The only ex BDO players that make the switch are the ones that are any good. The difference between the PDC & the BDO is that with the PDC you can make a career with darts but the BDO is more for those who treat darts as a part time job or just a hobby there simply isn't enough televised events on the BDO circuit to earn a living.
Have to laugh at all these dolts on here pontificating about "greed". If a rival company offered you the same job with double your current salary, better conditions etc, of course you'd all turn it down.
I back the PDC all the way.If it wasnt for the players being brave and starting up there own organisation and getting the product worldwide and staring many televised evenets i dread to think where darts would be at now.Olly croft didnt do enough for the players he wasnt moving the game forward. the documentary about the split in darts showed how stubborn croft was as a person.The game of darts is massive now thanks to the bravery of those players and the leadership of mr Barry Hearn.

I know Martin Adams has done a fair bit for darts in the last few years, and I hope that, now he's on the BDO board, improvements in darts can be mad i.e more TV coverage of the Lakeside, and also may include a couple of other Majors. But for me, if I was invited to the Grand Slam, I'd snap it up...not necesarily for financial gai, but to gain that bit more experience.
@mpw180 yeah thats true but the BBC coverage this year has been quite small..found out that the BBC had sold most of the full matchs to ESPM (I think thats what they are called) and only have viewing rights until 2013 :( does this mean we lose darts on BBC..which really sucks....and I don't have SKY :(

@marky437 That they are. The majority of the players are switching because of the mega bucks on offer, and thats why they switch. If it was me, I would rather play darts than get paid millions. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with earning money, because we all have to. But my point is, if you're doing something just for the sake of the money, and not getting any enjoyment out of what you're doing, why do it?
@mpw180 Ted Hankey announced yesterday that He's leaving BDO for PDC. I agree playing Darts for enjoyment and get reconition in the sport....I mean look at Martin Adams he's done a lot for the sport as well as a few others.....and he's so far declined PDC Offers and I hope he continues to do so......It's just greed but then again there is a financial insentive involved esp with the finanial situation at the mo....shame really.

But all I'm saying is money isn't everything. Fair enough, we have to earn in order to make our way in life, that's fine, i can understand that....but, not everyone want to have a load of wealth to be happy.

After the WDC (PDC) split from the official governing body they declared their own competition as the worlds, yet the official one continued to be played at the Lakeside.The PDC has the better overall standard today given their ability to lure top BDO players with the huge prize money on offer, nonetheless the BDO world championship has been going on since 1978. It remains a prestigious title.
Some would. Look at RvB, he has switched to the PDC in 2006 and almost immideatly got a wild card for the PL. Mark Webster, Simon Whitlock & Gary Anderson all have switched in 2009, Whitlock was invited in following year in 2010, Webster & Anderson in 2011 and Anderson won that year and again in 2015 and remains ever present since then. Mervyn King has switched in 2007 and reached the final in 2009 beating Taylor on a way. Bunting won WC in 2014 and in the next year was invited. And also Robert Thornton & Dave Chisnall. That shows what some BDO great players are switching to the PDC, but BDO gets new ones every year to come.
@@111david9 The Premier League is really just a glorified exhibition tournament where players often get picked for reasons other than merit. Fallon Sherrock is in this year for PC reasons. Barney was in every year despite not earning his place based on recent form. Plus there's a certain novelty value in having a recent BDO champ in there.
