Great video. When I was learning the punch shot (and I had to hit a LOT of 'em), I was inadvertently also learning a lot about ball position, strike, hitting ball first, hands in front of the ball - all kinds of stuff. Some rounds the best contact I made all day would be on one of those little 70-yard punches.
Agreed, hittin punchy shots made me a better iron player, now when all my buddies are getting caught into the wind on par 3's I can pull out the old faithful and keep it low
My fav punch shot is the chippy 5 iron. Stays low and runs out, usually totals about 100 yards. Perfect for getting back onto the fairway whilst advancing it somewhat
Practice your punch shot playas. Don't overshoot the fairway on your recovery shot. Don't compound mistakes. Get back in play in the best possible position, not end up with another shot out of the rough.
Hi Bruce I often over shoot my punch shots going from one side of fairway to other side of fairway frustrating. Usually use 5ir to keep it low. Yesterday hit punch softer didn’t make it all all the way out of rough had only one tree in way to the green. Hit second punch shot ended up 20 feet from green. Then almost chip in for par. What club do you use for punch shots? Any suggestions Playa
@@scotbaxter1579 I pick loft based on what I'm hitting out from. I've started choking down a bit on the grip to get more control and hit a chip style shot. I used to hit it through often but realised I don't need to hit it nearly as hard. Practicing the shot at the range helps.

Exactly. So many opportunities to learn.

Great advice, Chief Playa!

what Bangkhok course(s) do you usually play?? great videos.
Don’t play much in Bangkok
Too crowded
I hit punches from the middle of the fairway sometimes.
When things aren’t going to plan, this is essential!

Well done Bruce i love it
I’ll add my tip, once you learn it with an iron, learn to punch a fairway wood and/hybrid. Da nah, 150 yard putt
Like that
The American accent was on point lol
Yeehaw
OMG.. I was totally thinking a Tin Cup style cart path shot when Sidekick read my very predictable mind. lol .. so embarrassed.
