@Jayden P I was unemployed for 2 hours. I'm still at the same place now. It's a lot better, and it's great to be treated with respect.
I may be moving on from place soon, however, for a job as a mental health counsellor. Still, I will never forget what they did during a difficult time for me.

I want to do the same!! I'm in sales and I've been in sales for a long time. I'm tired of it and tired of the toxic stress of sales. Always pipeline pipeline pipeline quota quota quota. You make quota for months and everyone is your friend. But you miss quota for a month or 2 and everyone hates you. I want to quit so bad and I don't have anything lined up. I have enough saved to last me a bit. I may just quit and clear my head. Free up time to process and go to the gym more. Help!

      I’m a teacher. 25 years teaching
I teach 3rd grade ( in another country) with 50 kids in a class.
All signs are present at my workplace
We don’t have a high turnover at my school bc most teachers hang on to their salaries. They turn a blind eye to the toxicity because they feel nothing will be done . They teach , go home and get paid.

I left my position eight months ago after three years of bullying and intimidation from the boss. She is a marginal narcissistic who took great pleasure in tormenting staff who, she felt, weren’t loyal to her. I haven’t been able to work since then but feel like I’m ready to finally move forward. But the boss got her just reward - she is currently on ‘study leave’ while an external investigation is happening. She is the only one who hasn’t realized that there is no coming back from this. The work environment had every one of the five points and more - my favourite was getting other staff to spy on colleagues.

    • @user82194
      @user82194 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I just got fired from the same kind of person. He was a narcissist and felt that every employee he hired, they needed to “prove” their loyalty to him. He also refused to train and be patient with people when their just learning to do the job right. Instead, he would insult and belittle people that didnt grasp information as quickly as his photographic memory. He was so miserable with his life that he made sure everyone around him was miserable. When employees wouldnt cross over their job duties, to “prove” their loyalty to him (outside their pay-grade, too), he would find a way to get rid of them by lying about their employees work performance to corporate for approval of their separation. It was a nightmare there.

Trucking! Specifically the fuel hauling industry. As a female, it's pointless as the 'Good- 'Ol- Boy' network will always overpower the female fuel hauler. This industry is so heavily toxic it has sucked the life out of me. I've been driving trucks since 2000, and hauling fuel the last 4 of those years. The toxicity goes all the way up to the highest seats of corporate; it's an industry founded on corruption and if you're a very conscientious (female) driver, you'll be squashed out in every way. but not a lot of videos or articles talk about how females are treated in the fuel hauling industry- if at all. It's under the radar I guess, so no one knows this magnitude of sickness exists.

I've worked in healthcare for over twenty nine years. I have always liked being able to help people , but it has been a struggle for most of time. The main reasons are the overwhelming work load and having to deal with Doctors with arrogant, spoiled brat attitudes. Most hospitals refuse to hire enough staff to take care of the patient load... and if you bring this fact to their attention, they usually reply, " just do the best you can." I started a new job 2 weeks ago. I've had stomach pain and throbbing headaches since day 3. My manager has zero patience and has been trying to train me. She will say "this is how you do it" then you follow her directions. About 2 hours later, she will say "this company doesn't do it like that, you have to do it like this." I was driving home tonight and realized I can't stay there, even for the money. It sucks knowing I'll be losing a paycheque, but staying in a job like that will take its toll eventually. I have a rule though for making important decisions, I always give it 48 hours to assure it's the right one as I've made some hasty mistakes in the past that I regretted. I plan on giving my notice after this coming weekend.

I was to the point that I didn't care anymore. I already had one foot out the door at that point. When they asked what they were doing wrong, I just told them I was done. Let them figure it out on their own. I was the 4th guy to go in less then a year and he finally decided to hire replacements. I make way better pay now.

The source of my workplace related depression is because I am a shy introvert who has trouble connecting with people. It’s like everyone around me is in on something and there I sit feeling more and more withdrawn. The work week is excruciating for me. I would rather be home with my cats. I get such anxiety walking around and not sure of how to act when I walk by someone, so I look down at the ground. Gosh, I hate being around people.

Hey Dr, I've had depression pretty much my whole life and mainly have periods where I'm fine until something triggers me. Fast forward to now I got a new job sometime in March of this year as a bank teller. I came from a small town grocery store where I climbed the work ladder and became the front end Mgr. The only issue was the work hours and the fact that I had alot of responsibility, but it made me happy and I was confident in what I did. I thought that leaving would be the best thing. The bank was a completely different work environment for me and slowly made me feel worse about myself. I just could not fit in as much as I tried. Even in the middle of this job I felt uncomfortable about, my grandmother passed away who I loved very much. Needless to say I just got fired from the bank which has made my self worth even worse and every day just seems pretty hard. I wake up feeling restless and anxiety ridden. I'm just not me right now. I want everything to be okay. You want to think things will turn out for the better eventually but it's really hard to see from here

    • @DouglasBloch
      @DouglasBloch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

You should probably reach out to a counselor at Service if you don't have one now. You can tell yourself that being fired from the bank simply meant that it was not a good fit for you. It doesn't reflect on your abilities, because you were successful as manager of the grocery store

Around mid January my position was outsourced to the Philippines. If you were obedient and quiet (except when answering questions in class) and did what you were supposed to do, it seemed teachers were okay with it. I have noticed the popular kids or the ones who were "social butterflies" at school, even if they didn't do that well in their studies back then, seem to adjust better at work. Just something I kind of noticed.

