So this song is actually part of a mini story inside this album.
Part one is him sitting in his car outside a therapist. That one is called Get Out Of The Car.
This one is him in the therapist.
The therapist says"I don't know, maybe get a kitten" in the next song, Kirby, so the song is all bout his cat, Kirby.
    Dude thinks different.

In the genre, totally agree. One of the best ever.
"I am so completely off the god damn grid it's not a question of addressing me, it's what do the symbols under the dresser mean. "
"Today a thousand sea lions got up and left the pier, they had successfully invaded and secured for twenty years. Some said it was the food supply or shifting weather patterns. Truthfully a whole community of scientists are baffled."
      Truly a wizard with words.

Aesop released the ITS album a few months ago, it’s top draw as well 👍 There is a video of someone breaking down the lyrics to None Shall Pass which gives a great example of his use of metaphor and cultural references to tell a story, not to mention his breadth of vocabulary.
However….in his artistic split from Kimya Dawson, she made some interesting remarks on the tools he uses to construct verse…

Every song on this album " The Impossible Kid" is really good. This song is about him at his psychiatrist office. It's part of a 3 set of songs. The theme of the album is "In some ways it’s about my endless and often impossible quest to just feel OK-with myself, with the world, with my place, with my life, my relationships, my art, my impact, if any. It’s the impossible quest for happiness and satisfaction. I kind of also think it can refer to generally being stubborn, someone who won’t budge within the creative process." He moved into an isolated barn to make the album. Lupe Fiasco has a 40 min video on the tube about why Aes is the best, he also has a short where he raps "Supercell" acapella.

For me though, his best solo album is 'Skelethon' ('ZZZ Top', 'Tetra', 'Zero Dark Thirty', 'Racing Stripes', 'Crows' parts 1 & 2, 'Fryerstarter' - all fire. Also, check out 'Lice' - his project with Homeboy Sandman - particularly 'So Strange' or 'Katz'. Great reaction, btw!!!

Everything this man has done is fire.
It's worth checking out the Labour Days album, old but pure gold.
No Regrets is a masterpiece of storytelling, Daylight is an anthem and Everything else is an epic vibey metaphor heavy leftist grumble.
Your brain will hurt after though and it requires repeat listening to decipher.
Impossible Kid is dope obviously and None Shall Pass is another masterpiece. The bonus track Pigs at the end of None Shall Pass is darkly funny af.
Garbology is a great remix album collaborating with Blockhead who is just the perfect producer for Aes.
Malibu Ken isn't the greatest beat-wise for me but is still a brilliant album.
Integrated Tech Solutions dropped recently and he hasn't fallen off at all, still top tier creativity, wordcraft beats and flows

The Impossible Kid is my favorite Aes album of all time. I'm still unpacking Integrated Tech Solutions so we'll see where that ends up. If I were to recommend some Aesop Rock vinyl it would have to be Bazooka Tooth. • @tristan8922

the beautiful thing about Aesop is that the more you listen to him, the easier it becomes to decipher his cryptic bars. A lot of the time he's not saying anything too complicated, he's just using some unique visual metaphors to paint a picture.
Little fuckers fighting, mother hiding in her hulu.
I'm climbing up the stucco, let's get to the Seppuku. Utto.
The image of an exhausted, distracted mother of two kids fighting in the doctor's office waiting room.
The whole scenario is driving him crazy; "driving him up the walls" or up the stucco cement walls of the office.
Seppuku is a form of taking one's own life that was considered honorable among the feudal Japanese samurai class. Traditionally, the act consisted of stabbing oneself in the abdomen with a short sword to ensure a slow and agonizing death. A hyperbolic metaphor for how therapy can feel as you "pay up to filet yourself and others in the name of help"
Ya'll have only scratched the surface but that's why Aes' is so beloved by his listeners. He has such a unique way with langauge and visual metaphors. He's one of a kind.

Anyone who has ever had to deal with the bureaucracy of healthcare while struggling with depression or other mental illness(shocker: you aren't really in any condition to do all that shit) knows exactly what this song is all about.
So much of Aesops output on this album and the adjacent ones is him mining some really rough years he had where he drifted out of touch with his local scene and his friends there and became really depressed, didn't take good care of himself etc. I think he's doing better these days, at least somewhat better, but there's no doubt that his psychological issues have held his career back - in the late 90s and through most of the 2000s he was someone a lot of people expected to become a superstar.

The first verse is his thought process while filling out the information. (My first name, My last name, In in case of emergency, employed by, etc), second is him waiting to see the therapist, and last is his struggles with him. People have mentioned it's a 3 part segment which it is.. But one of his top viewed songs is also one of his best off this album called Rings. It's about being an Artist and not sticking with it and the feeling of regrets associated with it. (Later he dropped a single called Rogue Wave where it shows all the art he's been doing as of recent and it's incredible)

TAOS Two with Nigel and Mr Dibbs
      Off Broadway with Rob Sonic
      Killing Time with Illogic
There's so many songs out there where Aes just effortlessly steals the show despite being on with other great rappers. Easily the 🐐🐐🐐

Check out Mystery Fish, first track on that album goes hard. Also Kirby is a great song about his cat lol. It’s hard for me to find an album these days I can listen to too to bottom and this is one. Also you need to check out Hail Mary Mallon the collab he does with some other cats I forget their name. But the album Beastiary is amazing. Jonathon, Used Cars, and Whales are bangers.

So, Impossible Kid is probably the most easily digestible of his work. None Shall Pass may be the most dense. ITS is a blast. Garbology with Blockhead and Malibu Ken with TOBACCO have got some absolute heat on them (Jazz Hands, That is not a Wizard, Tuesday, Corn Maze).
One thing you'll learn listening to him more is that he references his own shit all the time, so the more you listen the more you will catch. One of the last lines of this track "Preservation is a doozy" is a reference to something he did. Google "Preservation Aesop Rock." 😊
Aes is still making music all the time, and he has worked with some names in the game. Keep diving.

A collab between Aes and Em would be a dream for me, as it would bring my rap listening career full circle. I ventured into hip-hop via Eminem, and after 20 years I've settled on Aesop.
But I dunno if Eminem would give him the exposure, and risk his ''best white rapper'' status, or if Aesop would be interested in reaching such a large market. MTV tried to sell the guy commercially, but none of his tracks makes me think he vibed with that idea. Well, maybe _Take a titty out,_ but that one's a heavy outlier.

I'd give you some more recommendations, but there are honestly too many to list here.
Nearly every Aes track is a timeless classic that should be studied by any serious fan of hip hop or writing in general.
But alas, he almost never gets the credit he deserves. It's like he said in Klutz, "I've been ignored for longer than you've been interested."
