I can see what he's saying as if you were PDC and lost out to a BDO invite in a PDC event you obviously wouldn't be happy. The only problem is that it's coming from Wade, and after losing that final to Waites in that fashion, it seems like sour grapes.
So stupid that a BDO player (Scott Waites) won the event before yourself and Gary Anderson, the 2 players I've heard complain about the BDO players

People are totally misunderstanding his point.
It is about "inviting" BDO players to an event and giving it ranking points.
If was unranked then it would not have been an issue.
He has been at every single one himself , and was simply standing up for some of the PDC players whom he believes have unfairly missed out since it became ranked in 2015.
I thougt it became ranked in 2013? I thought barney won the last non ranking event
Hard to get on board with him here, considering his capitulation against Scott Waites. I loved it when Ted Hankey played and the crowd got on his back. For me he was the best 'villain' in darts. Totally agree though with his comment about more characterful venues 😎.
BDO players were the only thing making this tournament interesting.

I actually agree with this. Not for their ability in most cases but you saw different faces and characters. And sometimes they pulled off good wins. PDC is undoubtedly the standard bearer but how many times you wanna see Michael Smith vs. Peter Wright every week before you get bored.
@@swboxing that's the way it is though there at the top earned it ..if yeh get bored watch BDO or the guy spent loads of cash traveling away from family doing he's job then getting kick in teeth BDO player nicked yeh spot just for being ugly haha 😂
I think James was correct about removing this tournament from rankings, but having BDO players was fine

James Wade is not the sharpest tool in the box.
James was right in that making the tournament a PDC ranking event whilst having non-PDC players in it was ridiculous. Now that the BDO is gone, the Grand Slam is totally pointless and should be scrapped.

I imagine it hurt him more than most since only BDO player to win GSOD beat home in the final from 8-0 down... Maybe that also influenced his stance?

Wade is wrong here. The two codes is what made this tournament interesting. It’s just another PDC major now with very little to differentiate it from any other major. The group stage is still an interesting factor but the threat of being beaten by a BDO player was always an interesting thing to watch. This is probably why Wade is saying these things, because he got handed his arse by Scott Waites in the final many years ago.
BDO never competed in the last few years. It's a crap organisation, crap owners, crap players and crap prize money.
@@curtisbissitt5910 - I 100% agree, what it became was an utter farce and the way they treated their players during their last world championships was nothing less than a disgrace! However, the rivalry during the Grand Slam was wonderful and I always enjoyed it.

The headline arguably a bit misleading as when you get to the 3rd minute, he makes a reasonable point to be fair about oy contributing to ranking points.
