    So many people believe this is the late great JJ, it's not, it's the late great Bob Babbit, who replicates what JJ MiGHT have played on this specific track. Kudos to them both.

    • @ULTIMATEPATCHES
      @ULTIMATEPATCHES หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      What? Give Bob some credit here! He's no automaton. Bob is not replicating here, he created the bassline from his own mind and creativity. Jamerson's take would have been much busier - however Bob laid down a delicious deep solid groove with little extraneous noodling, which is why it's one of the most memorable on the album.

      Hi Mauro, thanks a lot for the compliments! I use the original recordings in multitrack format (found on Internet). I transcribe carefully the original bass track, and replay it, making a new mix and mastering of the song. The vocals are superb simply because they are the original ones :)

      I've been working (non-professionally) with audio for years and don't know of a way to extract vocals the way you're able to. Wow! Pretty slick trick, Fabio. Anyway, I truly enjoy seeing the images at the beginning of the video, the way you use transitions, the camera angles you choose, etc, etc, etc! Do you have any videos that show your left hand the way you see it while playing? This would be awesome when trying to play along because I would see your hand in exactly the same position as I would see mine when trying to learn the song. Just a thought. Ciao, ciao! Mauro

    Babbitt’s work on Scorpio n son of Scorpio didn’t groove at all. It’s hard to believe he write this. Sounds of The Legendary James Jamerson. It’s too sophisticated for Babbit. Some else must have wrote it n Babbit just played it.

    • @ckrein414
      @ckrein414 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do your research. Producer Dave Petite (spelling?) asked Babbitt to compose the bass line. Bass player mag named Babbitt as one of the greatest 100 bass players in r&r history. also, check this excerpt from No Treble, Bass Players to Know:As a pocket player, you’d be hard pressed to find an example greater than Babbitt. He had the uncanny ability to create bass “hooks” or concise and funky lines that act as the pulse of the song. On tunes such as “Cool Jerk,” Babbitt settled into an iconic line that locks in with the drums and percussion to create an irresistibly danceable groove. He masterfully integrated rhythmic variation while maintaining the integrity and feel of the song. Babbitt didn’t always play by the traditional “rules” of bass playing (aka, hitting on the downbeats), but instead added to the rhythmic complexity of the song by anticipating, pushing, or playing a dead note on beat one. Many of his Motown and soul recordings (think “Mercy Mercy Me”) featured bass lines that rely on a specific and syncopated rhythmic pattern.Harmonically, Babbitt understood how and when to implement variation. When it was time to pedal the root, he pedaled the root. When the bass groove stays in one place while other instruments change parts, his handle on the hook was unyielding. If he had an opportunity to stretch out, he demonstrated a keen knowledge of voice leading and melody.

    • @lpjunction
      @lpjunction 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, Babbitt is nobody.
      I am sure you can put out a bass line to make him humble. Right? And load it on YT any day now.
      While you have some free time while preparing your video for our enjoyment. You might take a look
      here: www.bobbabbitt.com/about.htm
      Just quote the first few lines in case you're busy.
      “WHO IS BOB BABBITT
      AND HOW DID HE GET ALL THOSE GOLD RECORDS?”
      By Allan (Dr.Licks) Slutsky
      The second part of this question is easy to answer. Bob earned his 25 Gold and platinum records by playing his ass off on over 200 top 40 hits. The first part of the question, well that requires a bit more explanation.
