you use acceton for glueing the binding ( with a seringe ) how come the binding "melts" and the seringe dont melt?
Always informative. How thick is the piece of maple you started with for the neck?
ive seen people paint the tv yellow color where the spray the white primer, then apply the tinted grain filler than lightly apply the yellow and then ive seen it done your way. which way do you think would be better? im about to paint my own tv yellow LP JR and would love some insite
Like this comment if you want Phil to make an acoustic guitar.
Sorry for the stupid question, but is this neck tenon a short or long tenon? thank you.
I wouldn't lose any sleep over it!
Hope you feel better very soon. Excellent videos nevertheless!
Looks fantastic!
looking good. hope you're over the cold soon.
Acurate expérience , great touch!
Great build, nice cozy shop space
Gotta love a neck carve. Nice.
Looks great and happy Thanksgiving
Talented craftsman. I say that with envy. 😊👍
Looks awesome.
Another good video but have you noticed that the audio is usually out of sync on the working shots? The sound seems to follow several frames behind the video. When you talk directly to the camera, it looks ok.
Mmmm, I was just two during. I be always admired how lol you both sharpen and look after lol of your edges, be they chisels or saws. Ou are a master of homing the finest of cuts. I dream of aa set of water stones and was wondering if you had these during your first build Cheers Carl from. Australia
Glad I’m not the only one who can’t deal with jigsaws. Truly the Ford Fiesta of power tools
To me, the spokeshave looks very well suited to this task. Easier than the shinto rasp maybe? Never shaped a neck blank myself so just wondering.
I've watched you lots of neck carves now and have always wanted to ask, how do you avoid the edge of the finished fret board or binding? Just skill and care? Coming along beautifully as always, love your work. Cheers.
Could watch this all day long. Beautiful work.
I’ve always wondered how that was done. Thanks.
Great explanation and demonstration!
Nice work it looks great ,
Love the way it has been filmed!
I was going to suggest asymmetric neck profile just for fun of it and to see how it's done, but after watching this, it seems to be quite a no-brainer - my guess is that, instead of halving, cuts would be thirds or something like that.
Looks great! Your process works very well.
Looking great!
Hi! I love your work, the whole binding is just superb. I was wondering, could you share the link for that goniometer thing you have there? I was looking for something similar but all I can find around is just trash
Great videos! I'm just looking at my 335, and it seems that the bindings were applied first, and then the frets were inserted. This allows the frets to sit both on top of the fretboard and bindings, so there's no need to shape the bindings to the nibs.
Great instructional content. Thanks for your generosity.
In all truth, your strings will not impact on the awkward area, so plan A still remains an option.
Look great❤❤
Thank you.
The headstock is anything but 'back to basics'. Just my advice but I think you should turn it into firewood, it's pretty bloody ugly mate.
Lol, each to their own and all that :)
Love the cut out around the truss rod adjustment wheel. It looks superb, and is extremely practical. Guitar manufacturers please take note!
I love this type of trussrod, easy to adjust, no ugly hole on the headstock and keeps all the material in the vulnerable area of the neck.
Just realized it has been a couple of videos without background music. I really like them with no music. Head stock transition on the bass string side looks really good now.
I have moved away from the music, not sure what it adds other than time in the edit (no my favourite part of the process).
I thought that transition to the headstock was fine before, but you've shown your judgement there to be excellent. Super classy looking solution!
Thanks, I'm somewhat happy with it.
Well solved. Looks beautiful!
Cheers buddy.
Have you ever considered putting in a zero fret? I haven't watched the last few builds, so forgive me if you've done that recently. ✌️🇦🇺
No groundwire before installing the bushings? Seems like taking them in and out might risk wallering out the holes.
What did you allow your tolerance to be when leveling the guitar? I'm building the same guitar and using a lot your instructions to do it. I've built the jig but getting the guitar perfectly level is nearly impossible. I figure that with the jig on drawer slides that you could be a millimeter off and still potentially be OK since the router would just rise or lower on he slides as needed all while routing to the same depth.
Why not make the neck and body out of one piece of wood? Is it an aesthetic thing or does the laminated piece provide some other benefit?
A bit of both really, the laminations look good but also add a ton of stability to the neck.
@@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams ok, makes sense. I wonder what effect (if any) the volume /proportion of glue has on tone? Have you ever experimented with this? Does a heavily laminated piece of wood resonate better/worse/differrnt than a solid piece of wood?
@@spiceweasel945 I haven't tried that but I feel it would be hard to understand given the nature of wood. In this particular case it sounded great.
It's looking fantastic! I really like the way it looks with the maple emerging from under the fretboard as is. Plus to move the tuners out would make the strings skewed a little sideways.
Wonderful!!!!! I can finally get back to regular viewing pleasure and keep up since i don't have to travel for my job anymore.... Keep up the badass work Pat
Looking good Pat. I wouldn't change the profile of the headstock. I would roll the edge over a little more than normal than on the rest of the headstock.
That is one gorgeous looking neck!
Détails are really time consuming. But at the end it looks beautiful!
I wasn't sure about the binding, especially at the nut... but it really looks great! Love watching how you invent solutions. Looking forward to the carve! Thanks.
Looks great good job.
Beautiful binding job Patrick, looks outstanding!
