Motown wouldn't have been motown if it wasn't for James Jamerson and the Funk brothers.

And one of the worst travesties was that he was not invited to the Motown 25 special in 1983, the night that Michael Jackson electrified the world with the famous "Moonwalk." My understanding is that he was there, but that he had not been invited as part of the Motown family--I don't know if tickets were sold to be in the studio audience at that event but if he had had to buy one it's a disgrace! I don't know all the details, and it might be that at that stage of his life he might have not been in any condition to be up there on the stage, but not to be invited to be there with the rest of them when he was such a part of making Motown what it became--it's just not right.

Sound like Fairchild 670s or something had a serious crush on them smooth basslines. Them recording, mixing, and mastering engineers had dynamic play in this Motown bass formula...Not taking anything away from my Funk Brothers. This music is some of my best healing medicine when my soul gets down and out. I appreciate it so much more each day.

Black musicians are the most unfairly
    underrated musicians of all time!
All the greats, including Elvis, Beatles, Cream,

blues and jazz played by majority of black musicians.
But, they never got the credit they deserved.
