If you are in the woods a) the ball is in the rough, and b) more often than not you got backswing issues. Try showing a punch with a shorter club and a half backswing, rather than the 3 iron full backswing shot. Punch outs from the woods a lot of the time only need to get you into the fairway 60-70 yards and not across into the woods on the other side, ala 3 iron. Just sayin’.
never forward shaft lean? now i question your credibility.
For the average player this concept will kill your game.
Thanks Matt! I’ve been working on this with my 6i and have a super good 100 yard low punch. Only problem I have had with it early on was keeping it really straight. Loved your tip on where the shoulder and chin meet. That will be my trigger from now on. Shallow with the abbreviated turn really keeps the spin down and ejects the ball on target.
Such a valuable shot to have working on it right now...ive got the general motion and strike but overdraws or hooks a lot of the time and if I try to open face a little it goes too high...

Tiger woods says hands pass ball before club head to hit his signature stinger. Love the videos but this was questionable
That greens keeper must be rolling his eyes with him taking chunks out of the green 😂... side note love the use of the Lamkin sonar grip! Lamkin needs more attention. Not only do they look superior to the golf pride they perform better too! Also I use a 4i for the punch shot I find the little bit extra loft and shorter club yields better results also no 3i in the bag 😂
That's a tee box not a green.
The forward press / hands forward style of low shots will ultimately get you in trouble and could lead to a shank. You can it it low by backing the ball up a little and keeping the swing short and shallow. Shallow will be your best friend in golf.

You are hitting a punch shot, not a stinger. Still it's a great shot to have but if you're looking to hit that sweet fairway finding stinger I suggest checking out Zac Radford.
Love your vids man, you keep it simple and your advice is sound. This swing is great in windy conditions too. Boom!

Its an easy swing once you get it and feels like butter with the compression...I honestly just hit it most of the time...you don't even have to swing that hard

Thanks Matt, Another fine video. Practice this, pretty much on every range session. Easy enough to learn cut or hook the shoot as needed. Also feel this can be a low risk recovery shoot as it is very controllable. I can usually drive the ball pretty long. Unfortunately, sometimes it wants to fly crooked. This shoot can really save your bacon.

Good stuff, I’ve been choking down more, playing the ball backa little and a shorter quicker swing with an extra club. I’ll try sneaking up slowly to your technique and see what happens.
Hey, can you make a video on an easy tip for hitting a draw... I'm a 7 hdcp and absolutely struggle hitting a draw.... I've tried tons of different tips nothings very successful...
> tried standing normal and following through high (this created a pull draw which isn't effective)
> tied closing the stance and swinging along the body; I have a hard time swinging along the body (this creates a pull hook or I hit it dead straight, very inconsistent)

Thanks for that video. Say, played a 6 handicap golfer in my local league and he landed left of the fairway in second cut about 120 yard from the green. This guy hit a low shot onto the green and when it landed it checked up and stopped on the green. Can you do a video on how to hit a low (6’ at apex) 120 yr shot with back spin?
great video. the longest iron in my bag is a 6 iron. i use hybrids for 4 & 5. when i used to carry a 4 iron, that was my punch shot. my problem with your comment of no hands forward is that i need to deloft. i mean, most of my punch shots are getting our of trees here in florida, and the branches are low. so i need the ball to stay down low. like under five feet as it leaves the woods, or less. but a six iron in the middle of my stance might elevate the ball too much, especially if i keep my hands in the center. any suggestion?

I don't usually carry a long iron because I have a single length set I made and when you get lower than 30 degrees in loft low shots are all they are good for. I use my 13 degree strong 3 wood for punch shots. Unless you are in the fairway and trying to stay down to avoid the wind a long iron is a much harder club to use. When trying to get out of or through the trees you are usually in deeper grass which makes a wood a better choice than a long iron. Unless you have an aversion to woods they are even a higher percentage shot from the fairway in the wind at least this comment is my experience and opinion. It would be nice if you could do a video on using a 3 wood to get out of the woods and low stingers in the fairway.

If you have the ball back then it creates backspin and the ball actually goes higher

Are you hitting off the tee box? Should have hit out of the rough which is where the ball will end up if hitting out of the trees or trouble.
Yeah I agree. The low punch shot is when you are under the tree canopy. The tips were fine, but the video should have been shot under the trees. From where MSG was, he would just hit over those little trees. Just keepin it real with my comment.
