- Should you delete and tune your diesel truck for the benefits out there? Are they worth the potential risk and effects of the future?
Here are just a few of the things I considered before deleting and tuning my Cummins, some of which I hope help you!

I'm in Canada... so...1200 bucks for about 5 hours of diagnostics and def injector replacement. Check engine light comes on 2 days later again. SCR pipe....that 4 grand plus labour. Complete delete...2k. No brainer for me. Fed up already.
My question to you is, if i delete everything will i still have the chance of my 2020 Ram 2500 going into Limp mode.... thanks in advance
They do NOT cut down on emmisions. Here me out. 1 your adding more chemicals to the exhaust (DEF) 2 your destroying the environment with all the plastic jugs that you buy the fluid in and also it takes fossil fuels to make those plastic products. 3 when the filter collects enough soot it then adds diesel fuel to burn it and the it just dumps out the exhaust in an ash form and it hits the ground and then what happens.??? It then rains washes the burnt ash away and then the water evaporates and where does it go. Up in the clouds. So essentially your putting it in the atmosphere with added chemicals and you get shitty fuel mileage so your burning more fuel with emmisions. Woooooooo man saving the environment...
Talked to multiple diesel mechanics. All said the same thing 95% of the trucks they work on are because of the emissions system. Costs more to repair emissions systems than to delete.
Yes! You are so right. I’m going say 98%. I’m a diesel technician.
Northwest Missouri here. One of out local diesel performance shops quit selling delete items and don't mess with it anymore. They told me the EPA had been dropping hints to the manufacturers that they were paying attention to what's going on. They also said Colorado was one of the states that were placing decibel meters on the interstates to listen to exhausts for emissions checks.

Great info. Just bought a 2018 Duramax last week not knowing about the recent EPA crack down. Wish I had known because we’re all SOL now. Thankfully, my slightly older 1968 deuce and a half runs on friggin used motor and she’s very grandfathered in.
Who did your tunes. I ordered mine from PPEI and unfortunately they don’t delete emissions. Wasted $1200

When I delete my EGR and delete my DEF on 2018 Cummins with a straight pipe do I have to install a TUNER ?

@@lilb5408 if you dont your trucks stock ECM will throw codes and put the truck into limp mode. Its going to think something is wrong with the truck. Need a tuner to basically tell the ECM those things aren’t there anymore. But obviously for off-road use only

Other than the fear game of warranty violations, delete the BS off the truck if you can. Its worth the money. Plus your truck will run better and last longer.
My crew cab is exactly like urs color and all except it's a hemi engine but the stance due to the lift spacers and wheels is the same I watched ur video on the install very helpful. Thanks for ur input on TH-cam
There are no CONs
1. Don’t bother going to California most states like mine a vehicle over 10,000lbs gvw there is no emission .. you just have to have a 3500 not a 2500.
2. once warranty is done do the delete
3. Who cares resale sell it to a private individual not a dealer who’s going to pay less.
Just deleted my 2018 Ram 2500 6.7 Cummins. Best decision I could’ve made.
I have friends who are having very expensive brake downs due the emissions. If you plan to keep you truck a long time you WILL have $$$$ repairs due to the emissions if you don’t delete it.
If you want to delete it, do it now. Parts are getting harder and harder to get thanks to Uncle Sam.

2012 you don't have the DEF! I bought the 2011 for that reason and made it easier on myself deleting it! lol
i do believe it's a minimum of a 5,000 off of trade in value if its been deleted

I bought a used 2011 f250 from a Ford dealership, I bought a 2 year warranty that covers my AC Engine & Transmission but not my Emissions stuff…. Do you recommend doing the delete since the emissions is not covered?
Going to the dealership in a few hours to verify check engine light is on for scr issues. This will be the 4th scr for this truck and it has 80,000 miles. The last scr was put on 4 weeks ago and if I have to pay for a new scr I am looking at $1,500.00 in repairs. If I delete I pay the same amount one time instead of every year buying a new scr.
So 1500 includes the tuning/programming?

If you are daily driving to work, etc and not pulling loads over long distances...how far or long do you need to drive for the truck to, "clean" the filter(s)?
Bradford Rodgers it depends, your truck will register when they need cleaning, but what happens is your truck will heat up to a certain degree to burn out all of the build up in the filter. So it depends on how much build up and how quick your truck is able to burn it off. Probably a few miles of driving while at the right temperature? It can also clean it at idle and you’ll know when it happens!

No regrets, honestly 2500 is plenty for me. However, I'd love to own a 3500 one day! No wrong answer!
That’s why you buy a ford if your gonna daily,drive a diesel, I switch to ford in 2017 and with 67k miles of daily driving I’ve had zero issues and not deleted, why, ford is the only manufacturer that has OCR, or operator command regen, it allows the owner to perform a manual regen while stationary, yep, a static regen, if you miss a regen or don’t complete a driving regen and your DPF reaches 120% saturation the the truck will ask you if you’d like to perform an OCR, takes 30 minutes anywhere you are while in park, so you don’t have to drive and put another 30-45 miles on your truck just to do a regen, how awesome is that, keeps you outta the shop for static regens and $600 just for a shop to hook up a computer and take 25-40 minutes to do

I live in Vegas and there's emissions inspections, but there are ways to get around it if you're good with fabrication and want to put the work in. It's definitely a pain in the butt. Your truck will pass smog being straight piped, all they do is visual inspection to see if the components are on it. Also, you just have to use your tuner sparingly so you're not rolling coal everywhere.
I'm taking a trip to California though at the end of the month though and they're ridiculous as we all know so wish me luck!! lol

