We celebrate midsummer in Sweden ❤️ Traditions include sleeping w 7 different flowers under your pillow so that you will dream of your true love, eating good food like fish & boiled potatoes and dancing around the midsummer pole which is supposed to be a symbol for fertility ❤️

    • @Narnendil
      @Narnendil 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Actually, there is no historical evidence of the midsummer pole being a symbol of fertility. That's just a myth. But yeah, Midsummer is a really nice celebration and I recommend everyone to visit Sweden (and other cultures that celebrate it) during midsummer.

I'm from Cape Town, South Africa. New Years here is usually a 3 day event starting on the last day of the year where many people will clean and even paint the outside of their homes, and ending on the 2nd of jan because traditionally my people the Cape Malay celebrate 2 new years, the 1st is real new years and the 2nd of Jan is what we call "tweede nuwe jaar" (2nd new year) because back during slavery we were not given the day of or allowed to celebrate new years on the 1st and was only given 1 day off a year on the 2nd. So the 2nd became a huge celebration with a parade and festival (think Madi Gras), alot of singing and dancing, live bands in the streets and alot of food.

In Norway, one of the most important days are "Grunnlovsdagen" (Constitution day) the 17th of May. People dress up in traditional bunads (folk dresses) and we have large parades with marching bands, and its mostly for kids. We eat "koldtbord" and drink Champaign for breakfast. Family and friends come together. Its also big day for the "russ". Russetid is the tradition for the people who graduates from high school. They dress in red or blue pants for a whole month until the 17th, do pranks, decorate and drive around in "russebil"/busses, and party a lot.
Thank you for showing this beautiful celebration of the Chinese New Year!

I live in israel- the most important day is Yom Kippur, but thats the day of attonement and boring and we dont eat anything :P BUT this weekend is a super fun holiday and its my favorite, and usually i dont share but i thought, hey, most of taylors viewers dont know this holiday exists.
Very devout people celebrate for the whole month of this holiday, called Purim.
theres a bunch of stuff we do but the most important is to have fun. literally, have fun and laugh. Get so drunk and so tired from partying and laughing that you cant even begin to explain the difference between good and evil. Another thing we do is have a huge feast and give gifts with foods from different categories to hand out to people.
Its also heavily encouraged to dress up so different that nobody would know who you are! some people even coordinate their costumes with their gifts to match a theme!!
The most important though is to just be happy, and the whole country is celebrating their butts off for no real reason

I´m Swedish and live in Sweden. My favorite holiday is Midsummer. It´s in the middle of the summer. It rains like 99% on Midsummer, typical Swedish summer haha. We eat almost the same food on all of our holidays. The food is different from family to family but Swedish meatballs is a must. We eat a lot of salmon, herring, sausages, meat, boiled potato's with dill. I always wear a flower crown, that´s an old tradition. Not everyone wears it but I love flowers so it´s a must for me. Many families go to a park where they have a big pole that looks like a cross but on each side there is two big rings. It´s covered with flowers and everyone is dancing around it. In Swedish it´s called Midsommarstång. You don´t have to celebrate Midsummer with your family, it can be with friends as well :)

I think that in Bulgaria the biggest holidays are Easter, Christmas eve, Christmas and New Year. It sounds a bit too much I know but that's how it is. At Easter we go to church and we light a candle for health. We dye eggs and we "fight" with them. You choose a dyed egg and another person hits it with his egg (first with the top part, them the bottom) and whoever's egg doesn't break at the end wins and he will be the most healthy and wealthy. Not sure if other countries doest that but is really fun for both adults and children. Everyone brings their dyed eggs, they are so pretty and colorful. For Christmas Eve and Christmas the traditions are mostly in the foods we eat - traditional Bulgarian banitsa (pastry filled with cheese and eggs), sarmi (cabbage rolls) , meats, soups, homemade breads and sweets. If you live in a small village group of boys and men come to your house and sing Bulgarian carols and you give them some food for thank you. At New Year we have again lots of food and banitsa, but this time we hide a coin wrapped with foil inside and whoever gets it will be the most wealthy and lucky for the next year once again. Also we put fortunes on top and you choose a piece and you find out what fortune will the new year bring - health, money, love, adventure etc.

We’re expecting and I can really tell he feels the need to get back in touch with his culture. Your video’s help me so much in understanding the customs/traditions and I hope we can pass this on to our unborn children and keep it ‘alive’ even though we’re overseas. Thank you and Tom!!

Happy New Year! I think in the US, the most important holiday we celebrate is Christmas. My husband and I are not religious at all, but Christmas traditions are what we were both raised with. We usually go to his Mom's for Xmas because he has a large family, so they do a giant dinner where everyone brings food and a gift for a secret Santa exchange. Then at our house with just the two of us, I usually do a pot roast with roasted potatoes, rice, dinner rolls, salad... Just standard Xmas stuff. And we of course do our own gifts between the two of us.

For the most part I feel like western New Year is pretty tame but in Latin America we have a bunch of traditions and the holiday is far more family-oriented than in North America, I think some of them come from Spain. The big one is eating 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight while you make 12 wishes (for each month of the year) but there's also a whole bunch of different traditions depending on the region. We always have dried wheat and a full table to signify abundance in the coming year. There are some who wear red underwear for love or yellow for money. But my personal favorite is when we run around the block with luggage to bring travel opportunities in our next year!

It was awesome to see Tom and Rosie in this video more! Thanks for such an informative video. Like you, my family is mixed, so we do a lot of Japanese and Korean new year's traditions as well as American. Though most of what you showed is different some are the same almost which is so interesting to me! Maybe they all have the same origin. Anyway, wishing you and family all the best in the new year.

I live in Chile and the most expected holiday is the national holidays, where we celebrate the Independence Day. Usually we have 3 days free of work (the 17, 18 and 19 of September) but, depending on the calendar, we can even have 5 days free. Families and friends get together and make BIG barbecues and lots of Chilean dishes and drinks. I'm not Chilean but I love these festivities, people are always happy and spring is just starting so it's the perfect weather 💕

@@amorgan78 in Germany and UK we have complete Shutdown of everything non-essential. Meaning no restaurants, no fitness studios, cafés, schools, preschools, event locations, just everything is closed except for certain offices/ work places (which is heavily debated as well). So people don´t really have a choice not to follow the rules. The only thing people do is gather in too large groups outside with no distance or masks. and they can get fined for it.
Voluntary Lockdown does not work long-term, I hope the US will follow Asia´s and Euope´s example soon! Good luck