My previous work caused me depression that I never experienced before in my life.
I lost a will to live, to do anything, I was just a slave of my work, my life. I hated the fact that you have to still live because I didn't see any purpose and sense in it.
This was caused by working extreme amount of hours, normally 10,11 but sometimes 15 hours a day. It was also caused by complete lack of support from my employer , rather opposite as my workplace culture actually demanded people to work crazy hours (as my boss once asked me ' soo.. you don't work at night but you could'). This should give you rough idea.
Finally by complete accident I changed the departments and now I couldn't be more happy. My free time came back and my will to live with it. I actually even enjoy my life again which I already thought is not possible anymore.
Now whenever I remember those grim and sad times, it brings chills down my spine and anxiety. After 3 months I still feel exhausted, like I really needed a year off to get back to normal, previous me.

    1. Gossip
    2. Anger
    3. Feelings being minimized
    4. Passive aggressiveness and anger (in me) which is toxic
    5. Management have no empathy all I was told is that I’m a hard worker none of them really wanted to get to know me when I’d ask them questions about themselves.
    6. Rude co workers
    7. High turn over rate
    8. Upper management spying on all of us on Thanksgiving when she took the day off. (I called her out on this and was completely ignored no one even called me to see if I was coming back)
    9. Manager also gas lit me when i asked her if she was going to hire someone new her response was “well you do only work part time and that’s what you wanted to work”
    10. Manager is demanding and talks to other management and asks them why I didn’t get a certain job done.
    11. Every time I went into work staff wouldn’t sit by the new girl.
    12. Race sticking with their own race
    13. A male manager touching me on my arm, fixing my collar, blabbing on about his wife and how wonderful she is when all i want is to find a certain project. He may have been on drugs to because he would act super high.
    14. People showing up to work high.
Im a Christian so at this point I’d rather just not work I’m too afraid to.
The worst thing a female co worker said to me though was “you hurt your back because you were in all of these sexual positions with your boyfriend…hanging off the chandelier.” I was also called “sexy” by another female co worker.
I think what helped me to get out of my head was to serve with kids around the community. Im thinking about working with children like at a Boys and Girls Club but I will never get back into special needs work or elder care do to how toxic people are. I’m hoping this will help me put myself back together to help instill confidence to pursue a new job in my field. Has anyone done this?

This sounds like a horrible situation. Do you have a counselor or a therapist you can talk about it with? The person would probably advise you to look for other work

There's all kinds of stress, we're certainly not born to only take on TOXIC stress our entire life.
Unlike negative stress that tends to occur in moments that tend to reveal areas of improvement, TOXIC seems to be stagnant, unchanging, and leads to burnout. Plenty of POSITIVE stress opportunities in life as well like fitness and improving our habits.
Personally I say much of our wellbeing can be bolstered with a solid ritualistic set of daily personal structure that implements many forms of positive stress to outweigh inevitable negative and especially allowing more self-awareness and conscientious of navigating out of toxic stress earlier before it escalates and infects us.

I really don’t know where I could go. Everywhere I work I end up in the same situation. I have not figured out how to think through the stress. I have been dealing with depression longer in my life than I have not. My stomach is in a knot. I have know appetite. I am that guy at work. It’s the worse feeling in the world. I’ve tried medicine, I have done ketamine treatments but don’t have enough to keep going. I am so tired. I hate this feeling. I used to be outgoing. I am in treatment, but it feels like it’s not working. I have a son in college and two small children so I have to earn. This life is so hard. I pray a lot. I want to feel change so bad. But 5 days a week 8 hours a day im the idiot.

I’m sorry you’re struggling. There are medications that you can take her sleep that are not habit-forming such as amitriptyline, trazodone, Remeron, and Seroquel. You might want to talk to your prescriber. Also there are many medications for depression. I wonder if you’ve tried them all?

Job I worked at just quit expected everyone to be there 24/7 even on days off would call you to come it and sometimes would ask you to stay longer than a scheduled shift. Like you felt obligated to be there all the time. Work was so much sometimes this was a retail job! When we got out of lockdown and they were short staffed making everyone including part timers work full time without benefits. And skipping breaks I was working in the fitting rooms and returns the fitting rooms were closed and me and one other associate was managing the mountains of returns and expected to put it all back during a shift felt the pressure of doing this work cleaning up after people sucked this was when I felt like I had shin splits from over using my legs most of us were working 7 day intervals the management or associates weren’t the problem mostly the fact they failed to hire more associates it wasn’t until last September that they finally hired more but also they would write you up for ridicules reasons. Also heard a new hire was working overtime and this was when old longer term associates were going days without work for awhile I’m in collage still living with parents only 24 no social life cause of this job was have bad depressive episodes cause of this job and stress I just finally had to wake up one day and say no to this shitty job

Imagine being and HR manager and working at a place like you describe. Due to the company culture there and management I couldn’t take it anymore and left after 7 years. Nepotism - watch out for that as it is usually not good.

I have been crying every day for a month because of my new job. The people are nice, but I hate the open office space, I hate the mandatory overtime. I feel as if I will have a heart attack or a brain aneurysm soon. And what is worse is everyone else is telling me that it's because I am lazy, and a lot of people do it just fine.