Good honest video, well done sir. Also just an FYI, there are no weigh stations in California for any pickup trucks, even commercial pickups. None. So those stories you heard are BS or they did not get you the whole story.
rsg1963 appreciate the support as always! Yeah, I heard that story from a guy at Ram while having my alignment done. It made sense, but good to know there must’ve been more to the story!
That's not exactly true when it comes to commercial use. The law states any truck used for commercial purposes and has a GVWR over 11,500 pounds or anything other than a stock bed must pull into the scales. I know the scales say no pickups, but going by the actual law some can get into trouble for not weighing. The one person I know that actually got a ticket for the delete in California, was using his truck for commercial use and he got a $2500 ticket and was told not to come back until the truck was stock again. I do this for a living my 14 ram 2500 has 503,000 miles on it, but unfortunately I've had some major repairs hit all at once, so I'm upgrading to a 2018.
Lucas McCain I think that’s what was meant by these guys who told me their stories. Hotshot drivers, or just farm guys hauling cattle.

You can modify your truck even if you’re still under warranty ONLY if you know the service writer at the dealer you’re taking your truck to. In turn him and the mechanic can split the $$ if you know what I mean.... lol

How strong is the smell after doing a straight pipe and delect? I heard the smell can be a little annoying.
It’s certainly noticeable! Never bothered me though..

I don't think a reputable dealer would even buy a deleted truck cause they can't legally sell it in the condition it's in.

They can! Usually, if they are unable to sell it due to emissions, they have other partners in states that do not require any emissions.
Just bought a 2013 Ram from a dealership here in Vero Beach last week. He told me they could definitely sell deleted vehicles. Liberals haven't ruined Florida yet.

Shayn Yoe significantly! You can certainly smell the exhaust when outside the truck.
In an attempt to get the EPA to turn back the policy changes from last spring there were a couple garages that got together and proved you can tune a truck to pass emissions tests in Cali with no DPF and EGR...but obv it fell on deaf ears
What if you set it all aside and put it back on before trading it in?

Anyone know where I can delete a 2019 ram
My nephew was in Houston, TX and changed lanes without using his signal and a cop pulled him over and took a dipstick and tested to see if he had fluid in his DEF tank. It was a female cop and because his 2014 GMC Denali sits up so high I guess she couldn't see or didn't know if it was deleted.
mickyfingaz Wow! How fortunate! I’ve heard many stories of people getting busted after simple traffic stops.. luckily, my tank still has DEF in it but my gauge reads empty.

did you have to reset the ECU after the delets? Do the deletes trigger any dash lights?

PARDS2 SOMETIMES unplugging the EGR will, but the tunes should take care of any dash lights. I didn’t have to mess with the ECU other than using the included unlock cable provided by the EZ Lynk

Can you just install a delete kit without straight piping? Or do you have to straight pipe after you install a delete kit?
Nitch Valichnac when it comes to tuning/straight pipe, you cannot do one without the other. On the other hand, you can disable the EGR system without tuning or straight piping. You simply have to unplug the valve which sits under the hood on the drivers side. You may receive a check engine light until you tune your truck, but you’ll still be good to go 👍🏻
@@moparvelousorbust7085 with the minimaxx tuner you can install the tune without deleting anything. I did it for about a month before straight piping my truck. But just do it all at once so you don't go through the hassle of updating the tune. lol
@@moparvelousorbust7085 You should not simply unplug the EGR valve, this will cause certain cylinders to overheat among other issues. Remove the EGR valve/cooler, and install a pass-through block off that allows coolant to flow across the entire engine with the absence of the EGR cooler.
Delete the EGR completely or leave it alone!
Diesel mileage
Out in Calie, I have never had any issues with cops busting deleted trucks. The just don’t don’t give a crap, don’t know the difference, don’t have time to deal with it. Don’t roll coal all over the place, don’t run super loud ass exhaust setup, don’t be an a-hole.
But you do need to return to stock to pass inspection every 2 years. Do the minimal deletes.

The warranty that ram offers will not cover my clutch as its considered a wear item the factory emissions warranty runs out at 36k miles im at 72k ive never had issues but my daily drive is 30mins to 1.5 hours each way depending on where the site is

When I first bought my '12 Ram, which had 192k miles on it, I personally cleaned the entire EGR system. It is beyond amazing how fast everything gets back to being dirty and clogged. I went from an H&S Mini to now an EFILive. It's hard to find the H&S files, I used to host them on my Google Drive, but honestly, the EFILive made such a more improved tune that I wouldn't go back. The H&S was able to fine tune things like door bells, running lights, seat belt chimes, and tire size, and the EFILive can't (on the fly), but I can live with that. My mileage went up, idling was better, no regens, and no more cleaning the EGR system.
I stay out of the commie states anyways and my home state doesnt check emissions on diesel trucks like on passenger cars.
Can’t wait pushing 60,000k on original dpf system. Emissions warranty is done at 60,000k time to delete delete. Waiting for this last tank of dpf to go. Should I run the dpf run empty?
Greg you asked a great question, and I will address it further in another video, along with a few other things!
I would always keep some DEF in its tank, even if your truck is deleted. Highway patrol can always be jerks and prob the tank to make sure you have adequate fluid. So from a glance, your gauge will be disabled, but at least you won’t get fined or ticketed for running an empty tank. This is a “worst case” scenario, but it’s something to think about! I have about a third of a tank in mine still.
Damn do they actually check? I heard some tunes also have it to where the gauge reads full.
