I was always putting the ball back in my stance and then topping the ball when I swung. Yesterday. I punched out under 3 trees with a 4 hybrid using a smooth swing. The ball was low and hit it a long way. This was sublime.
The low punch shot under trees has always been a problem for me. Can't wait to get out there and try this. Thanks Monte and Brendon!
I agree with this. Only time I'd put the ball back is if I need some serious spin with a low flight. On flighted short irons especially I only cut down on swing length and power. The punch shot is a low spin shot, and with longer irons produces a stinger. Good stuff here.
Hey folks what about the high shot then what setup do you suggest in this scenario and there's enough room to hit over ?

This works! I need this shot (unfortunately). Seems counterintuitive, but I used to put the ball back and try and hit low, but it always seems to go higher (or right) and hit the tree. Not anymore. Thanks Brendon!!

Great to see Monty on channel again - he is dead right on the 3 bad shots that stack against against a decent score. Learning punch shots is really more than half way to hitting good iron shots - great work on this to both of you.
A perennial problem of mine, can't wait to try this. The ball back and chop down just doesn't work for me!

interesting video. low punch shot for me has always been ball back in stance, short backswing, 80% swing effort and short follow thru. but im describing more of a punch out of trees or low ball into the wind. I don't hit stingers off the tee.
