In my mind, whoever complained about this family's rink... and the counsellors and the judges, who ruled against the rink, are all extremely short-sighted. Having this rink, in the back yard, is actually a good thing. While the kids are playing on it or practicing, it creates an atmosphere wherein criminals are less likely to be skulking around in the dark, trying to steal items out of people's yards. The neighbours should actually be thankful that the rink is there. Also, it adds Canadian atmosphere to the neighbourhood. I am almost 70 and was born in Canada, however, I am not a hockey fan, but that said; I love that this family has a passion for this sport.... and I would love it if I had a neighbour, like them, who put a hockey rink in their yard... hockey promotes good healthy activity for the body and wholesome sportsmanship for the mind.

Really sad, this is Canada's sport and it's very disgusting that someone would go out of their way to complain. Toronto and the GTA has way more issues of concern than to bother law abiding citizens. Really sad. Not the Canada I grew up in.

As he stated that other residents have been allowed to construct additions on to their Heritage Homes. Those are being used on a permanent basis. The Hockey Rink is seasonal use.
This is Hockey we are talking about. It's one of the things that literally Defines Canada. And some, I'm looking for a job, elected no bodies. Decide that this fine example of a Father Figure cannot look after his kids needs. Keeping in mind that they are not kids for long.
Those who have launched a Vendetta against Mr. Ross need to check what they are doing. They are supposed to fight to make the community better. Not throw up restrictions on people as to how they want to enjoy their lives and property. Especially when no harm is being done.
The City should have to clarify why this is being done. And answer Mr. Ross when he asks Why? They must also state how his Rink is causing any problems? And if there are any complaints about the Rink and from who?
We didn't have the kind of room in our backyard that this man has. But when I was a kid. My DAD made an ice rink. He put down some wood boards around in the yard. He attached thick plastic to the boards and used the garden hose to put down water. And we had an ice rink. He did that for us for a number of years until I started going to High School and other things kept me busy. But myself and the neighborhood kids, we played Hockey on that rink all winter for years. It definitely improved things in the community.
What is wrong with these politicians and the City of Markham?

I have seen these criminals who call themselves authorities in action in stouffville causing ireversable harm . This man is not exaggerating . The judges support those criminals .
