    Great job on performing in my opinion, the Greatest Bass Line of all time. The spacing of the notes and the timeing of playing them, is what makes this bass line stand out of all other's, especially since it was written back in the early 70's.

    What the hell could 87 people POSSIBLY dislike about this video? You're not using a '62 P-Bass with a rosewood fretboard? You're using 2 fingers instead of 1? You're not plugged into an Ampeg B-15?
    This is one the best covers I've ever seen and heard. The tone is JUICY, your phrasing and groove is on point. Ignore the haters. They're stupid.

    This is such a CLASSIC BASS LINE!!! A real true Bass affectionado WILL ALWAYS appreciate this groove! I put this in the same category of that CLASSIC GUITAR LINE ' My girl ' by The Temptations!!! James Jamerson and Guitarist Robert White were soooooo underrated 😳 👌!

    Great mix, and great cover.
    One of my all time favorites to play. It took me months to learn how to play this Jamerson style - with one finger. They called him the hook. His bass lines were melodies, an amazing talent. May he RIP.

    Three things I haven’t notices until now: 1. A vast frequency range; lot of high notes without sounding thin. 2. How he keeps it more simple when Marvin sings as to create more space for the vocals. 3. The instrumental part is actually the most monotonous 😲 which is the place many would play more intensely. Cool video

    This video with the two different sections helps me a lot to get this one into my fingers. It's a different thing to play along without the orignal bass pumping in the background and being on your own. Practicing Jamerson's lines is never boring. Thankyou for your effort!

      @@basscommunity Welcome. I use the book "Motown Bass Classics" published by Hal Leonard. It contains 21 Songs (including this one) with notes, tabs and lyrics (helpful to find your way through some of the rhythmically difficult parts). Too bad there is nothing of the Jacksons in it. There's probably a copyright issue, but I can still warmly recommend it to anyone wanting to learn the Jamerson stuff. It can be found on the big A.

    • @basscommunity
      @basscommunity  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @RackwitzG I have the classic "standing in the shadows of motown", but I systematically find inaccuracies in the published transcriptions, so I prefer to do them on my own. Moreover it is an excellent exercise for the ear ;-)

    • @RackwitzG
      @RackwitzG 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@basscommunity I guess that one is a musthave but I've read that the transcriptions are without tabs - and as you've said, they are said to be inacurate. I may start to read one day, but tabs are so much easier and you easily find almost everything in tabs. I'm still a beginner and want to enjoy myself for the time being. Maybe later. :-)

    That part before the third verse, on the B, really nice work there, the whole thing is pretty great, nice to see this visualized; I've only recently been exploring doing more playing in the 1-5 fret area on the D and G, and this is a great visual guide to doing that. Thanks for taking the time to put this together!

    • @basscommunity
      @basscommunity  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right! Remember: Jamerson comes from Double Bass, so his left hand was almost everytime there (1-5 fret area) going on the rest of the neck when needed. Thanks for comment and have a good practice!

    • @metallicarocks911
      @metallicarocks911 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It appears that he is playing in the key of B dominant 7 (Essentially a major scale with a minor 7) with a lot of chromatic movement within that key. If you ever take the time to study Jamerson's work and transcriptions, you'll find that it is very typical of how he plays. You should take a look at 'For Once In My Life' by Stevie Wonder... I managed to learn that bass line, but it took me MONTHS to learn it, due to how intricate it is. Jamerson's work is a good source on how to expand your bass playing, and to become a great bass player too.
      Fun fact: Marvin Gaye liked his work so much, that he wanted to find him to play on THIS track, and went to many bars/nightclubs to find him. He finally stumbled across an inebriated Jamerson (Of which became his demise sometime later, due to cirrhosis of the liver and complications of pneumonia), of which he was too intoxicated to sit up straight, while recording. So instead, they layed him on his back, and he played this drunk, while laying on his back... Hahahahahaha!

      I think it's due to the fact that most people that like to learn songs like this are most of the time beginners and they can't read notes. If you've added Bass tabs at the bottom it would have made a difference and everybody would be happy.
