This was a genuinely eye-opening video on every detail of difference between the two, and I love the MX Keys S. Also liked the preview of the logi options software. Excellent comparison!
Some commented about loud sound or horrendous sound? I’ve had mine several years. I think I got it when they first came out maybe they were quieter then, but I think mine is very quiet. In fact the quietest keyboard I’ve had. Actually, I hear nothing when I type. I love it!
Good video. More helpful than the last handful of mx keys review videos I watched this morning. And the youtuber antics and music also made it easier to watch. Thanks for putting that together.
I returned the old MX Keys because of that shitty lighting which was off real quick and no setting in the software. Need to buy the new one. Thanks for showing that so detailled!!!
I totally agree with your review : I defintively prefer the typping on (old) MX Keys vs (new) MX Keys S. I can't understand what they have done with this change... After a comparison side by side, I finally reselled my new MX Keys S with no regrets. It's a petty because I did the mouse upgrade from MX Master 3 to 3S (which is so much better), so I''m know having 2 USB recepters : Bolt (for MX Master 3S) + Unifying (for MX Keys). I questionned myself about that but I'm happy with this choice, the typping experience is much more important to having 2 USB receivers instead of one.
I have Just bought the older one, even for me there are not big differences, I think that you don't need speak detection or emoji in your office. Practically for me the older one is the same with the following.
So, how about backlit issues on keys s? Original one didn't remember light settings, which you needed to apply on every system boot. Also, you couldn't turn the light on permanently and move/proximity sensor wasn't very good. Have they fixed any of this crap in new version?
are the F-keys only available pressing the "FN" keys? If yes, it would be a real pain to use it for development like debugging because you need the F-keys all the time. Edit: I just found out that you can permanently enable the F-keys via a key combination 🤩
I prefer the MX Keys. It is the best one for me. The typing sounds, their design. In short, I like it. Previously, I bought the Keychron K4 V2 Red Switch and found this Keychron keyboard louder than the MX Keys.
The only thing keeping me from buying this keyboard is the sound. Both of them sound horrendous, but if I had to choose which one sounds better, I would say the black one.
I recently bought the MX Keys S keyboard/mouse combo. I've had a lot of crappy membrane keyboards over the years, a few really good ones and a Das Keyboard mechanical, but I really love this one. Feels like it's built like a tank, good keyboard travel (if you like mechanical keyboards you won't mind this at all) and decent backlighting. At 200 bucks it's pricey, but worth it in my opinion. It's the first one I've ever owned, so I don't have an MX Keys for comparison.
Hi there Jacob, After watching your video, I have finally decided to purchase the OG MX Keys Keyboard. I agree with what you say, the truth is that the differences are few and I think that the OG MX Keys model is more suited to my preferences and habits, since I use an old keyboard with really high keys. Thank you very much for the comparison, it has been very useful to me. 👍 A greeting from Spain.
The only real upgrade is the backlight setting, and it's software 😂 And they refuse to implement it in the old models although customer are asking for it since the release of the first MX keys. Ridiculous
@@ValerMS ok thanks for that info. I want to buy some keyboard for coding,so the choice are those two. Some people are saying that older version is better because of the lower keypads. And some of them are saying it is better to type on the S version. So I'm confused which one to buy 🤔🤷
I personally lile the mx keys simple, it feels more like the apple keyboard. The S version how I said is muchier… but can you still find old version? I am in Europe and cannot find…wanted to buy one more to have it just in case. Have the current one for 3 years now.
Nevertheless, you should try the both first, to see the typing experience. If you did not had previously a mx keys simple, I think you will love the S. Only if you have the older version you can see the difference

Good review, forgot to say new S uses Bolt receiver which is not compatible with the Unifying one.

This was great in helping me decide between the MX Keys vs. MX Keys S. I'm glad I watched your video first. Preciate you, sir
Glad I could help!
The sound made it clear to me. Great thing you included a quick typing sound difference. Still the black one for me.
I returned the old MX Keys because of that shitty lighting which was off real quick and no setting in the software. Need to buy the new one. Thanks for showing that so detailled!!!
Of course no problem. I can see that being annoying.
Bought a Mac Studio for Christmas and replacing my existing Logitech keyboard. The MX Keys standard does seem the better choice. Thanks for the video.
3:40 Thank you for that dude, It's almost what other people fail to show or don't include in their keyboard videos. Exatly that, how it sounds!!!
Appreciate it. I knew someone can benefit from this. Lol😂

Quality is amazing, deserves better popularity
Thank you for the kind words 🎉. They say consistency is key.

Nice overview, thanks! My MX Keys must be even older as the F-keys differ from your black keyboard!

Thanks for the detailed and honest opinion!!! I now decided not to buy the MX Key S (owning a MX Key currently).
The actual key size and interchangability would have made sense

Great video, helped me to choose MX Keys S keyboard/mouse combo
Thank you for a plausible and unbiased review!
Thank you for watching
I just got the newer one in Black and a how to set up video might be nice. I looked for both but at Best Buy they only had the one MX Keys S
Great video mate. Answered all questions I had and more. Cheers
Productivity DUDE! Had me dyin lmao

Nice video! Already have my keys, looks like no upgrades required this time.
No upgrades required

Very well done video with clear comparison of pros and cons
Thank you for the words
Does the selected keyboard button LED stay on?

They’re the same
Great job, you helped me make my choice!!!

how about the battery endurance?
Good video. Thanks
Thanks for watching.
watching this I thought I needed glasses.. but it was just everything out of focus 90% of the time.
Very nice video, but please do something with the mic!
What’s wrong with the mic? Maybe your speakers?
@@JacobGagoOfficial actually it was, now played it on the Mac and there is no crackling noise anymore
Best keyboard for programmers
Which one are you reffering too?
You don’t need to use the wireless dongle
Which mouse models can be unified by the USB bolt?
Both. I'm doing so right now with the older models.
is the old version of the mx keyboard compatible with the logibolt usb receiver?
are you typing the same words sir?
What do you mean?
They made it silver to match with Apple silver products, probably the Mac Studio tbh
The only real upgrade is the backlight setting, and it's software 😂 And they refuse to implement it in the old models although customer are asking for it since the release of the first MX keys. Ridiculous
Great review tks

MX keys simple is better 1000%
You mean non-S version ? Lower keys are better for typing ?
Yes, the older version is much better, new one I do not know but is mushy or something
