Plant has said that the first time he thought the band might become really big was during one of the first, if not the first, times they played in Boston. They were doing this song, and Plant was singing with his eyes closed. He felt a nudge, and looked up to see Page pointing at the audience. The entire first row, mostly male, were banging their heads against the edge of the stage in time to the beat of the song...Heh...

All 4 of the lads on full display here. The breaks and drop ins on cue perfectly, their ability to play songs like this are a prime example of how individualy they're all amazing musicians but together they were *EPIC* . For me it's the drums and bass in this one. God tier. Worth mentioning the lyrics are an old blues tune from howlin wolf "how many more years " . The hunter is an Albert King and booker t tune. They loved the old blues players of early 1900s America on to the 60s. Imo they pay homage. Some go as far as saying appropriation. But cmon, the music proves to me they loved the source material. Then did it in their own way. It's still largely original.

My two-years-older brother is a great ("retired") drummer, and back in high school days I would risk annoying him while he was downstairs practicing by asking that he play the "Oh Rosie drum part" just one more time, pleeeaasse! And then I'd just stand there bopping along with a goofy-ass smile on my face, lol! I suspect he secretly liked my requesting it, heh.

Led Zeppelin was a continuation of an earlier band: The Yardbirds.
The Yardbirds were the premier South London Blues Rock band in the early 60s. They gained a big rep in the clubs with their hard electric blues & & really got attention with their second lead guitarist Eric Clapton.
Fans actually sprayed graffiti everywhere saying “Clapton is God.”
They got a recording contract but the company wanted more pop rock for their singles. They cooperated and had big hits, but Clapton left wanting to do just the blues. He ended up eventually in Cream.
    CREAM! CREAM! CREAM!
The band knew they needed a top notch blues guitarist to replace a God. The most renown guitarist was the best session guitarist in England, in demand by everyone. A wunderkind. Jimmy Page.
He turned them down. He didn’t want to be in a band. He wanted the freedom & creativity of being a studio musician.
But he recommended another studio wunderkind just starting out, so not as renown as Page.
So they added Jeff Beck. People debate which of the big three was the best & a lot will say it was Beck. He lead the Yardbirds into heavier music and into Psychedelic Acid Rock.
By 1966 the band was enormous both in popularity and influence. Bu then Page was ready to be in a band. Bands make $$, studio session players get a small stipend and no royalties.
At a concert he attended, at the last minute their bassist suddenly quit. Page joined the band immediately & played bass. But he said he’d only do that until the current rhythm guitarist learned the bass. Then Page switch back to guitar.
The Yardbirds had two genius lead guitarists!
They recorded with a studio musician playing bass instead of their member. This session player was another in demand musician considered a genius, not just on bass but sorts of keyboards and arranging. His name was John Paul Jones.
In 1967 Beck left and formed his own band. He recruited blues veterans Rod Stewart, vocals, & Romnie Wood, guitar. Stewart later was a big star. Wood eventually joined the Rolling Stones. Stewart had a raw & rough voice that also was golden and he was super sexy.
Page noticed. Now he was the only guitarist in the Yardbirds and dominated the band. This is when Dazed & Confused became an epic of their set.
They also got a new manager- Peter Grant, who managed them like he was as much a rockstar as them.
Then the other three members quit. But the band had touring contracts to fill. So Page & Grant got busy rebuilding the band. First was to recruit John Paul Jones.
Page wanted another Rod Stewart, he wanted to outdo Beck.
He heard there was an unknown blues singer only 18 up in Birmingham. Page was so blown away by this kid he feared he must have mental problems as the only explanation he wasn’t already a big star. After spending time with Robert Plant, he was convinced he was stable & recruited him.
But Plant said his drummer had to come with him. John Bonham had been in several bsndd with Plant and Plant had insisted before Bonham join his bands. After auditioning him, Page realized he had found another Keith Moon (The Who) or Ginger Baker (Cream)
After touring as the New Yardbirds they changed their name to Led Zeppelin.
Check out these other blues bands connected to Led Zeppelin: The Yardbirds, The Jeff Beck Group, & Cream. You will not be disappointed.

