    I healed 90% of my anxiety by facing my fears. It is very uncomfortable 1st but doing things that makes me uncomfortable destroyes the fear and ultimately heals anxiety. I personally believe that facing fears heals anxiety from the roots.

      You are correct. That is one of the main strategies for overcoming anxiety, facing your fear. I have a very good video called the fear behind fears and how to overcome it. I think you’ll find it helpful.

      @@anjaananjaan5107 yeah...its not as black and white as that im afraid... when you are gripped by automatic anxiety (amygdala originating one), you cant pep talk yourself out of the horrid feelings and lack of control... we have to train ourselves to notice when we start feeling tight chest or heart pounding, then take deep breaths and tell our mind we are safe and that there is no real threat and its only a symptom... and then best to take ourselves away from the situation and do one or all of the techniques mentioned here or what works for individual. Ive recently discovered TAPPING and seems to have some effect.

    I've suffered from depression, OCD, and anxiety and have for over 40 years. I've had two major depressive episodes the longest lasting nine months following the ending of my marriage just over 10 years ago. These last 4 days I fell into a depressive bout. Yesterday my anxiety and ruminating and overall depression led me to suicidal thoughts that I hadn't had in years. Slowly climbing out but will take time. Your videos are very helpful. Thank you and also I'm sorry for what you have struggled with over the years.

    Great advice Douglas, thank you! I also find that owning a pet really helps (most likely a cat or dog, so that you can get a reassuring hug any time you are at home alone). I own a cat and she makes me feel like I am never alone, and she follows me wherever I am. A cat's purr has got to be the most soothing sound in the world to help you calm down and fall asleep at night (especially when they curl up to you). Owning a cat doesn't take away all of my anxiety and depression, but I would say that it helps me by at least 50%. It's like having a little buddy that you can throw birthday parties for and celebrate holidays with! I highly recommend it for anyone who is willing to take care of an animal. 🙂

A small part of a much larger story but it always activated in situations that might’ve served to make me happy: interviews, dates, meeting new people etc. As my happiness was considered a no-no by Simon it always activated thus sabotaging me. Awareness of Simon and how it works and more importantly why it’s doing what it’s doing was very helpful and now it works to my advantage rather than against. Thank you.

I also love that you are so human meaning that you’re not just telling us something out of a textbook, you’re giving us information from actual experience and education which is so helpful. So many professionals aren’t helpful because they haven’t actually experienced the issues they are trying to help. You have, so you don’t tell us stupid things like just “calm down,” and other things that don’t help like your example with the elephant and the feather. Thank you 🙏🏻 so much for creating these videos. Even your voice is calming. 😊

    Thanks you so much for your videos douglas! They have been a god send! When I was going through the height of my depression and anxiety I've felt so alone because it seems men just don't talk about these issues...it was refreshing to see someone I could relate too....also could you do a video on intrusive thoughts? As I do belive this is quite common in anxiety and probably one of the hardest to talk about to someone that doesn't understand what the person is going through. Again thank you and keep up the positive work!

      I was planning on doing a video on OCD which is similar to hang intrusive thoughts. What do you think?

      I was also going add something to your list of what to do when anxious...which is meditation which really helps me to just be in the moment and just be! I understand that this is probably hard for some but really is a great tool if you add it to your daily regiment.

    • @DouglasBloch
      @DouglasBloch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That is the one tool I left out. I find that meditation can be used as a preventative measure, but it is sometimes hard to do in the midst of an anxiety attack.

      Douglas Bloch true....but once i was able to become the observer and watch it "come and go" through my meditation practice it felt very empowering.I have also found that yoga has been amazing with releasing emotional blockages! Thanks again douglas😀

    I have terrible anxiety, especially first thing in the morning. I've found that the practice of allowing it and not fighting it is slowly, very slowly helping me. I don't know if you've heard of Dr Claire Weekes teachings but many people practice her methods.

    The square breathing, count to 4 to breathe in, hold for 4, exhale for 4 and then hold for 4 after you breathe out. The Navy seals are taught this in situations of war or being attacked so they focus and stay calm. I can tell you it works every time I have used it.

    I love your videos. Along with my other therapies, when I have a stubborn panic attack like tonight at 3am, I take my klonopin watch a mediation video, then watch your videos to seal the deal. You have a reassuring voice and give good advice. Actually I just took half klonopin ( life saver) before your video just now. I also took a dropper of cbd oil. Thank god I live in a recreational mj state! I think that plus the .25 mg klonopin plus your soothing words did the trick in the 12 minutes.

    I’ve been having really bad anxiety problems due to an important exam and family problems. I’m having a hard time sleeping due to ruminating thoughts and I wake up with numb hands/feet ca. every 2,5-3 hours. Thank you your tips, I’ll try them out. I have a lot at stake, this year.
