    Shane, it means that will work with HomeKey, can you please make a video of this, confirming that is working with Apple HomeKey? Recently Apple said HomeKey support for Matter.

    It's nice to see Matter finally start to get a hoot hold. HOpefully the CSA and the various platforms can get the kinks worked out in short order and maybe we'll finally get that seamless Matter smart home experience we were promised. Good stuff indeed!

    Switchbot is on a roll. Now I just need them to make a HomeKit compatible light switch that has a toggle switch instead of a rocker or button. Maybe I’m just missing them but I’ve yet to see a HomeKit toggle light switch 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @MikeFParkin
      @MikeFParkin ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Have you considered something like an Aqara T1 Switch Module? It would just go behind your existing toggle switch, keeping the same switch face plate you already have while making it smart (with native HomeKit support). They are reasonably priced and super easy to install.

    • @edge35
      @edge35 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MikeFParkin I had not..will check it out! At this point I figured I would wait until one of the non HomeKit toggle switches adds Matter support. However, I’ll look into that Aqara and maybe go that route.
      Just strikes me as odd that nobody seems to already make one.

    • @ShaneCreates

      Matter support came via recent updates, so it's likely that you need to update firmware on the lock or the app. You will need:
      App Version:7.3 or above
      Hub 2 Firmware Version:10-08 or above
      Lock Firmware Version:6.5 or above

  • @matssernfalt

    You missed to test one thing: It is possible to lock the door even when the door is wide open! That is only a missed software feature, all hardware needed already exists. As it is now you can unlock for someone remotely and then lock again but with the door open! Or checking that all doors are locked from bed but missing that one door is left open. Otherwise, I like the lock and would by more if they could fix this bug.

    This is one looking quite terrible. Another flaw is that it needs switchbot hub to work with matter and homekit. With yale linus work of hub is by apple tv or homepod so less stuff at home.

    Hey Shane,
    One related question and one unrelated question.
    Do you know of any locks that are available or coming soon that will work on a sliding glass patio door? I'm going to look at a house to possibly buy in the next week, and from what I can see, it uses a patio door as the front door. Not something I love, but everything else about the place seems perfect so I would put up with it at least for a few years. But I really really want to have a smart lock at my next place so hoping there's something out there!
    Now an unrelated question. I have an old iPad Air 2 that I stopped using because it no longer updates. How much of a risk is it to use that for a few days just to watch some TH-cam videos? I just got new multifocal glasses (yes, I'm that old lol) and I love them for everything except the laptop. I just can't seem to get it at the right distance and angle to see it. So I want to check if a smaller iPad screen will be much easier for me, and if it is I'll buy a new one. If it isn't any easier, then I might as well keep trying to figure it out with the laptop.

    • @JakeSDN
      @JakeSDN ปีที่แล้ว

      To answer your iPad question, any risk requires your help. In other words, most hacks on Apple devices require you take several steps to make it happen. As long as you are either using the (Official) TH-cam app or the TH-cam website you should have no issues. There might be some security updates, Apple sometimes updates older hardware if the issue is bad enough.

    • @moniquem783
      @moniquem783 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JakeSDN fabulous! Thank you!! I will stay within the TH-cam app. Much appreciated 😊

    @DaCyberman ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you think this would work on a sliding door?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure... it's possible if it has a thumb turn similar to a deadbolt. And as long as there is enough space to place the SwitchBot on the door.

    • @DaCyberman
      @DaCyberman ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShaneCreates It's got a thumb turn that would most likely be compatible but I don't think there would be enough clearance with how the handle it designed.

  • @nicholas790
    @nicholas790 ปีที่แล้ว

    No wire hangers!...or hubs! It's also a pretty ugly design-miss, I wouldn't have it in my home on design criteria alone.

    Dear friend,
    I have the switchbot lock with the first-generation hub.
    I consider replacing the hub to the second generation Hub2 for adding my switchbot lock support to the apple home support.
    Also, I interested buying Aqara G4 Doorbell (which is also support the Apple home)
    My question is if I can combine both products to work together ?
    I mean, the moment someone rings the Aqara G4 Doorbell, I will be able to get notification from the apple home app, watch the G4 camera & on the same Apple screen app to open the switchbot lock for opening the door ?
    I watched the Aqara promotional video and saw that there is an option on both Aqara products (Aqara lock u200 & Aqara G4 Doorbell).
    Here's the Aqara promotional video, at the 16-second mark
    th-cam.com/video/lWadY9hohJA/w-d-xo.html
    I'll be glad if know what you think about my idea 😊
