I dont have headphones, but I definitely have earbuds and bluetooth thingy, whatevers.
I'll constantly be asked why I have them in my ears if I'm not listening to anything. So I'm quite happy to see content or commentary on it 😃
Though I'm still not sure why exactly many may do it, but I do know it helps.
The only explanation I've ever been able to give (that is if I actually explain) was that it filters all the sounds in a way that I can still hear, but it's all kind of on the same level. As in I'm not hearing the sound of the fan behind me more than someone's voice. But then there are times when I unexplainable need to have one ear open to feel more "comfortable" or somethin.
But ig that's good enough, isnt it🤔

Even if you don't have diagnosable autism, there's a sizeable chunk of the population who have "broader autism phenotype," meaning that they have some traits in common with autistic people but not enough to qualify for a diagnosis, and you could always be like that.

Self-diagnosing only becomes an issue for me when people who have self-diagnosed themselves (I mean those who identify their normal level of anxiousness with having an anxiety disorder not those who simply cannot get a formal diagnosis for whatever reason) choose to act as a poster child and, worse yet, speak over those who have a diagnosis, formal or otherwise. The worst examples of negative self-diagnosing is a person who says they’re a “mental health advocate” and say that they have [insert mental health disorder here] yet only identify with the mild symptoms or romanticized versions of the disorder. Personally, I’ve had multiple people constantly tell me how they “understood” and that “I’ve been there/get [symptom] too” but as soon as my disability became an inconvenience I was told I was exaggerating. Many of those people actively tout themselves as mental health advocates on social media or in irl. It’s because of people like this who continue to push false and romanticized representations of mental health conditions, misuse necessary and helpful medical terminology, and have not lessened but rather transformed the stigma against mental health conditions and invisible disabilities.

    • @Rock4est

i once saw a tiktok of a lady, who was like a psychiatrist or therapist, that said this about self diagnosis
"if you sometimes think that you might be faking your symptoms, then youre most likely not"
and based on what ive seen and my own experience, this is so true
people who dont actually have smth tend to want to "be in the spotlight" and talk about "how bad their (mild) anxiety is; oh poor thing"
while people who prob have smth and are self diagnosed, like me, are usually not sure about their symptoms and are always searching more about and questioning
edit: plus, if youre not able at the moment to get an actual diagnosis, self diagnosis can be good to like try to understand your brain a bit more and find ways to adapt your life to help you, until you can get an actual diagnosis

Sameee. I heard stories of how when I was a little kid I would walk up to complete strangers and sit and talk with them, I wasn't afraid to confront bullies on the playground, my family practically needed a leash for me to keep me from running off and exploring...
And then I started school and moved back in with an abusive father. I still love talking to people and chatting with strangers, but now I overanalyze everything I do and say until I'm exhausted and I'm terrified of anything new. It took me until a few years ago to realize I was taught to be shy and small.
Thankfully surrounding yourself with good people can undo the damage - I shift from being a fearful introvert in a room full of strangers to bombastic and without shame surrounded by friends.

They're just things that could have happened around me based off of info I already knew. For example:
"This person tends to show off their things (not rudely at all), or things that they like. And they talked in a certain way, and they were also a visco girl with at least 3 different hydro flasks."
So I then have a "memory" of that certain person with gum in their mouth (bc they also liked gum too) saying, "Look at my new hydro flask".
So basically realistic fiction. Most memories just feel like a stage set.

