Hello. I wanted to draw your attention when you say that the MX Keys mini keyboard does not have PgUp, PgDn, End, Home keys, this is not entirely true, although the solution is not entirely obvious. In order to use them, you need to press the key combination Fn + up arrow, Fn + down arrow, and so on.
Strongly agree that Logitech finally chose the normal 75% layout. I don't know why MX Keys Mini wanted to learn Apple Magic Keyboard with small arrow keys and no page up/down keys. It is not every design decision made by Apple is right and Logitech should have its own taste out of common sense.
1. If the mechanical one is more recent, doesn't mean it replaces the other. 2. You cant't say they target the same audience just because they have similar dimensions. One is very slim, minimal and silent, while the other is taller, more noisy and more geeky.
that's what I was thinking. The mechanical and the regular MX keys are two different keyboards. The MX Mechanical was not made to replace the MX Keys it was made for people who want a mechanical keyboard. Now if Logitech was getting rid of the MX keys and replacing it with the MX Mechanical then he would be right, but they aren't doing that.
I have both of these keyboards and after typing on the MX Mechanical Brown Switch, it blows the MX Keys away. The typing experience on the mechanical is so satisfyingover the chiclit style keys. I'm not concerned with how loud it is, but the brown switches proved to be perfect for me.
I have both, and I find the mechanical version (brown switches) pretty underwhelming. The MX Keys is about as good as a membrane keyboard gets, while the feel of the MX Mechanical is nothing special by mechanical-keyboard standards. If I had to pick one, I’d take the Keys.
@@mikegreen2214 Thank you, your response is helpful for me as I need to decide which one to choose. I am still hesitating, mostly because the MX Keys Mini has a smaller battery and doesn't include the Logi Bolt receiver
I really like this keyboard, and would have bought instantly. BUT, mx keys is still the quieter keyboard :( and honestly maybe I prefer the scissor switch a bit more, the mx mini has a bit more travel than the ones on magic keyboard too I feel like. If they did another mx keys mini refresh with this layout, that would be the perfect keyboard no brainer. Especially cuz this is meant mostly for office environments
The timing of this comparison couldn’t have been better. I planned on going out and getting one of these today. Your video solidifies my choice. I’m going with the mx keys. The price difference for one and as you stated, there are much better mechanical keyboards you can get. Simple to the point great review, thank you!
It fixed the mx key mini's arrow keys and it is a real 75% keyboard, I like it. 10 months battery life (without backlit), this one going to live on my desk.
IMPORTANT NOTE, the Bolt receiver DOES NOT work with most Logitech wireless products. For example, you couldn't use a product that uses a Unifying receiver with the Bolt receiver, it just won't work, it will be detected by Logi+ but the wireless keyboard or mouse won't actually work. It's the same with the Unifying receiver, you can't use products intended for the Bolt receiver with the Unifying receiver. I'm a bit torn. I'm looking at both keyboards today and the Mx Keys is $120 while the MX Mechanical is $180. I have a really hard time justifying paying $180 for a keyboard though, but I really love the feel of mechanical keyboards. Right now, I'm using a Logitech K800 wireless keyboard and i also really like the key feel of that but the overall plastic build quality just feels cheap. Another thing to consider for me is that the MX Mechanical uses the Bolt receiver, I already have a MX Master 3S mouse which also uses the bolt receiver so I could free up a USB port on my PC. I think I'm going to end up getting the MX Mechanical.
I was in the same boat. I tried the mx keys mini for almost a month before returning it. I just missed the Home, Page Up/Down, and Full sized arrows keys too much as a programmer. Just wish they had a white Windows variant.
I switched to this keyboard from a magic keyboard after i spilled some crap onto it. *i still was using my magic kb and mouse even though i switched to pc about 3 years ago* the difference is night and day. the only thing they have in common is the minimalist design. even holding them next to each other this seems like it was made for people to actually use this is a much better product all around. the feedback and the finger indentations in each key seem to drastically help me avoid making typos.
Doesn't the extra row of buttons actually get in the way when pressing enter? Also factoring that the cut the right shift in half and putting it in a weird position?
What are the better low profile, bluetooth mechanical keyboards in this price range? This is the best I've found, but since you said there are better ones, please let us know what they are. Thank you!
