    In the Northeast US, courses sometimes have deep rough within a few feet of the green that swallows up balls… unlike the fluffy, short dense pile carpets I see in most of these videos. 60 or 64 degree wedges are great for plucking out of deep rough adjacent to greens. Also, good for blading golf balls straight through my neighbor’s basement window when I miss hit it.

    Hi Matty, I love what you say about the 58 and 60 deg wedges regarding strike. Even using my 55deg sand wedge, if I strike a ball too high on the face with 80% or more strength swing, the spin rate goes through the roof and my ball pulls itself down out of the air, always lands short, then spins backwards. I hate that shot. Can't imagine using a 60 deg. Admittedly I'm an 18 handicapper, but I won't be for much longer.

    Simple yet one of the best videos on this matter I have seen. Was hitting it around 110-112 mph. Started focusing being more loose and getting the "whip" lower on the downswing. Jumped up to 116-118 first session. Working on getting stronger and more flexible as well so hoping I can get 120+ before the spring. Thanks mate.

    Adding a Cleveland Gap wedge made me an approach Beast. Nails distance and the spin lands the ball on the greens like glue.

    If you don’t know what range you hit with a 7i then just say that. It’s not inconsistencies with the iron, it’s with the swinger. There’s no way you have a 20 yard difference if you use the same tempo swing.

    I live in a senior community, the courses here have six tees, so the courses play anywhere from 3000 to 7000 yards. I and most of my old fart buddies play from the 5500 or 6000 yard set. A top drive of 190 allows me to break 90 on the days when my short game is more or less "on." Keys: Keep your drives in play! Avoid OB and water.

  • @maxsmart8954
    @maxsmart8954 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The average golfer needs one wedge. Our games are not dialed to worry about a 10 yard gap. I 56 deg 12 bounce and works out great. Sometimes less is more.

    • @aemk6129
      @aemk6129 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ridiculous assessment… an “average golfer” needs to drain putts… wedges get you closer than your 6, 8, or 9 iron (for example). Average golfers should carry less long irons and more wedges. Oh, and practice putting… only club you use on every hole.

    • @maxsmart8954
      @maxsmart8954 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ you may have comprehension problems I never mentioned putter. My point is average golfers who struggle to break 95 (probably higher is average) don’t have the ability, time , to practice and perfect a 3 or 4 wedge system.

    • @aemk6129
      @aemk6129 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@maxsmart8954 Comprehension problem… no. You missed the point. Scoring clubs are 150yd and in… the more accurate, the closer to pin, the higher percentage of draining putts. More wedges, more gaps filled… keep up.

    • @maxsmart8954
      @maxsmart8954 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@aemk6129 not my point. i believe you responded to my comment. you have your point right? i respect your point which has nothing to do with mine.

    • @aemk6129
      @aemk6129 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@maxsmart8954 Exactly the point. You said one wedge… I’m saying (which this video lays out in plain English) is that wedges are “scoring” clubs. The closer to the greens you get, the tools matter. You will get closer to the hole with multiple options around the greens, than you will with approach shots and one wedge as an “average golfer”. Perhaps you missed it… and that’s what makes you average. No use arguing with you… Mark Twain certainly had people like you in mind when he said “never argue with an idiot, they’ll bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience”…

    I am a high handicapper and I use my 60 on almost every hole. The only time i use my 56 is when I need to bump and run or I can full swing from 80 yards out.I dont really miss hit my wedges. Any time I am not on in regulation, its because of a bad drive or bad iron shot. Thinking about it...maybe I need to ditch my chunky irons for blades 😂.

    Pros don’t use a lob wedge for loft. They use it so they can open it up and keep the ball on the grooves longer to create spin. That is why most use a 60 with low bounce and grind more off. They want to be able to slide under the ball to get it to stop on firm and fast greens.
