    Shane, thanks for the video. This is a great alternative for my parents front door. They do not want to change their original locks and this is a great addition for me to keep an eye on their front door.

    We need something like this that can be placed over the turnkey knob that’s on back patio sliding doors.
    Nobody makes smart locks for sliding patio doors, and it’s a huge oversight.

    It's 2024, companies need to put more into the design/layout! I can't see consumers loving the bulky brick look. 😑

    Holy crap that thing is HUGE!!!!!!! I've had the August smart lock for a few years and it's been amazing! It's MUCH sleeker than this jalopy. Works with my Apple Home Kit too.

    Could you just use a generic NFC ‘sticker’ instead? That could give you a lot of flexible options like putting on the wallet if so

    Did you put the Switchbot Lock Pro on a Level Lock?

  • @Dr_Cole

    I love their approach with allowing both disposable and rechargeable batteries, and that you can charge one side while using the other side for the rechargeable batteries. I also agree that the color and even the packaging are great looking. My existing products from SwitchBot look a bit too plastic..y

    Any other HomeKit door locks that support home key that are black? Hoping you had some good recommendations. Looking for my new house.

      Yale Assure 2 plus. I have the Assure 2 on one of my locks and and it works great. Also Aqara U100 is dark coloured. Might suit your needs

    • @ShaneCreates

      Schlage Encode Plus, Aqara and Yale all make black locks with HomeKey support.

    • @timothymason5545

      I was thinking Yale but I heard the keypad isn’t responsive. Any issues you heard of? Thanks everyone for help. I need to get subscribed to come to the discord.

      @@timothymason5545 To be honest if I was using HomeKey, the keypad would just be a backup. Yes it can be a bit hit or miss, but it hasn’t cause me any frustration in the 2ish years I’ve been using it. With HomeKey support I imagine that would disappear completely

    Can the keypad be used for other things? Or is the only option to pair directly to a lock? Was thinking it might be cool to use to open the garage door that has a smart controller installed.

  • @CarlRyds

    Can you use an NFC card without having the Keypad? By holding it against the outside of the door

    • @ShaneCreates

      No. Remember, there is no hardware on the outside of the door. So you need the keypad in order to read the nfc card.

    • @CarlRyds

      @@ShaneCreates Fair enough, I was thinking it might read it through the door. But actually thinking about it, that doesn’t make much sense 😂

    Can I do a kind of auto-lock/auto-unlock via HomeKit? Lock when Home detects everyone have left the home. Unlock when the first person arrives back. Lock again when motion is detected in the home? I do some of this with lights which, of course, are less security focused. I really like some of auto-lock/unlock I get with my car and would love if my front door would do something similar.

    Shane… long time subscriber and I look forward to ALL of your videos. Thank you 🙏🏻 But did you just add a Switchbot Lock Pro to a Level Lock??

    • @jaredmorse9957

      Also very interested in your experience with the Level lock. Thanks

    • @ShaneCreates

      haha good eye! I disabled the Level lock (without removing it) for my initial testing and installation of the SB Lock Pro. There are many smart locks to use and test, but only a few doors to do it with! 😄 Thanks for watching and supporting the channel, btw!
      The Level Lock has been okay. Nice that it's completely hidden, but It's very slow compared to my other HomeKit smart locks.

      I see that Shane was not concerned about where the red dot lined up lol. I just got mine and I made sure the red dot was at the top for unlock and on the left for lock.

      @RiceEater483 haha yea fortunately you can adjust where the red dot lines up. After the initial installation I did go back and adjust it so it’s on the top like you mentioned.

    Hi! I watch your videos occasionally, tell me, do you have your entire house built with Home Kit? How do you deal with more difficult automations?

    • @ShaneCreates

      Yep, whole house works in HomeKit. For more advanced automations I can usually use either scripting (convert to shortcut) or 3rd party HomeKit apps like Controller for HomeKit or the Eve app. I have recently been using Homey Pro as well, and have started moving some advanced automations to Homey.

    • @Damian-oo9oh

      @@ShaneCreates I have Homey Pro, but it bothers me a bit that I can't view the camera online, only screenshots. I have a video intercom from Aqara and it would be a shame to exchange it for something else

    It's disappointing to see paid sponsorships dominate review channels. Even if it's not explicitly labeled as a review, dedicating an entire video to discussing a product essentially endorses it, regardless of whether the commentary is positive or negative. After all, there's no such thing as bad publicity. While receiving products for free is one matter, paid showcases or reviews cross a line that viewers should approach with caution and not put on a pedestal. Yet, society often tends to promote, endorse, and praise individuals even when their actions are questionable.

    I’d be really interested in this if it didn’t also need a hub or a dedicated app.
    Smart home stuff can already be finicky from time to time. Last thing I need is a hub to worry about too.

  • @sundager8735

    Aqara U100 better lock better features and cheaper. You don’t have to buy all the extra stuff and when the U200 comes out, I’d be curious about that

    @shanecreates question for you - can the keypad be used without the lock (say to control other accessories via HomeKit automations? I have switchbot devices and hubs. Been looking for a keypad to control various items that aren’t just locks. HomeKit scene automation is ideal.

    A bit confused how this new design will work with the protruding vertical handle locks.... the same as the ones you have with the lock 1.
    The backplate just seems completely incompatible with anything other than a flat door replacing a deadbolt.
    Eurocylinders or thumb turn locks that cant be removed in this way seem not catered for? A backwards step? is this correct?

    • @ShaneCreates

      It will work with EU cylinder locks as well. It attaches a little differently, and probably fiipped upside down compared to the deadbolt locks. Check out their website linked in the description. They show a few examples of this and also have a chart showing compatibility for different style locks.

    • @ShaneCreates

      Seemed like the biggest issue people complained about on the previous lock was the sticky pad not remaining secure over time. This one certainly fixes that.

  • @RiceEater483

    I actually kind of like the design although I understand that a lot of people will be put off by the bulky brick design. I love all the unlock options and admittedly If it didn't have that then I probably would have gone with something that I thought looked nicer even though I think this one looks fine.
    But on its own I honestly don't think it's that bad.

  • @hosemarian

    Weak points: 1. its super large comparing to other brands. 2. Its louder than other smart locks. 3. in 2024 still needing hub to work remotely via homekit etc is lame (with new linus l2 its build in). 4. Also in other brands you got battery pack included, so no extra spendings.

  • @MichaelTavares

    Needing its own hub and not allowing home key are major downsides

    • @ShaneCreates

      As stated, HomeKey is not a supported feature through Matter currently. That's a Matter limitation, not SwitchBot. Hopefully we'll see a big Matter update that will support this type of functionality in the near future.
