Another good one where a Seller tries to absolve themselves of responsibility: "Bike should run but I don't have the time"... which really means "I dont know how to fix it". Can see these types of Sellers a mile away.

The last bike I bought that “needed a carb cleaning” had 2 broken intake valve retainers. Both valves were literally about to drop into the cylinder. I knew it had other issues when I picked it up, but it was a clean Husaberg so I took a chance. 2 years later the bike is still in pieces due to other engine problems.

I got screwed on a 01 YZ250 I bought, dude said it had low compression and just needed top end work, found out dude forgot the gasket in the water pump so it drained his coolant out the weephole, well he plugged the weephole and let the coolant flood the head and seized the engine ruining the entire head, cap was warped from overheating too, pretty much got an entire new head, got it new fluid, new radiators, almost everything new in the top end and got it to start, now I need to test it and make sure the transmission work, electrical works as it starts and killswitch works, so I'm making progress, only worried about bottom end right now but I'm too far in now to quit, if bottom needs work then I'll learn how to work on it, whole reason I bought a broken down bike is to learn to work on them as ita my first dirtbike, I do want to learn 4 strokes too but that'll be something in the future

Just found your channel. I am a 2 stroke fan and have brought nearly 25+ bikes home in buckets to get back to glory before selling and starting over. By far the hardest bikes to get parts for were the 83 yz250, 91 rm125, 99 and 2002 kx125, and now dealing with a 99 cr125. Oem crank was available, but cylinders are getting difficult to find. I have some massacred exhaust valves due to previous owner having a 134 done and clearance the valves that I bought unknowingly😂😂 now on the search for a cdi. Heart breaking to see parts drying up when 2 strokes revamped my love for the sport after boring 250fs. My spirit is finally broken and I will likely give into buying a 06+ Yamaha just so I can get parts readily

Have done pre-purchase inspections for people and have seen two issues - sellers doing dodgy stuff like this is common - they just pay the screw forward. 2nd though is the buyer that ignores your do not buy advice and then complains about your inspection when it all goes wrong!
As bad as a seller that lies is, a big red flag is a seller that knows nothing, volunteers nothing and only answers vaguely what is asked. They are the snakes in the grass.
Selling for a friend close 2nd!

Sections like 264 of the Criminal Code criminalize conduct that causes another person to fear for their safety, which could be used to prosecute doxxing if the intent is to harass or intimidate the victim.

Actually have found a rear shock, and looking up all the info on the crank out of the 92-01.. I will definitely have to do a video on that info or what years will fit in what bikes.. basically when Honda did there changes

spray painted any color plastics is the "beat bike" giveaway. now someone putting black plastics on isn't a "giveaway" heck my brand new 2025 i put black plastics on with decal kit because it looks awesome as. it is personal taste. and i am confused and might of missed it but did you not inspect this bike before paying? also this kid actually had no clue and didn't rip the engine down and notice the case repairs. It sucks either way.

lol, I didn't mean to offend anyone that is doing it tasteful and putting graphics on for there style of what they like.. I'm just saying most of the bikes I buy to do a restoration on, and to be honest I think every bike I have done on the channel have actually been beat down and had "black" plastic.. and most don't get graphics... lol just seems to be a thing in common....

I should have seen it coming because the price was too good, but I got burned on one of these. It was like a 95 Kawasaki KLR 450. 500 bucks. Needed the tank either replaced or fixed due to rust, and a new carb.
To make a long story short, it had burnt valves. And I didn't have the space or time to do the top end. So I ended up selling it on for $300 with the top still off it.
Pro tip, bring a battery or a jump pack. And a can of carb clean. Or either or something. If it won't at least sputter, know that you're in for a hell of a lot more than a carb clean.

Con on mate really, what do you expect when you buy a cheep old bike that doesn't run ! . Expect the worst regardless what the seller tells you. Remember you are only buying a restoration project, if you want a good running bike go to a dealership and get a warranty and some after market service, and don't bag this kid out and shame him because a buyer knows what they are getting themselves in to when buying a non running old piece of sh$t.

    • @Dirtbikerepair
      @Dirtbikerepair  20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

I agree that buyers are responsible for buying... but let me say this, What if the buyer in this case was 14 years old. he worked all year to get as much cash as he could and found a bike he could afford. the seller is a 40 year old that says he spent hours restoring the bike top to bottom, "hours of blood sweat and tears" put into the bike and it worked great (so he claimed) when he was riding it. lots of power. (knowing that it has a broken case, and all kinds of other problems).
This bike being what the Buyer can afford asks his high school shop teacher. "Can bikes need a carb clean/adjustment to run?" and the teacher says, "that's a common problem..." so the kid buys the bike for a bit cheaper then the advertised price. knowing he has some $$ left to have the carb cleaned and fix a few other things just incase.
now is the "Seller" (in this case a 40 year old) at fault for "scamming" the 14 year old ? or is it the buyer who was excited to get his first bike that he could afford ?
like I said, I agree that if you are a buyer and don't know a lot about bikes or the bike you are looking to buy you should do a lot of research no matter what your age is... look at what bikes were suppose to look like stock, look at all the things that don't look like a major company would have designed.
Thanks a lot for the comment and for watching, I just personally don't like seeing people get taken advantage of... I want this video to hopefully help people make a better informed decision when buying used bike.... I have done more then one video showing people what to look for when buying used bikes, no matter what we do there will always be someone looking to take advantage of someone "Scammers" are not just in the dirt bike world.

A lot of times these bikes turn into money pits because they end up needing everything. Spokes, wheel bearings, swimgarm bearings, sprockets, chain, hardware, cables... on and on. Thats without even getting the motor lol. Half the bikes look at have chinese carbs these days too which I cant stand. I always end up selling bikes "too cheap" but i know when you really dig in its hard not to address all the little things while youre there, and you get nickle and dimed until youre broke. Ive been burned before and refuse to pass my bad experience on to someone else.

@@DirtbikerepairI'm just getting into dirtbikes again, picked up a 93 yz80 on monday for $250cad. At that price I couldnt resist. Been building fast 2 stoke scooters lately but cant wait to get the yz running. Bought it 2 hrs before heading on a trip, so now I just want to get home lol. I'm sure it'll need more than a top end like the guy figured but for $250 I can afford to fix whatever else I find wrong. Who knows, it might even run as is. Blows my finger off the plug hole so fingers crossed lol. Some people dont realize how easy the 80's kick over. Cant wait to dig into it.

That’s awesome!! We just did a 1996 rm80 on the channel that needed a bit of work… fun little bikes to work on! Sound like you grabbed it for a good price too. I know what the market on Canada is like so just a rolling bike white wheels is worth that not a days.. in Canada you can’t buy much for $250.00. Congrats on your find and if you need any help reach out! I will try to help where I can.
