in later years when he would have liked to turn the clock back to days like that. Thank you for sharing.
That last picture is a classic just walking around with his cousin buying some food with no hassel... getting off the train smiling is nice pics. Yea time were sure different back then. Thanks Spaguy 👍 🙏
Elvis Presley would be amazed at the research that you’ve done. Tracing his steps through his life spa guy you are amazing thank you for everything that you do. You have truly put the fans in the footsteps of the King your Las Vegas fan
Man what a story. THANKS Spa Guy for infusing so much of the humanity of Elvis into these stories, and showing us his experience as a common person on the brink of unprecedented superstardom.
Amazing....history right there on that walk. And even as just a regular guy stopping to buy something to eat, he stands out from the crowd. Thankyou for all these wonderful videos❤
Wow, it's only because of those old photos that I can actually picture in my mind how he looked walking down a regular residential neighborhood. Thanks for sharing!
As someone who writes articles dealing with show business history, I'm in awe of your meticulously detailed research. Love the channel and have watched all of your videos for a long time.
Gives new meaning to walking in Memphis. Interesting to watch live, vs, still pictures. Too bad Elvis was never questioned about certain photos taken in his younger days, what he was thinking about at the time of the photo. I'm sure he missed the good ol days if simplicity, after he became famous, walking down a street, going into a restaurant, movie theater, etc. Think too, if his mother had lived, things would have been different for him. ❤🌹
20 years later 1976 I started getting my hair cut at a place called Image in the strip mall south of Poplar. Very beautiful stylists worked there. I saw your first video of this and was overwhelmed about something I knew nothing about.
Quite Historic area ! Spa Guy,Your accurate research always give us viewers information about Elvis’s life that not to many people know. It’s incredible that Elvis walked that long distance from the train stop to his Audubon home without anyone stopping him! Amazing how his life changed just a few years later his popularity became worldwide. Thank You for sharing this historic Elvis walk! Arrivederci!
♥ It´s wonderful - to realize - that you find these super photos same sensational and moving as I felt - as I saw these photos the first time! The time back then! To watch this super Elvis - just walking back home to Audubon :-) - asking the train-men to let him jump off .... THESE PHOTOS MAKING SO MUCH FEELINGS! I AM LOOKING ON THESE PHOTOS SO MANY TIMES! ELVIS PRESLEY - THE MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE! already in the 1950s! ♥
Pretty incredible that he went virtually unnoticed at this point. I wonder if Elvis thought, at this point, if he would just become a regional success or the tidal wave of fame that would fall upon him. I don't think the latter was ever in his wildest dreams. Not even close
Your attention to detail your Mapping out what is now and what was then? It’s a lot of work and now and people in the future will thank you for giving them and Elvis map
Very unique and nostalgic photos of another time in a day of the lesser known and amazing life of an aspirig, world phenomenal musical artist, Elvis Presley. ❤ RIP, Dear Elvis. Thank you for all your research and photos. Well done video! 😊
Elvis was a Memphis boy through and though, down to earth and humble. I recall there was a photo of him sitting in a cafe about the same year as well? I guess nobody knew who he was then.
Spa Guy !!!! Your Hard Work is undeniable !!! This Video gave me the chills !!! along with so many others regarding the King whom we ALL MISS and LOVE to this day !!! You ALWAYS allow us to feel what really happened and let us get a little closer with Elvis !! God Bless You and keep you safe on all the highways and byways my Friend !! GOOD MORNING 🌄🌞 SPA GUY I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR VIDEO ABOUT ELVIS PRESLEY I WATCHED YOUR VIDEO I THANK YOU SHARING YOUR VIDEO GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND GOD SPEED 😎😎😎😎😎
Very informative interesting video on Elvis. Really enjoy your videos, very professionally done. Unlike the mumbled mess of another TH-cam Elvis channel.
I went to St. Louis School at Shady Grove and White Station with Red West's son (I think his name is Brent). We lived on Fleur De Lis Cove, next door to the school. Willie Mitchell, who I was told was very successful in the music business himself, lived on Mendenhall two houses down from Shady Grove, and about 1/10th of a mile from that Belmont Grille. Prior to those businesses on the corner, there was Bistolfi's Grocery Store. In the mid-to-late 1960's I would go there with my mother. I loved that place.
,💝 Thank you Billy very memorable photos of Elvis love your vedio . If I cannot travel ",Billy it's like that your given me your vedios in my home of Elvis to sit here and look on our beloved Elvis Thank you from Sydney Australia Tuesday 14Th November 2023❤
Spa Guy, that the photographer was on the train, the pictures he could take of ELVIS, and became music history pictures. It must be not anyone recognized him walking down the street. He did not have a hat on either. How handsome he was then, and dressed very nice. There again, he was reminding me of the Tupelo, MS/Memphis, TN boy. How intersections change, and very busy here now: 1. Nolensville Pike & Harding Place, N. P. ended at H. P. then, and think no H. P. then. 2. Edmonson Pike & Old Hickory Blvd. was a four way stop before. 3. Harding Place & Trousdale Dr. was a four way stop before. (Red Sovine went out of turn at this inertersection, and hit us. He was a nice man though. Fortunately, it was not that bad of wreck, but damage to the car.)
Very interesting video and a joy to watch. Very iconic B/W pictures. The lady across the street didn't even have a clue who it was walking near her at Poplar and Mendenhall. Thanks for posting this bit of history and you did a fine job researching the site. I guess Elvis lived at 1034 Audubon for a short while?
I wonder if Elvis ever wished he could have had those quieter days back before he could no longer have any privacy or not being mobed ? Those were the days, lol ! Thank you for covering this again Mr. Spa Guy. Absolutely see the irony...speed bumps on Autobon. Thank you for tightening up super sluth Mr. Spa Guy. Safe travels and adventures. God's speed.
