Not really an Easter egg because it's stated outright, but the ending confirms that the Arceus we catch and carry around is not actually Arceus's true self but a proxy/ avatar of Arceus that allows the player to use a portion of its power. Apparently in Japanese, Kamado's accent that breaks through at the end is Kansai dialect, which could suggest that he's actually from Johto, which is the pokemon world equivalent of the Kansai region. I've seen some people say specifically that he could be from Mahogany town, since Mahogany is called a ninja retreat, which would explain Beni, and it's near the Lake of Rage, which could have been where the pokemon that destroyed his home came from.

    69. Snow goggles aren't to keep snow out of your eyes, though they can help with that too. The narrow slits prevent snow blindness, where sunlight reflecting off snow makes it hard to see.
If you pay attention to what the NPC is saying, you can clearly tell that the DIVING goggles of Palina wouldn't do anything to prevent this. Also, Palina's goggles are to help her swim from island to island because she's ostensibly not allowed to use Basculegion.

The narration for the reveal trailer says that this game's story is a tale from a long, long time ago.
While definitely based on that time period, I don't think 156 years is nearly enough time for the people of modern Sinnoh to not know their region was once called Hisui or to not have knowledge about the events that took place during this game. It would be one thing if this game had an event towards the end that gives a reason for such a thing, but that isn't the case.

Funny enough although Eturna City got the name from its long history, this means the history of Eterna City isn't actually that long. Possibly they gave this name for hoping this city with the statue could live a long history in the future.

From the Sinnoh games, we know Cynthia's family lived in this very town for ages and they were passing down the Sinnoh myths, and we even meet Cynthia's Grandmother in the game for this. All of this totally matches up with how and what Cogita is in this game. Honestly I feel it is clearly implied that the commander's partner is dead and got killed by rampaging pokemon in the past.
I believe that the commander and his "problemsolver", that was the best plot twist in my opinion, are the last of an ancient tribe that lived in the Hisui-Region even before the ancestors of the two clans arrived. The region was clearly settled long before as the ruins suggest. When you interact with the statues in the highlands there is the question "but who built them?", I believe this also fits the character of the commander and gives a good and compelling motivation for his actions when he clads himself in steel and literaly walks to war to kill whatever pokemon is at the tempel causing the rift.
It is clearly stated, that the commander and the mochi maker are the last of there people that got destroyed by pokemon. This is the reason why the commander wants to build a new and save place for the people. Also the place of their origin has the same name as one of the ruins in the highlands map. This would also explain why the armour he wears seams to be a combination of japanese and european design inspiration. Compared to the other leaders of the Expedition he is also the only one with a clear japanese inspired background and name. The professor is strait up a person of galarian (english) background as he is speaking english in the japanese and german game versions.
I started today with my japanese playthrough of the game after I finished in german and I have to say some parts in the english translation are very different then the original japanese and also the german translation which I think are interesting. In the original and the german translation the "Nobles" are called Kings and Queens specificly.
Now that I have this fancy TH-cam-thingy I leave a sub and maybe I will sometimes offer translations in the comments; at least someplace where my Japanese Studies come in handy

It's by far the weakest connection here as this connection would therefore connect Volo and Cyrus when other than that they have no connection. The whole architecture and even the clothing resembles, what you can find about Japan around 1850 to 1900. It'd make sense, that there are other Pokédexes as well, ride pokémon are already used in Alola. Spiritombs "hundreds of years" would make sense as well, if its just 150-200 years back from today.
The story framework is a colonization effort and learning about "zoology". There are no "farm animal" pokémon around like miltank, tauros or mareep, who should already be domesticated on the main land. Also we get a Petitlil to craft a known remedy for the psyduck.
I do not really see a reason to say it is way earlier... We can buy dress suits and "modern" shoes for arceus sake.

Given the level of technology and the slowly improving relations of the Diamond and Pearl Clans, and the Galaxy Team, I feel confident that the game takes place in the early to mid 1800s. Allow me to explain:
Photography as we know it today got its start in 1839, and barring Professor Laventon's steampunk Kodak, the photographic technology lines up well. The Galaxy Team also appears to use electric lighting, albeit an early iteration of it. I also believe that gunpowder had been invented, due to the firework shot that fires out of Pokeballs to signify a Pokemon having been caught. Maybe guns just don't work well on Pokemon. Finally, we have the aftermath of the events of the game. Since the Temple of Sinnoh was destroyed, and we as the player discovered that no entity known as Sinnoh exists (instead being Arceus, then Dialga and Palkia), the Diamond and Pearl Clans, with the Galaxy Team, decided to rename the Hisui Region as the Sinnoh Region, and to rename the ruins of Sinnoh's temple to Spear Pillar after the events of the game. This would reflect Hokkaido's renaming, which happened in 1869.

That one spirit, Vessa, searched for the player to help her collect them all, which could've been done by herself too but she still had that single wish to play with someone before getting sealed again. Yeah the whole time travel thing is a dubious theory at most. There's a lot of inconsistencies and paradoxes that conflict with it being connected after the events of Diamond and Pearl.
I believe they decided to do this in order to leave it open ended, thus your character could even be from the real world like how they were in the Mystery dungeon games, which would explain a lot, such as the numerous options for your character to state they're unaware of what Pokemon are in addition to Arceus explaining to you what Pokemon are.
If they were Lucas/Dawn, these options wouldn't make any sense considering they already completed the Pokedex and know what Pokemon are and it's world just for starters. In addition, your character uses a modern looking phone instead of a rotom phone (for modern series) or a xtransceiver (updated version of a poketech that people used as phones up till gen 5)

I think there's some interesting details regarding some of the characters. While it is true that Cyrus and Volo's goals are similar, what led them to make those goals are different.
Cyrus' is explained from his grandfather, Cyrus' parents' expectations are too high and and reject Cyrus' efforts during childhood. If you look back at Cyllene, she is strict but is caring, and sadly her descendents only picked up on that strict side over the years which led to Cyrus' parents' ill behaviour.
Volo on the other hand doesn't seem to have issue with childhood, at least as far as we know. Given by the fact that his and Cogita's ancestors are the Sinnoh People of Old, Volo's goals maybe more of an obligation, or he just had a God-complex. Which sound a lot like Sephiroth funny enough.
Speaking of Volo's words, after his defeat, he says he'll look up every riddles of Sinnoh and one day meet Arceus, that it might take him years, or even centuries. Scary enough, this ended up became Cynthia's hobby, and she would be the one to meet Arceus in the HG/SS event. Thankfully Cynthia never tried to become an evil God. Also it's funny to consider Cynthia's character is kinda like Cyllene in a way, that caring side may have reached to Cynthia.

I know this video has been out a while, but it's based on a lot of early fan theories that have been disproven. The player characters are not Dawn and Lucas. They are also named Rei and Akari. And not all of the characters in Legends are necessarily the ancestor of the characters they resemble. GameFreak spoke on both subjects. While Rei and Akari LOOK like Dawn and Lucas, there are enough differences (including handedness) to contradict it.
In particular, Iscan and Palina would need to be the ancestors to the same people - they are having an affair that they don't want their respective clans to learn about, and when the clans unite at the end they come out about the relationship and get married.
Speaking of, Palina isn't wearing snow goggles. That's a diving mask. Because she is a diver by trade. Snow goggles look like what the Recon Squad in Sun and Moon wear. They aren't to keep snow out of the eyes, they're to reduce glare and prevent Snow Blindness.