Great question! One of the top pre-builts that comes to mind would be the Keychron K2: www.keychron.com/products/keychron-k2-wireless-mechanical-keyboard For $69 you get a full aluminum frame, Bluetooth 5.1, and the option to use it wired. For a slim profile, the K3 is what you'd be after: www.keychron.com/products/keychron-k3-wireless-mechanical-keyboard?K3&K3 Although I've used them in the past, I don't currently have them any more. Maybe I'll pick up a few variations and do another comparison. :)
@@techbytes4988 Hey. I just picked up the MX Mechanical full size. I really love it. I also have the Keychron K2 V2. I think the Keychrons are excellent alternatives. They are much cheaper but I think the overall performance and quality of the MX is better. The Keychrons go to sleep and take a second or two to reconnect. Switching devices takes a combo key press and also takes a second or two longer than the MX. These are small differences and might not justify the price premium. Anyway, this was a nice comparison. Thanks
@@PhillipRPeck Thank you for the feedback! I actually went out and picked up a Keychron K2 V2 right after this video (video incoming 😉). Mine seems to have the ability to disable the auto-sleep after 10 seconds (press and hold a couple keys for 4 seconds), and the function layer lock could be turned off/on to make switching devices a single key press. For Mac it's an OS tweak, but for Windows there is another key combination that toggles it. I do agree though, the changing of devices takes an extra 2 - 3 seconds where as the MX series was almost instantaneous. Anyway, thanks again for the feedback! I should hopefully have the new video up in the next couple of days!
I don't think this is a successor to mx keys. Both keyboards probably will be for sale. Also if you need home, pg up and down buttons why you didn't get full size mx keys?
I bought the MX Keys Mini + MX master 3S - and I am replacing the mac-mini keyboard and mouse - and I am using FLOW to move from iMAC to Windows 11 laptop, keyboard 'follows' mouse. Therefore I do not need to change assignment (just iMAC and WinPC need to be in same LAN). So the coursor and keyboard controls follow from one to another. Regarding the keyboard, I am almost shocked - I own Lenovo P51 laptop too - and this keyboard has really good 1,5mm travel! This keyboard is great, this concave for fingers - woow. I never was so interested in such 'boring' thing as a keyboard, but ... wow. Mouse, this can in software disable 'rattling' of the wheels, and 'smooth scroll' is available then - great! In my country - mouse + keyboard + tax -> 225$.
I've actually been using a Keychron K3 wireless with their custom red linear switches for far longer than I thought I would (almost 3 months now). For ~$65, I'm incredibly impressed with the board, and a quick foam and tape mod made this board sound excellent for the price!
Thank you for your review I will just pick MX keys mini because my home, pg up , pu down key are customized by the apps "Karabiner" ( highly recommended) . But I dont like MX keys arrow key position though, I don't use finger to press control key , I just use palm to do it. With karabiner setup, you can make Vim mode on your mac globally. The key to use 60 keyboard I guess , is to create own switch mode, some using fn as hyper key. Great video!
What about time to awake from sleep? I have a keychron and it always takes a second or two to wake from sleep. Compared to my Apple magic keyboard which is always on, and can type instantly.
I had the small Arrow keys once, they are so terrible they made me give my notebook away to a friend and just buy another one with reasonable sized arrow keys, it was either this or killing myself so I decided for the first.
The Apple Magic Keyboard mini is about the same price as the MX Keys Mini, and here in Europe, the Logitech is typically about 20-30% more expensive. Not exactly an "insane premium"..!
Wish Mechanical had no useless buttons like Home, End etc. blocking the access to the Enter and Back keys. Also, there would be more air around the arrow keys. Looks like a soup of keys with no distinction between different key groups.
I am actually moving back to the MX keys because of this. If I hit Home one more time instead of back I might throw the keyboard :). I guess I am used to the furthest to the right being back and enter, not home, etc.
I think I'll pass and keep my $25 NPET keyboard. somehow you can get these very adequate gaming keyboards for that cheap. not super quiet but for the price you literally can't beat it. having proper mechanical keys and 1000Hz polling and full RGB if you want is very cool. and the stabs don't rattle at all. I prefer it to my corsair keyboard.
the MX keys has a big issue because many people complain about the backlicht dimming after 3 seconds. Is that issue resolved with the MX Mechanical? Can you set backlight to "always on" when wired?
I believe this is something that a simple software update can change. I am one of them who wants this to constantly stay on, hopefully it happens soon. As of now, it doesn’t exist

@Tech Bytes But yes, as a developer, I totally agree with you on the 75% layout, something I have searched for years now.
