My cousin had Covid and was in ICU in Brazil (Belo Horizonte) for nearly 2 weeks. 65 year old male with co-morbidities. He got wonderful treatment and his family around the world were all so relieved when he was discharged and went home last week 🌻

I am 63 with diabetes and chronic bronchitis. My second dose is scheduled for the 5th of May. I asked if I could put it off some and they wouldn't let me. We live in a small town in the north of Georgia, USA. I also sew masks for family, friends, and donate them to our local hospital to use as needed. Lately I have been using the blue medical masks as a pattern, but I would be interested in trying out Misty’s mask pattern! And the fabric is awesome!

I learned to sew to make masks for family and friends back when masks were in short supply. A Dr. Campbell mask seemed like the appropriate way to commemorate this chapter in my life. Good Morning to all 🌻 and as always thank you, Dr. Campbell! 🙏 Here in Germany is a discussion about the amount of intubations and the fact, that some physicians say, some of them are unnecessary and causes death instead of preventing them because of the superinfections. These physicians give also oxygen to patients, but with masks similar to the treatment of sleeping apnoea. The good thing about this is, the patients stay fully awake and can sit upright in there beds. A italien icu physician told yet at last spring, people to not lay down but sit upright and make breathing exercises instantly if they get Covid. The lung tissue are more likely to get compressed and collapse when laying flatt, he said. (Hope I could explain it, and my English is understandable)

Thank you so much for bringing this up. I live in Poland and it's the same situation. There is one virologist here, Dr Bodnar, who has been treating his Covid patients with medication rather than oxygen and he hasn't lost a single patient! Those forcing physicians to use oxygen therapy only for Covid instead of a combination of that and medicines should be held responsible for all the unnecessary deaths.

Brazil has done so well in the fight against AIDS, we were THE example of how to stop a pandemic
And then covid came and we did the opposite
The government didn't do anything useful, in fact the president himself got covid and the people are so dumb, they choose to follow the words of the president instead of the scientists
So this is all our fault and we deserve it in my opinion

Thank you for your updates. I'm a intensive care pediatrician in Brazil, and live in the South region.
Our cases are rising here, it's becoming colder.
Our hospitals are really over capacity and our greatest concern is anesthetic and sedative supplies, that are dangerously low and probably can't be refilled in time. Oxygen is a potential problem as the demand is 56% higher in March.
New ICU beds are being created but ventilators are lacking, As well as healthcare providers .
Other problem is the mortality of people being intubated! Reports show 81,7% mortality in Covid patients that are intubated.
Our governments don't want to use mitigation methods that involve lockdowns! So we can understand in the near future how is the virus behavior in a free environment. Really sad news.
We had a bit of good news, as the P1 variant doesn't escape completely from vaccines.

Glad that Raphael brought up the challenges of intubation. Also surprised that Dr. Campbell has not been made aware of difficulties with intubated patients. Many who are intubated get worse, not better. This has been known for a long time. Intubation can create micro-trauma to the trachea, and can induce germs such as bacteria. The patient needs to be sedated...and can not eat...they are tube fed. The breathing tube needs to be periodically cleaned and re-inserted. The intubation induces pressurized air into the lungs...you are being inflated. this has to be properly calibrated or lung damage can occur.

    • @dianeculverhouse6979

The situation is very complicated in Brazil, at least deaths from over 70s reduced significantly since vaccination began, at least in my hometown looking at the data I could see that. And yes the new variant is quite aggressive in younger people. Both my cousins, one in his 30s and the other in his 40s had to go to hospital to fight for covid...both relatively healthy, thankfully they are ok now. However I noted in majority most covid deaths in younger people are from overweight folks.

Thats the dirty little secret. Fear by the media of being accused of fat shaming is leading to an important underreported aspect of their outcomes. Some media outlets are displaying their images which is a way to show it without mentioning it. I'm not even sure if Dr. Campbell is prepared to address it on his channel. This is the lunacy of political correctness. It causes death . They should be vaccinating the fattest people and telling fat people to go on diets as an effective preventative measure but they won't.

@@michaelmullingo6197 Not every fat person is obese from over-eating per se. Many have a hormone imbalance which results in weight gain. Diets certainly can help, but they can also kill.
I knew someone (distant family) who was morbidly overweight, and his doctor and nutritionist put him on a carefully controlled diet, which he stuck to assiduously. He was also very active and did a strenuous job.
Six months into the diet, he collapsed and almost died. While he was in hospital, recovering, they diagnosed malnutrition, and stopped him from dieting. They then began to tackle the cause of his weight problem; a hormone imbalance. A couple of years later, and he was no longer clinically obese.
I agree with you about political correctness: It restricts the proper use of language, to the point of being beyond ridiculous in some cases. PC has mostly failed miserably in its aims. Rather than reducing prejudice, it serves to highlight differences.
I say what I mean, when speaking with or to others. To date, only a couple of people have complained to me during the past few decades, and those complaints were because of their perception of prejudice. Naturally, I apologised courteously, and rephrased my statements. Life's too short to make enemies.

However, to attempt to describe the US as a single entity when individual states often are as large or larger than European nations, often with similar self-determination, gives an inherently flawed impression. Dr. Campbell, I believe Rafael was not referring to the difficulty of the intubation process but rather to the lack of expertise of some physicians that have been forced to perform such procedure, leading to iatrogenic events. Obviously, if your specialty does not require you to deal with intubations routinely, you are more prone to commit serious mistakes when, out of necessity because of physician shortage, you have to to do the best you can to save a life. This is not uncommon in rural areas of South America, where only "generalists" have to do it all because of lack of specialists. I could be wrong, but I feel this is what Rafael was talking about.

The intubation issue pointed out by Rafael could be a consequence of lack of experienced ICU staff. I live in Chile, and we are in an extreme situation in health services as many other countries in South America where hospitals are at their limit. So hospital staff are helping and coping with the situation even though they might not be very experienced. Every health worker has been there, in the front line for so long and they have been pushed to the limit. In Chile, they have been increasing ICU capacity but now we are getting to the point where we won't have enough intensive care workers to manage those ICU beds. So resuming, I think, as a common person, that what is happening in Brazil with the intubation procedure could be the lack of expertise.

I'm a Brit living in Brazil, in Sao Paulo. Now when people say the hospitals are close to collapse that's a bit of impossible statement to qualify. I'd like to say the hospitals have gone over the edge, the amazing staff are now having to make do with what they have and are trying to work as best they can. The public hospitals in Brazil are always short of something and underfunded and the Drs work incredibly hard in a bad situation. But they have come to the point when they can't really do much more. Now, the private hospitals are better, but you need to buy insurance - but even these are full now!
My GF who is a Dr tells me the wards for bad cases are like a nightmare, nurses pushed to breaking point, Dr's looking after too many people and the worst thing imaginable - if you are intubated, there are no drug to sedate you, so you are effectively awake.
So what really grinds my gears is that a lot of people don't get how this is spreading, so they get together with their families and spread it this way. The governor of Sao Paulo just joined all the holidays together, but instead of people staying at home, they go to beaches and their houses in the countryside and spread corona to each other. Mark my words, in the next few weeks we are going to have another boom and it wouldn't surprise me if we start hitting 6k deaths per day.

I think it is important to take into consideration which vaccines are being used. 90% of the vaccine doses administered in Chile were from Coronavac, which had an already low efficacy rating, expecially after only one dose. While they have approved Pfizer, not many people have been given Pfizer shots, which is far more efficacious.

Problem is that it does not appear to be a very good vaccine in comparison to the mRNA vaccines, which is may be why people are still get sick despite a high vaccination rate.