If it were possible for a song to be a force of nature, that was it. Taking their cue from Howlin' Wolf and building the entire song out of a single, bluesy, repetitive riff. The more the riff goes on the more mesmerising it becomes.
Your reaction did it justice too, man. Brilliant stuff.

I could be completely wrong here, Mark. But I finally watched a couple of your rap reactions… and what struck me was that you were much more low-key… less animated. I thought about it, because I didn’t expect it. And then I watched your first exposure to classic rock with Pink Floyd…and the goosebumps. And I thought: Perhaps this music allows you to be even more “yourself”…. Allows you to be “freer” … deeper emotional
Level, whereas the rap is more cerebral? Does that make any sense? Or am I just imagining things? After all, I just joined with PF: I haven’t been around you for ages like others have. If I’m right, then I am SO HAPPY that you found this music!

This song has always been in my top 5 Zep offerings. In no particular order: How Many More Times [for the bass alone]; When the Levee Breaks [Bonzo's drumming, what else!]; Gallows Pole [hypnotic build up]; Rock & Roll [the energy captures everyone]; Kashmir [that exotic riff]. Just my take, other songs may slip in sometimes depends on my mood.

It's okay to refer to Led Zeppelin as a single person -- these guys were so much in sync, they ay as well have been.
So, getting a sense of some of the themes you like, I have a few suggestions:
"Never Surrender" and "Fight The Good Fight" by Triumph. While you're at it, check out "Lay It On the Line," too.
"Shining Star" and "Serpentine Fire" by Earth, Wind, & Fire. They're a R&B/Funk band, and you can really hit any of their tunes and fall in love with them.

You need to do a reaction to ‘The Song Remains the Same’ video they made about their music and journey filming certain songs during certain concerts and following the band behind the scenes. Was amazing and explains a lot about musical instruments and influences and when the band ended due to John Bondham’s death (on my second birthday September 25, 1980). This band was the first to touch my soul, so much in fact I have two tattoos of them on me.

This was recorded and paid for by the band before they had a contract tho of course page was a known quantity as a guitar star by then. But still, can you IMAGINE being Ahmet ertegun at Atlantic records hearing this? Rolling stone actually hated the album tho melody maker loved it, and it sold well immediately, but Ertegun was a genius in his own right and he had to know, holy crap this is special.

I was thoroughly enjoying this as I always do ALL of your vids!!! Not planning on commenting … because … well, there’s a lot more of them now and I don’t blame you at all for not being able to keep up anymore 💯 (that’s a GOOD problem to have!!!) anyhow, watching, enjoying and laughing with you … then you go and say that ish at the end!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 your “number” goes from “maybe 2” prior to experiencing the song, to “maybe 4” after 😂😂😂 And while I’m down for a BrainSqueeze garden party I would not want to be #4!!!! 😂😂😂 Or any number for goodness sakes!!! I’m old enough to be your mother!!! 😳🤦‍♀️😂😂😂
Love ya fam!!! Keep going and growing!!! I see a studio in your future 😉✨🖤

    Jimi Hendrix; Are You Experienced?
    Ted Nugent; Stranglehold
    Aerosmith: Sweet Emotion
Pink Floyd; High Hopes (Live Pulse)
    Rolling Stones; Gimme Shelter
Led Zeppelin; Trampled Underfoot or In My Time of Dying
Elton John; Yellowbrick Road ( because you love good voices and lyrics)
Metallica; Enter Sandman, live from Moscow (1.6 million people)
    Bob Seger; Night Moves
Queen; somebody to Love (live Montreal)
Tool; The Pot (this will kill you)
The live ones I’ve mentioned will not be blocked.
