    The saddest thing about Jordan Peterson is how he is often portrayed in the media as a racist or a Nazi....There is not a trace of either in anything that I have ever heard him say.... Society would be better if more listened to what he says.....and just think....

      @Psychonaut ok let me fact your bs real quick. Peterson was taking prescribed benzos from his doc. He then tried to get off them and his body reacted poorly. He never abused them. He already has auto-immune issues so that's what contributed to what happened. Luckily he is better and has another book on the way.

    • @desitterspace2127
      @desitterspace2127 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @Psychonaut The problem with your assertion is that the pharmaceutical treatment of mental illness has been, and continues to be, the Wild West in terms of what’s appropriate therapy for depression and a host of other mental disorders. I frankly believe that anti depressants and other drugs are way over prescribed, and there are many in the medical world who would tend to agree, but there are just as many physicians who strongly support the prescribing of drugs in treating mental illness, and do so liberally. You can find just as many depressed people who will claim that benzos saved their lives as those that say these drugs destroyed theirs! All drugs have side effects and act differently for everyone. Metabolism, genetics and a host of other factors makes the efficacy of any drug, especially ones that work in the brain, often a crap shoot. I’m sure Jordan knew of the risks, but suffering from severe depression himself, made the calculated risk to take the drugs. Unfortunately for him, he fell into the “disaster camp” of benzo patients. Its hard to claim he was woefully ignorant when the medical community at large remains divided with the data we currently have which is chaotic and mixed at best. Again ,with that said, how does his understanding, or misunderstanding of anti-depressants, one that pretty much mirrors the views of many reputable doctors, disqualify his philosophical positions on cultural issues or human behavior?

    I am almost 40, and nothing makes me happier than seeing people like this young lady truly listen and take lessons away from those who have come before. There is something to learn from everyone whether you agree with them or not. Unfortunately in the past few years you've seen a decrease in willingness to only listen based on tribal lines and in that dynamic everyone loses.. it truly makes me sad and I sincerely hope that people begin to open up their minds again otherwise large pieces of the puzzle that we call life will be lost. Anyway, great video, keep learning!

      People have always been in there their tribes. individuals like us who listen carefully to JP types, are simply waking up to how deep the tribal mind goes.
      I mean is it really the case people are becoming more tribal or are we simply becoming
      aware of it
      I wouldn’t be so pessimistic about the ‘degeneration into tribes’. I think that’s a trick of the waking mind. We are becoming aware of how tribal we are.
      But.
      I think
      If anything we are slowly, and I mean stupidly slowly, growing out of it. It’s hard to notice though
      We might be less tribal than anytime inhuman history.
      I know that’s unfathomable given all this racism sexism and lgbt stuff going on about group this and group that, but you watch.
      It might take hundreds of generations to come but I think tribal mind is growing out.
      Especially if we keep JP in mind.

He points out a lot of problems, which isn't hard, but doesn't have solid solutions not to mention his moral compass is skewed when talking about capitalism. Chris Hedges is new to me but I jumped around in a 1.5 hour video and he is hair-pullingly boring as his pace is that of a snail. But the second he mentioned white male privilege that was all I needed to hear. It's nice to be able to hear just that and know immediately that persons intentions are skewed. I would add Ben Shapiro and his campus talks around the US. Even if you don't agree the conservative argument is always the best to hear in my opinion.

But until you do it, you’re just giving yourself psychological feel good pellets. It’s a farce. And now that i am getting older, I can no longer pit things off by saying, “i’ll do it someday”. No! Someday is today. And now I have an aim, a target, a delivery system, a feedback system by which I can see how I can adjust my sights, and no aims pointing contrary to my main focus. I quit drinking for the 1st time in my adult life, (262 days), i’m eating good, exercising, I put myself on a schedule. My life is so much better, and becoming fulfilling. I am so thankful to Mr Peterson for giving me the tools to climb out of the hole I was in. And I guess more importantly, the realization that I could even get out.

      It is hard to compete with yourself when you dont have terms of reference to aspire to even if not competing. People need to celebrate accomplishment not belittle or diminish it because it attacks their self esteem. So often I meet young people who have been taught in ways that seems to push the accept yourself idea without carrying the idea that small bit further to acknowledge you can accept yourself but you do not have to content with yourself to the point of apathy and stagnation.

