    I think it's just the opposite, the on and off will do the damage to the motor. The on and off will pull high current and damage the motor modulation of the head pressure control will keep the current down. I think this type of pressure control is just another way of VFD. This is the control I use and have been using them sense they came out well over 20 years ago. Good call for using them.

    Only heat pumps need crankcase heaters. I guess they can't open the windows in an office, so you have to run the a/c in cooler weather.

    • @throttlebottle5906
      @throttlebottle5906 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      exactly, some places have to run a/c year round, so you add crankcase heater, fan cycling/pressure controls and other junk to make it keep working and not self destruct

    Would you use a winter start kit with a fan cycling switch instead?

    Recall that the tech on Comfortplus Heating and Cooling used a heating pad on one until he could get a kit. Worked.

  • @jammin345
    @jammin345 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The kits are compatible with PSC and direct drive motors. This covers most residential systems. The controller will start the motor at max voltage for bearing lubrication, then ramp down to setpoint. They get a bad rap because of the low sleeve bearing temp when running at a lower speed in cooler weather which may cause motor seize up to over time. I’ve only seen one failure from seizing, among many in operation in Tele Data rooms without issue.

    • @jeremymcguire7069
      @jeremymcguire7069 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is the motor master a self-contained variable frequency drive? I don't understand how it could vary the speed of a PSC motor otherwise.

    • @jammin345
      @jammin345 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeremymcguire7069 Good question. The device varies the impedance on the single speed/single phase winding which inversely increases/decreases induction motor voltage. The VFD uses an inverter DC-AC, and pulse width modulation for speed control.

    Hi there MI Heating Guy. Not too long ago I had asked you about replacing a TXV on a 2009 2.5 ton Carrier infinity series air conditioner/heat pump. It was replaced but apparently the unit also had a failing dual capacitor; it was leaking oil. It was replaced as well. Condensing coil was cleaned as part of the spring maintenance. There was one important question that I had forgotten to tell the tech that maybe you could answer. Towered the end of last summer when the condenser unit would first turn on the compressor would briefly get very loud, then go back to normal decibel levels. It would pulse up and down like that a few times until maybe 5 minutes into the cooling cycle. Then that noise would stop and the compressor would sound normal. It would not do this every time it started up. Your thoughts? It has a two stage compressor.
