The great thing about being so occupied starting my channel is, I haven’t had time to watch videos. Now I can binge watch this segment. Great video😎🤙
It’s looking so nice already. We are enjoying this build!
I don't understand why people tape those wrapped truss rods off, I can understand taping off the open ones while spreading glue but taking it off before gluing.
I do it mainly to keep the glue out of the adjuster cavity as much as anything, binding up the adjuster of not being able to get it to seat properly would be a pain.
Now Pat. Be honest. Did you have that many clamps when you built your first guitar?
Good point, I actually didn't. I built a jig to clamp fretboards. However my first build was a one piece neck with a home built one way truss rod!!
Thanks again for the shout out. I've actually trying to picture the running all the way through. I think I've seen it like that.
Where do people buy the tele’s hardware from?
Im going to build my first neck with binding, is there any reason I should not mitre the binding at the bottom of the fretboard?
Hi tannk's for this video , I try to find Block Inlay for 335 where can I find it please ?
Eh…, didn’t you forget to take the tape off the trussrod before you put the fretboard on?
Tape in. Tape out. The argument rages on!
but up to nut, reason being is because it a clean square stop .. you'll see when you get there, plus making the nut is extra hard when you're making it fit in a box, the normal or standard way as in if you stop the binding at the nut when you fashion the nut you can let both ends run wild then mark and sand accordingly, then get a good finger feel before gluing in.. again you'll see when you arrive there . .
How is it any different to cutting the slot in wood?
Oh, I think one if us has misunderstood. I don't think he's cutting the nut around the binding is he? That'd be stupid.
@@deandee8082 I take it back, I looked at some and they look beautiful, but the bind goes all the way along
Crapola idea Pat, shoulda stuck with your original plan I think! Always build your guitar with consideration to the nut needing replacement and your original plan would've kept that option straight forward... and I think it would also look quite tidy and been pretty simple as well. Often, first ideas are best mate, cheers. btw, I've bound fender (style) necks before but always past the nut, it's actually straight forward if you finish the curve down to the face of the headstock first.
Great Channel, great build. Do you add any type of silicone under the truss rod? If so where and how much to keep rattle at bay.
Love your work!
This is an automatic thumbs up channel!
My builds are quite boring, no fireworks or gangstas 🫤 I’m really enjoying this build though, especially your design twists 🙂
But you love working harder ;)
Bit early for Guy Fawkes day or were your neighbours celebrating the gluing if the fretboard?
Guy Fawkes seems to get longer each year, we've had a week's worth so far.
On HIGNFY they talk about Christmas Creep. I guess this is Guy Fawkes creep. The domino effect in action
Excellent.
Cheers :)
Love watching this channel
Thanks buddy :)
This is going to be fun to watch!
Thanks for showing how you sharpen a fret saw. My fret saw was wreaking havoc on my hands so I added a vertical grip to make it more ergonomic. So much better.
Should you use the file on alternate teeth then go from the other side?
No, the teeth alternate left to right to create a kerf, but the cutting faces are all at right angles to the direction of cut. Whilst there are saws that need to be sharpened from both sides, they don't crop up in cabinet making.
Never saw such a saw being sharpened.. no pun intended.. love seeing it..
Excellent work sir! Great idea on binding the neck!
Does anyone know why these episodes fly by in time? I start watching and long before I think it will end, it ends? It’s said that is gone long and time to quit? Time flys when you are working guitars!!! Thanxz
Well done and good plan!
Prolly to late but you may want to stop the binding at the nut rather than past it. Past the nut may result in a weird notch under the nut.
Hi, I actually want a palm router to cut a humbucker route into a guitar body and I noticed that's what you used yours for. Can you tell me if it came with the correct bit for that job? Additionally, on Amazon this one now seems to be called the Anesty Palm Router. Thanks for your help.
Love watching your processes; great for my own guitar building. Also love the super chill vibes
Just when i thought this build couldn't get better, you add neck binding. I can't wait to see the finished guitar!