      Well done!! Often it's taking the first steps that are the hardest when it comes to big life changes/improvements. Just remember this: your fear of the future doesn't set you apart from everyone else. In fact, it's probably one of the few things that we all have in common, regardless of what "tribe" we belong to or our willingness to admit to it. I think most rational, thinking people experience fear/trepidation over what the future holds for us, both individually, and as a group, culture, species etc. You've already done what some would consider the hardest part, and now you're somewhat inoculated against falling into that same rut, being able to see red flags when they present themselves, as well as possessing the tools to navigate an exit strategy if necessary. As far as what the future holds in store, the old adage seems to be the best: Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, embrace whatever falls in between. The most important part is that you keep moving forward. Or, maybe, the biggest takeaway from this paragraph is that I shouldn't be left alone with a keyboard and a comments section after just having had a bunch of coffee. Either way, I wish you continued success,

I opened myself up to Christianity again and then I cried out to God in pain and suffering. I had several mystical experiences. Yes, the institution of the Roman Catholic Church/Vatican is super evil...but that doesn’t mean people with good hearts can’t derive profound meaning from their teachings. @Psychonaut Fair enough, but Jordan has been fairly open about acknowledging mistakes he’s made, learning from them, and taking responsibility. News flash: None of us are perfect, and never will be. But what I find most comical (and hypocritical), is how the elites on the left, who’s character and intellect are questionable at best, constantly cherry pick “flaws” of people who’s ideas pose a serious threat to their world view as reasons to discredit or disqualify everything else that person may have to say on a given subject. It’s no wonder “institutions of higher learning” don’t want Peterson on their campuses, because then they would be forced to challenge his assertions with rational arguments instead of the childish emotion based drivel and character assassinations they are most comfortable wielding! Constantly calling someone you disagree with a Nazi or Hitler may score points with the uniformed intellectually challenged hordes that attend these schools, but falls rather flat with those who have developed the ability to analyze ideas using critically thinking skills!

Understanding how words used like this in simple conversation perpetuates a stereotype and holds context to a past no one is proud of but something we all have to accept. Halfway through your vid and I’m getting emotional just watching you listen intently. Listening and open-mindedness is huge.
    I didn’t open up to it until I was in my late thirties. 42 now.
    You asked as question on if it’s possible to stop the declining curve of potential. My answer is a big YES!! Learning and listening can be learned later, it’s just hard for most of us.
    We have a view we’ve crafted of how everything works. That doesn’t have to dismantled, but it can be improved or changed.
    My humble advice if you’ll allow: Learn and listen whenever possible, but be skeptical of criticism without citations. People have dragged Peterson through the mud and tried to ruin him, all in the mission of shutting down ideas they don’t like. That’s not only dangerous but it tears people/communities apart.
    Stay strong, stay open, and stay safe, my friend! Subbed! ❤️ from Texas.

  • @russellchido
    @russellchido 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    "is there a way to grow potential again?"
    I'd say that's what the sacrifice is for. It goes both ways. You either sacrifice potential to make reality, or you sacrifice reality to get potential. If you play it completely safe there's not much potential for anything. You are trying to keep things the same as much as possible. In that sense you are sacrificing the potential for other realities for your present security. You can also then make a sacrifice that will threaten your current security for something better. Once you make a sacrifice you are in the place were things can get worse or better. If you made the right sacrifice they'll get better, but it's up in the air.
    It's not really possible to stay in potential forever, of course, since resources run out, especially if we aren't accumulating them. And it's also not guaranteed to be able to stay in one reality either because the world is always changing around you in ways you can't control. It's a constant balancing act.

    • @DerekJohn
      @DerekJohn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is pretty spot on, and just to complete that last thought about resources: the resource that you can’t necessarily replenish (at least not yet, maybe some future technology will change this in some way, but) is time (like he said in the beginning) and so you are forced to take on that balancing act or face a bigger dragon down the road

    This made me 😊 and filled my ♥️ with joy. To see a young mind thirst for knowledge and wisdom like this is so refreshing. Often, it seems to me, that the youth of today are just looking for a way to play a victim card or blame something or someone for their shortcomings. And they aren’t getting the positive role models they need from the adults in media, social media, politics, sports or entertainment. If they dont have a positive role model in their personal life, like a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, etc. Then I fear where they and the world will be in another 30yrs. I thank the maker for Jordon Peterson. I dont know why the PC police are always after him. If they ever stopped and TRUELY listened to his messages they would understand why he’s so loved by his fans. He should be celebrated as a voice of wisdom and reason. But to see this beautiful young woman’s mind absorb and appreciate this message about growth and potential filled my heart with joy. Great perspective. But how much of anyone's potential is wrapped up in talent?

    • @philossifer6252
      @philossifer6252 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Potential is just capacity. The most important thing not mentioned in this segment is parenting. A lot of potential is lost because parents often don't know how to direct or guide children into self discovery. Self discovery is the attempt at tapping into one's potential.

      I don't see anything wrong with her enjoying astrology. She's not scamming anybody. She has an interest you don't believe in. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Big deal. Grow up and let people like what they like.

      @Chris George 😂😂 you're having a fit because someone believes in something you don't like. Leave people alone. It's not hurting anybody. The only problem here is you. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Stumbled on your video doing my usual "Jordan Peterson" search ranked by upload date.
    I interpret his 'potential vs actual' dilemma to mean that you can be something, but you must choose, and not be something else. If you don't choose than time choose for you. "Life is what happens when we are trying to figure out what to do."
    ( Just a small suggestion is to choose less 'colorful' descriptors. 5:15 When your grandchildren unearth this, you might have to explain. )
    Keep up the good work. And might I suggest another Jordan Peterson video that I watch again from time to time.
