I think it was a TV report by Bobby at Lakeside a few years back where he showed how dartboards are made. I always wondered what those veins or cracks were. It's all those biscuits put into a dartboard jig then squashed together. I love being educated. Bobby's an educator. Bobby's a legend.

I met Bobby when he was doing a signing down my local, hes such a genuine, straight talking, top bloke.
I met him when he was doing a signing down my local too. He stank of whisky and was really rude to people. He demanded a cheese sandwich from the elderly lady who had volunteered her services free of charge and then sent it back saying it was awful. He played 1 exhibition game and repeatedly mocked the gentleman doing the scoring because he was a bit slow. He then spent the evening poncing free drinks off people who had paid £25 for supper and exhibition tournamnent. After bragging all evening about his cars, his castle and how he despised the sport and was only in it for free money, he left us in an embarrassingly quiet, empty and disappointed bar.

Probably would have won a world title or 2 if it weren't for Bristow or even Wilson.
His knowledge about dart boards is brilliant and so true. You can buy different brand boards for anywhere between £30-£80 and they'll look near enough the same quality out of the box, but no board has the durability of a Winmau Blade 5. The Unicorn Eclipse Pro 2 (PDC standard board) is brilliant but the harder surface means more bounceouts. So players resort to points with ridges in them which ruin the boards by ripping the sisel out. I personally think only smooth points should be allowed in the professional game!

Yes thats true. My brother in law is in accountancy practice in London....and he privately confirmed this as a financial fact - and a fact that astonished everyone as Bobby George didnt employ an agent; he negotiated deals with only him and his manager present.

Watching the bdo here on euro sport, it’s like an episode of Phoenix nights! Peter Kay would really liven it up. Deta hedman threw a 35 dart leg last night! It’s a liberty to call this world championship. It’s amateur at best. Leaving the lakeside was suicidal

I have used winmau blade 4 and then tried the unicorn eclipse hd. I quickly went back to the blade 5 board. They last longer and are a much sturdier boards. And yes the new points are tearing the boards up

Under Ground no relation have played him as well he was and still is super star of darts. I was one of three people that ran south London back in seventies played in lots of competitions against the good players of that time some good memories

The standard of the BDO to the PDC is embarrassing. The atmosphere is none existent, you could be sat at the back in the lakeside, have a sip of your pint and the score caller screams "BEST OF ORDER PLEASE!!! THANK YOU!!."
I always used to wonder why there were so many bounce outs at the lakeside and only the other day found out the beds on the winmaus are smaller and the rims are thicker in the bdo they seem to have it all backwards the lakeside looked like it needed a refurb back in 2007 😆 and you’re right there’s no atmosphere no surprise they’ve not sold many tickets this year

BDO is so out of date. the rubbish tournament that's been on eurosport this week was a total farce. Venue almost empty the walk ons crap and just one caller on stage with no checkers. No exciting matches very dull to watch. My advice leave the darts to the PDC they know how to do it.

Silly taking it away from the Lakeside, as much as the BDO standards have slipped over recent years the Worlds were still respected and still had a bit of magic about it just because of the sheer tradition of Lakeside, the BDO being the BDO but fucked up the only thing it had going for it and I don't think it will be long until it folds in all honesty.

@Smithjohno142 Smith I doubt it, I remember darts bouncing out the rock hard wooden bullseye if they weren't sharp, I bought one of those boards from Woolworths in the mid 1970s when I was 10, they were made of a continuous roll of tightly spiraled paper, we pinned ours to the garden fence but it got left out in the rain and got warped out of shape, we stood on it to try and flatten it but it sprung out everywhere lol .

I saw Bobby George in a supermarket in Essex yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn't want to be a idiot and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen cans of beer in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the cans and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
