  • The Killing is a 1956 film noir heist movie directed by Stanley Kubrick. The Killing features everything from robbery, conspiracy, romance, betrayal, violence, murder, clown masks, and small dogs that ruin everything. This movie didn't make too much money on its initial release but became highly influential on other crime and heist movies in the following decades like The Dark Knight and Reservoir Dogs.

"The Killing" IS a great movie! Thanks for covering it. I noted the narration part wasn't Kubrick's idea; he hated it! The studio forced it upon him because they were concerned that the movie was too confusing for audiences to follow without it.

For 1956 its pretty progressive to have the whole interaction with the security guy and the sniper guy...portraying it the way they did, I'm sure they got a lot of flack for painting the black guy as a good guy.

I hadn't thought about that until you mentioned it here but yeah that's interesting to think about.

The fight at the track seems like a little comic relief, as the character was actually a professional wrestler (and well-known chess player). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kola_Kwariani. His cauliflower ear was no fake, as shown in the scene at the chess club.