This is gonna be a story, story👴✋
Yesterday evening, I was out with my family when I learned that my brother didnt know what the seasoning Sage was. Completely forgot about that in the next 3 or so minutes.
Now just keep that in mind.
The next morning, today, I woke up and did my shit and all that. Finally went down to eat some takis while watching a video, then began to head upstairs with my bowl of 5 takis left in one hand, waterbottle in the other, and my large bright red phone in between my arms (left arm).
I head into my room, straight to my AC to turn it on, I leave my room to my mother's room for a reason I can't remember bc as soon as I walked in I saw my hat that I also did not remember leaving there, so I took that and went to hang it up in my room. I turn around to see if my phone is on my bed bc I know I have a tendency to leave things, and yk what happens.
✨ _Where the hell is that phone?_ ✨
I then spent the next 2 hours looking for my phone while taking multiple pauses. We're just gonna say 2 pauses tho, and those 2 pauses were to take frustrated naps. The other pauses were laying down and staring at the wall.
During the second round of my search, I started searching in even _more_ random places that I knew had a slim chance of actually having my phone in. But I also knew that there was a larger chance of me actually have going into said places, but just not remembering. One place I searched was a small gift bag with a candle in it.
*"oOoOo~ Candle 👁 👁"* I said in a shaky voice bc I was still searching for my large, bright red phone.
I attempted to tell myself that we'd come back to the candle later, but I ended up spending the next 20min (I think. I am also bad with time) trying to light that candle and failing. I eventually went to my mother to light it, and I then went back to my room slightly content.
I then proceed to lay down again before going back to my kitchen to search.
But just as I walked into the kitchen and passed this weird pulley draw thing that held seasonings. I paused. Opened it. And started looking for the Sage while chanting its name.
*"oH- sAgE. Nice."* I said as I found it and got back up to continue.

@@multiplewormsonthesidewalk5902 oH, I actually said "LiKe fOr pArt 2" bc I couldnt type anymore.
      Either way.
What happened next was that I went back up to my room and put myself to sleep (a nap). Bc I knew at least this much about myself- that if I wanted to find my phone I would need someone else to do it, bc I most likely walked passed it a couple hundred times.
Mother finally comes in and eventually finds it in a basket right next to wear I hung my hat up.
When I tell u that I can not remember even walking in that direction with this phone. I can not.
Well I found the phone (not really)😃
And the reason why I got myself to type this entire story was in hopes to describe someone's entire life so far, at least. Hopefully it wasn't too much of a struggle to get through🛌
Feel free to share more stories, or just go on a rant on something as random as the entire lore of fnaf if ya want.

hey, has anyone here read the series gone? i haven’t read it in a while nor did i finish it, but i remember it had a nonverbal autistic kid in it and i was just wondering if it was good representation or not. thinking back on it i don’t think it was, but i’m also not autistic so it’s not for me to say. just wondering, but please don’t read it just because of this comment it’s a pretty long series.

the tiktok at 1:56 really explains a lot about “self diagnosing” really well, and how i think people make it out to be this huge issue when it’s really not. i thought i had ADHD bc of TikTok for a little under a year before i finally went through testing and turns out i don’t have it! i just have very severe anxiety, which is where all those symptoms came from. so, honestly, it’s a good thing. because i thought i was stupid for the longest time but it was just my anxiety.

None of the things said in this video are actually used to diagnose adhd, AT ALL. Taking adhd meds when you have bipolar, or certain other conditions can be VERY dangerous. 19:20 this one, just this one. ive never been tested for anything my whole life and i have many many symptoms of ADHD and BPD, and when i asked my mom if i could possibly be tested for ADHD she told me that i was just trying to be special and that i couldnt have ADHD because im "too smart". im constantly telling myself im being dramatic and i think ive acctually started to believe that i am just wanting to be special. there is so much i wish i could tell people about me and what i experience on a day to day but i worry that people will look at me and say youre just wanting to be special or want attention but i dont. id rather be alone then to have everyone accusing me of that. im not sure if i will ever get a diagnosis

The making eye contact thing for me is a weird one. Cause I've been trained my whole life to look at someone when their talking to me, so I've developed into being able to hold that eye contact. However! Whenever I start talking, especially for more than a sentence or a couple of words, that's when I can't look people in the eye. It's so hard and I won't be able to process what I'm saying if I am looking at someone while talking, OR! my vision starts to go weird/trippy. I have noticed that I do lose some pieces of conversation when someone is talking to me, but I don't know if that's because some of my focus is going into keeping eye contact or because of my comprehension problem.

It feels like the emotional equivalent of seeing a guy on a bus and realizing a year ago he was the one who punched you in the gut and stole all your doubloons.
