- New BYD Seagull 2023 in-depth Walkaround
The Seagull, part of BYD's Ocean series, is a 5-door, 4-seater electric vehicle built on e-platform 3.0. It showcases a rugged, sharp design characterized by wavy lines, a signature feature of Ocean series EVs. Equipped with NFC and Bluetooth key capabilities, as well as a smartphone app, the Seagull offers convenient access and control for users.
In terms of dimensions, the Seagull measures 3780/1715/1540 mm, with a wheelbase of 2500 mm. It has two blade battery capacity options: 30.08 kWh and 38.88 kWh. The larger battery variant provides a CLTC range of up to 405 km, although it is more likely to be around 300 km on the WLTP cycle.
The battery packs to power a single-motor drivetrain, capable of delivering up to 55 kW of power. This power output makes the Seagull agile and suitable for city driving. Comparatively, the Kia Picanto ICE car currently available in Australia, with its 1.2-liter engine producing 62 kW, is expected to have lower power due to drivetrain losses than the Seagull.
Inside the entry-level Seagull EV, a minimalistic design awaits, complemented by several physical buttons, a 7" instrument panel, and an 11.1" rotatable infotainment screen. Safety-wise, the Seagull is equipped with four airbags. Interestingly, although a configuration featuring a 75 kW motor was revealed through MIIT homologation filings, it was not officially announced.
In a testament to its popularity, the BYD Seagull City electric car received over 10,000 orders within a span of just 24 hours.

As for the Seagull - it’s awesome value for money.
If Seagull were selling in Europe, BYD would probably sell as much as all other carmakers combined. The car is extremely cute! ❤ Afordable, but no compromise on the quality! Even if it's a double price 20K, it would still win clear over the competition in the same class.

do not compare china prices with EU & US, they have like no regulations in China, to be allowed in EU & US this will cost 25k imo, we will see.

These are actually kinda cute! By the time they're brought up to U.S. safety standards and shipped here I highly doubt the price would be the same. I think they could still stay below $20,000. 🤔
Its below 90,000 RMB in China. You divide 90,000 by 7 is the US dollar. Its less than 13,000 US DOLLAR.
But I think US will tax much from this car. So when you get it, it will not the money I told you.
The price should at least double after import tariff and dealership.
At $15K it really has a chance.

I think they are going to produce a right hand drive version, but only for the UK, Japan and Thailand. Our BYD distributor (EV direct) in Oz are not planning to bring it in apparently. It could be very affordable (maybe under $30K AUD) and would probably be snapped up. I would probably buy it.

It's not for sale in Europe, so it doesn't have one, but the other BYD models (Dolphin, Seal, Atto 3) have a 5-star rating.
@@billyminer398 The reason I asked is, because for it to be on sale in Europe, it would need an NCAP rating with a lot of mandatory electronics, which would push the price a lot higher than it is when on sale in China.
I believe it is going to come to Europe, but it won't be anywhere near as cheap.
Unless it already comes with all the driving aids and other electronic gizmos.
For sure though, what Europe needs for mass adoption of the EV, is small cars like the Seagull which are more affordable than ID4s and Ionic 5's.
ID2 and Skoda Epiq coming in 2025, but the arrival of affordable smaller EVs in Europe too slow for mass market uptake.
Stellantis cars all too expensive for what they are.

Some Tesla uses BYD batteries. Toyota EVs use BYD's entire powertrain from battery to motor. BYD's blade batteries used on their own cars don't catch fire when distorted or punctured, unlike lithium batteries on other EVs.
If seagull sodium battery car launched with a sedan boot at rear might be awesome .

You know why we don't let them sell this in the US? Because we can't compete. We're all talk about capitalism and the free market until there is actually competition, then oh no, shut it down.
I wondeer how the car handles - suspension, tires, balance, ant-sway, etc.
Those roller switches are not intuitive, and those facial "tusks" are a turn-off,
