What the hell is going on in Canada. When a homeowner goes to the expense of building a rink for his kids and I’m sure other kids to use the rink instead of being in front of the idiot box or tablet. I hope the town grows up and let’s this family keep its rink. If they where hammering while building a house till 11pm the town could say nothing about it, so what’s the big deal about a family having a rink. I hope some people who can make a change stand up for this family. If you can’t have a rink in your back yard then what’s next? This is such a sad state our country is in.
The thing that sucks the most, is being told what to do, on your own property by people who don't even exercise & are probably a bunch of scale tippers too!
The point not brought up in this one sided video is the property is a designated heritage site. The owner clear cutted the acre sized back yard of hundred years old trees and vegetation. No permits to do any of this. It is a parking lot sized anomaly now 9 months of the year.
The trees weren't 100 years old, they were all manitoba maples which isn't even a tree, its a weed.... google it. there were 10 of them, and in their place he replanted over 100 trees.
I grew up with an ice rink nearby and played hockey everyday during winters with other local kids, it's outrageous they would take away such a beautiful hockey rink like that from the youth! Shame!!

This is not a shame. I love hockey more than anything, I Love backyard rinks, skated on them BUT, you cannot think all the homes should have to listen to pucks hitting boards all hours of the day and night. I would not want to put up with it. Rinks of old are great where you just have a temporary ice pad with snow banks, but not this. For me it would be all about the noise, not the look. This Guy cannot actually think he could build this without a permit. Come on Man, you had to know this COULD happen. That is a ton of money to risk.
He does not live on a farm in the middle of nowhere. He lives on a heritage property with strict by-laws. He broke the rules, now he's being held accountable.
I didn't hear anything from the home owners statement saying the rink had to go because of immigrants, Trudeau, or even Poilievre like most of the comments claim. Sounds like a municipal bylaw, too bad but the rink was kind of overkill for a backyard rink (refrigeration and all).
Most of the comments are daft along with the idea this guy had of putting such an extravagant rink in his backyard. However, the complaints probably did have to do with neighbours. Nearly all of which are of HK provenance.
Seems kids have to do drugs and get in trouble for people to be truly happy, what a shame, we had a rink when I grew up it was enjoyed by everyone! My Mom would go out in the middle of the night flood it. Bring back the good times!
He built this with no building permits or municipal approval. The rules are there to safeguard communities so anything built meets regulations and safety codes . Homeowners need to be aware of what they can and cannot do .

It's your property do as U please !! don't let the neighbors run your life or what U do with your property 🤟😎🤟
Thanks for the support appreciate it🙏
How can the neighbours complain of noise when there is no ice yet???
“Why don’t kids play outside anymore?!”
Government overreach at its finest...
typical non Canadians complaining guaranteed
That’s like the biggest back yard
Ask for a permit first next time?
Fuck permits it's his property.
If people can put pools in there backyard why not a hockey rink?
Clearly not Canada anymore..
The point not brought up in this one sided video is the property is a designated heritage site. The owner clear cutted the acre sized back yard of hundred years old trees and vegetation. No permits to do any of this. It is a parking lot sized anomaly now 9 months of the year.
The trees weren't 100 years old, they were all manitoba maples which isn't even a tree, its a weed.... google it. there were 10 of them, and in their place he replanted over 100 trees.
manitoba maples live 60 years max.
This is really sad 🫣
It's your petty neighbours who are behind it, calling the city to complain..Haters everywhere.
Look at Google Maps, and you can tell the rink was built for TPHS, his business.
I grew up with an ice rink nearby and played hockey everyday during winters with other local kids, it's outrageous they would take away such a beautiful hockey rink like that from the youth! Shame!!
Hockey is our game its crazy...me i took care of a rink for a town and after 20 years they kick me out for no reasons i was taking care of ice taking of snow some supervision helping for activitys kids and adults pick up games were so much fun now bad ice always close no pick up almost no activitys and they get pay lot more than me...personaly i dont play in my own town anymore but away so sad people in charge not having logic and they dont care i made it to the news also
The city got to leave this man and his family alone. The city is just addicted to control and telling people what to do.
His neighbour funds a member on Markham council. That's why the city is going after him.
Liar
Yards not zoned for outdoor rinks.
You shouldn't live out in the middle of nowhere to have a nice drinking canada. You fascist.
Guy cuts down heritage trees for a rink ?..what a fool..rinks are fun yes but one that size does not belong in a back yard.
These kids spend hours on this rink and not on I Phones or playing video games and that's a problem?!?!
Pathetic from Markham and the neighbours. Bet if it was a makeshift cricket pitch they'd allow it.
the rink should stay, what harm is it doing. dumb laws
