First time I saw an actual strat was watching Tommy and Phil Emanuel give a masterclass in Lombardo’s Music Fivedock in Sydney Australia. Phil was playing it. That would have been in 1979 or 1980. Phil was an excellent guitarist too.
Looking great Patrick! You're making this stuff look easy. I have a CAR tele that I really love the color. I've never tried shooting a candy color I think it can be very challenging. I have sprayed metal flake and that was fun. The little tube for drilling holes is a great hack. I don't know where I first saw it but it works wonderfully. I had a bunch of Strats going at one time so I made a platform to route the round overs. I used the body off cuts nailed to a plywood base to support the router all around the body so the router can't tip. Also made a jig to hold the body at the right angle to quickly cut the arm and tummy contours on the bandsaw.
I got my first strat in 82. All black with rosewood fb... MIJ. I did not play another type of guitar for 30 years. I love all ginds of guitars and own several, but the strat, as you say is an incredible work of art and unparalled design. Best selling guitar for 50 years an still the undisputed champ!
It's looking good and coming along nicely. With that rosewood fingerboard, I'd love to see the body sea foam green. I think a white/cream pearloid pickguard or maybe even a tortoiseshell would look nice.
An observation Brother, audio got me this time. Wearing nice cans Kove {thanks Alex Steele}, level of your voice clear {and I believe I pulled something getting the level down, that I haven't felt for 35 years} and the Music bed {lovely song, what I heard, as they flew cross the room} started. I'll stop {rambling} please check levels/or warn headphone folks.
I’m old enough to have become familiar with the Fender line as a preteen, probably 1965. At that time, I thought Jazzmasters and Jaguars were the coolest looking, with Strats and Teles trailing far behind. Whatever color you pick, I hope on this or some future build you pick out a metallic to illustrate the challenges they present. - Paul
Really nice and crisp work! I’m glad to see how well the alder is machining for you, the one and only time I used alder was a disaster. I encountered a nasty void once I cut the body shape. I’ve been gun shy about using alder ever since 😬
Hi, man, I have Fender catalogue from 1970 (oh, I was so young then!) and for Strat there are those colours available: 500 - Sunburst, 501 - Blond, 502 - Lake Placid blue, 503 - Sonic blue, 504 - Firemist gold, 505 - Olympic white, 506 - Black, 507 - Ocean turquoise, 508 - Firemist silver, 509 - Candy apple red. Every hue has some charm, but I vote for the black one. Thumbs up! Jan
I’ve just discovered the channel. I’ll enjoy watching your videos. If I may be so bold, could I suggest candy apple red with EMG pickups (because Gilmour)? That’s what I would do anyway. I’m a big Strat fan also.
I replaced the cheap PCB type 5 way in one of my guitars a few years ago, I went for the oak/grigsby version i think, and I also didn't get a knob. It wasn't expensive, but I understand your feeling it was a bit cheap of the supplier. As for the colour, I'm a Gilmour fan so either all black with white plastics (black on the bridge pickup for the rosewood FB era look) or candy apple red. or if you're feeling crazy, go for a hydro-dipped finish.
First start awareness would be Mark Knopfler. I haven't moved on much really still my favorite player. But I play telecasters! YELLOW. Like proper YELLOW.
Likewise when Hendrix died I. 1970 I wanted a guitar in tribute however all I could afford in the second hand shop was a Wandre Rock Oval. Played like shit but looked great. Shame I don’t have it still but now I’m about to make my own Strat too.
What was the name of the supplier you mention again please Pat. I can't quite catch it. If anyone knows of good places to get timber near Bedford please comment! I'm struggling.

I had to google that but they can play a bit!!!

I have a CAR strat that I really love and used to have a Jag in the same colour, not sure I'd want to spray one though!!

Sorry! was it the change from voice to music??
Looking fantabulous.
Cheers :)

Great job
Cheers :)

That's really interesting, I have a candy apple red MIJ strat and I love that thing.
Sky Blue looks good.
It would indeed!

Never used one of those switches but heard good things. I already have a CAR strat so not sure I'd want another.

As you might have noticed, I'm a fan ofa tele myself. Olga out of the toy dolls has played the same yellow tele for years so I approve.
🤟👍
Thanks :)

I had to google the Wandre Rock Oval, have you seen the prices!!! You could get a very nice strat if you traded one now. Good luck with the build.
Nice build. Could you please tell me what templates you are using. Thanks
Cheers, the templates are from Crimson guitars and so far they have been very good.
That's a beautiful bit of rosewood. Are you going to go with a vintage spec slab board or a radius veneer?
It will be a slab, I don't like the way the side dots work on a veneer board.
Blue to reddish purple gradient or burst
Ooh, that would be different.
Is the jack plug cover not going to cover that tiny dent Patrick?
Yes, I'm just being a bit sad about it!!
Or rebate the plug cover in so it is flush and that will take the dent out.
Maybe Olympic white?
That would be nice...
Sherwood green or lake placid blue?
Both great choices.

It was feelgoodwood on ebay. Sorry don't know anyone down your neck of the woods. See what I did there?!

What size is the milling accessory?
Thanks!
I think you can’t beat a standard sunburst on a strat. My second favourite white
I love a sunburst (as you might know) but think it's time for something a bit different.
The music sounds strangely like a Bass 6
It wan't me, honest!!
Dick Dale gold sparkle....
Love a bit of DD!!
Efficient!
Cheers.
There is only one color for a Red stratocaster.
Brilliant, love it :)