I just routed my first truss rod channel yesterday. It was not pristine. I used a palm router with a side guide. I will never do that again. Too wobbly and imprecise. I think I used the wrong bit also. Lessons learned.
Yes, the fence on a palm router is probably a bit too small for a truss rod. In that situation a template would be a better option.
if only use pine for liek wings perhaps, run a 5" block down the center, good hardwood... the way pine moves so much you'll be tuning every song
What size router bit did you use for the pickup rout?
So if you’ve got some cupping how do you determine whether the planed edge is square? Just asking…
I reference the square on the two corners of the concave side, it's not 100% but close enough for rock and roll.
Really enjoying this series Pat. - and lots of good info. I find Fretfind2D very useful for printing off fretboards. I don't use it for cutting the slots, but I attach it to the template to help with positioning on the body, marking for carving etc. And for the spoke wheel cut out. But I guess that software wasn't available when you built your first guitar! Cheers.
Thanks for that, I'll check it out. There was a fret calculator available but the tape on the rule technique worked out for me.
Very cool tricks. My first guitar build was a Tele but I ended up making a second neck. I wish I knew that trick then, I destroyed a nice piece of figured Maple.
We've all been there :)
Great series. Just curious: What is your blue tape/ super glue budget?
Cheers, generally the tape and glue goes a long way but the bottles for the last glue I bought are not great and clog up really quickly hence me pouring it out like an ape!!
Brilliant... thanks!
Thanks for watching :)
Thanks for the tricks!
You're welcome buddy.
Good video Pat. I bought a small diameter slotting blade set up my huge sliding miter saw and cut about ten boards all in on setting. The couple a did with the handsaw again to avoid all the set with the big saw. But my handsaw seems to be cutting under sized. Stew Mac cryowire doesn't want to press in. Quite a pain. So anyway just pulled the trigger on a 6" slotting blade. Just need to make a sled for the table saw.
I'd love the space to have a cross cut of good table saw, would make life a lot easier.
That such a fantastic technique for transferring fret locations.
Cheers, works great for one of work.
Old school.. love it.. easy thing to do was use Stewmac fret spacing .. but using an existing guitar for reference is an idea that did not come to me..
I've used the fret calculator a few times for basses and it works well but there is always a bit of guesstimating going on.
Using the cutoff from the fingerboard might look really cool on the head stock of this build.
Telecasters don’t have headstock veneers as far as I am aware.
@@nickdryad maybe another reason to have one (and be different)?
@@rqkeating maybe but the simplicity of the Telecaster’s design and construction is its Beauty. Plus you’d have to go to extra unnecessary trouble to bend the veneer at the nut to allow for the curved transition.
I did think that but adding the curve near the nut put me off if I'm honest.
Loving this series. What palm router are you using?
Cheers, it's a Katsu. A cheapo job from Amazon but has served me well for over four years now.
You are very talented. I would pay you rather than any big brand custom shop. Good job and again thanks for posting your videos. I also like that we don’t have to wait days or weeks for the next episode. 🎸
I feel the same way Pat should start doing custom jobs for people... Have them buy the materials and just pay for the labor.. we could get some cool videos and education at the same time
Chears, very kind :)
I'd be up for that lol :)
hi great show love the details 16 eps i have just needed info ond my neck snaped epiphone not fined good advice for a novice like me / got there eventualy a w t e w
Glad you have enjoyed it and found the videos usefull.
Great videos I'm looking at buying a saw for cutting frets I have one with a kerf of 0.75mm would this be okay? Don't want to cut them and find it is wrong 😂
Ah Pat, I loved your RIC 12 replica project. The Tele is a great choice but dare I say it, a lost opportunity to create something unique and very special ... a 12 String Telecaster. The real McCoys are rare as hen's teeth. I have no doubt that a Shed of Dreams replica Tele 12 would be every bit as good, if not better, than anything the Fender custom shop could produce. Cheers from the Land Down Under.
Thank you for your inspiring attention to detail. I really appreciate your explanations as to why you are taking such great care in the steps and sequencing of what you are doing. I am inspired to take on make one or two of these guitars for my adult children. Thanks again.
