    Thanks for this! much more involved than I anticipated. FYI eBay automotive has new OEM cameras for around $50.00 USD in the past I got some used parts they seemed OK except the cost of shipping. I ordered my camera from Amazon Canada the camera was $135 CDN or about $100 USD with free next day shipping. my 2009 has an electronic automotive rust protection system, seems to work on the body panels etc. I'm in Ontario we use too much salt in the winter. this is the 2nd camera replacement at 164,000 km or a little over 100,000 miles

    Good job. When I replaced mine, I broke the same 2 yellow clips. The same camera screw was corroded on mine, i managed to use a dremel to grind a slot and use a large slotted screwdriver to get it out. My old camera didn't have a hole in it.. Crazy!

    Great vid ! It would be exactly how my repair would have gone as well lol
    mine too has been gone for three years
    A lot of water gets back there
    Been meaning to do this for awhile
    Might add some sealer around the camera waterproofing it
    Again thanks for making Genny vids for all of us
    Update :just replaced mine ,taillights came off fine thank god did have to stop by the dealer for some clips lol
    Masked the replacement lens and covered it in plasti dip to waterproof it hopefully works for the long run

      @Xtalgic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it’s a pain in the butt so grab a friend. If you plan on flushing your coolant I’d do it at the same time so you can remove the upper radiator hose to gain way more access to the alternator. Good luck!

    @danswaney4134 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The same happened to me too. Like dropping a screw inside the rear lamp and having to remove the whole lamp assembly just to shake it out. Or a rusted screw where I too had to resort to my dremel to get it out just like you did. From now on I try to use galvanized screws where I can (steel÷nickel alloy). Ironically, the rust disolver gel helps convert rust to nickel too.

    • @thealbrights4169

      How did you solve that Brian? Was it visibly kinked? If so, how far from connector if you don't mind? Mine is out too...2012. It slowly died. Would come on intermittently but felt it was moisture related.

    I don't know what year your Gennie is, but on my 2012 Gennie, all the camera wiring is routed within the channels of the outer trunk lid, so I can't get to the connector with disassembling the trunk lid. I wanted to unmate the connector, clean the contacts and remate it to see if that would cure the wavy edge to the display.

    Haha no shit that was great timing on my part! The rusted tail bolt bought me some time to try to save you 🤣🤣🤣 Looks like the seal on your tail light isn't great and its letting water leak behind the whole housing allowing it to get in-between the trunk panels.. doesn't look like much but enough for moisture to just sit in there

    Did this myself - some tips: You can and should drill a hole at the corner of the trunk lid where it meets. Put a screw driver in and you can easily dislodge the bothersome clips that you cannot otherwise get to. Marked the right spot with a pen, then center punched, then small bit then larger one for the right size hole. Worked perfect and looks OEM. Also have to work the plastic cover off the lid after you get the anchors loose. Takes a little force. Also. the plastic latch cover comes off w/o having to unbolt it from inside. Little tabs on the bottom can be reached with the trunk lid open. photos.app.goo.gl/y3AxzRb4NcrfXNDF7 (drilled holes). photos.app.goo.gl/okvSau7xUb7YWK9Z7 (clip holes)
