Choosing a lantern and scoring a special cookie at the mooncake shop..are a few of my happy memories when I was a kid.. we used normal candles back then. We lived more in the countryside and sat outside under the moonlight...munching water calthrop among all treats hahaha. I remember my father reading his newspaper in the bright moonlight.

Many of the younger generation won't even bother to make preparations to celebrate it (it would be just another occasion to party), much less make the unique delicacies. Add oil (figuratively) - way to go!
