I liked it too. It was actually a pretty cool plot twist. And it made sense. The Protheans that had been indoctrinated had been modified through cloning, cybernetics, and genetic engineering to become truly unthinking puppets that would be used by the Reapers to monitor the Galaxy following the Protheans fall. My only issue with the Collectors is that Sovereign didn't use them to assist in invading the Citadel in ME1.

I like how galactic civilization just lived at the citadel and found the keepers there and couldn’t interact with them at all without them exploding. And nobody ever found them suspicious
Honestly, I liked the image of the Reapers that Harbinger put forth prior to their explanation in the 3rd entry. That it, something impossibly old and powerful beyond human comprehension like a mechanical realization of HP Lovecrafts Old Ones. Was super creepy how unconcerned Harbinger was with explaining their' nature to Shepherd in his first appearance, like he was giving an unnecessary lesson to a doomed ant for what would only be his own amusement, had it existed.
basically the Reapers killed all organics before they could possibly annihilate the entire universe with their self destructive nature, I love how the plot shows that even evil people can change and that possibility is what entitles us to try and aim for a better future
Smoke Weed The Reapers are good. Though their methods are questionable, their motives are for the greater good. It just took biological creatures some time to realize that unity is what they need and the Catalyst recognized this and gave Shepard the option to decide the fate of the galaxy because he is the key to the change.
Dickmelson Lupot Reapers are not good they are evil. by your own logic Nazis and Communists would be also good after all they wanted make world better place... What comes to Shepard He/she was indoctrinated and dont tell that he wasnt because he/she has been in contact with Reaper artifacts dozens upon dozens time. and Catalyst tries/push Shepard to either control reapers or synthesis. Destroying Reapers is only good solution. In my game I made peace with Geth and Quarians ( I bet the most of Mass Effect playerbase did same) that proves that Reaper's claims are false and AIs and organic beings can coexist.
Normaali Ihminen And do you America is "good" too?? With it's "rich" history. Just ask the guy on the 20 $ bill, Syria, Egypt and Iraq *cough* thanks to Killary *cough* Everyone has blood in their hands no one is ever "good". Being "good" is a matter of perspective. And as far as the lore goes, biological creatures in the past weren't exactly "good" themselves. Hell, the Protheans even practiced slavery and genocide themselves and when the Reapers came they had no chance because they were not united and one of the things that defines us played a part in their downfall which is PRIDE. They were too proud of their little achievements that when faced with the reality of being attacked by something more powerful than them, they failed miserably. Why do you think the Leviathans made the Catalyst in the first place? Because the "lower life forms" in their time were being continuosly wiped out by their own creations. Eventhough it was inevitably the downfall of the Leviathans themselves, they never forgot their purpose and that was to "protect life" and "elimate chaos".
Normaali Ihminen You are basing your decision through EMOTION. Don't forget that the Reapers are machines, they don't have emotions but rather they have objectives and will take the most effective solution. And that solution was to prevent life forms from "advancing too much" that they'll get to the point where they would wipe themselves out. Such was the case at the time they were created and were still proven correct time and time again up until the main ME universe timeline when Shepard managed to unite the galaxy including synthetic allies (the Geth). It was because of this coupled with Shepard and his allies' tenacity and stubborness to not give up that made the Catalyst realized that in that cycle their methods isn't the solution anymore that's why the Catalyst gave Shepard the opportunity to decide the fate of the galaxy. And by the way I chose Blue and/or Green. The Reapers had the potential to aid the galaxy, it's a waste to just destroy them.
Normaali Ihminen In the lore, of all the cycles that they did it was only in the ME timeline's cycle that both synthetics and organics banded together. That was a first in the ME's Lore.

Thank you so much for this newest video. I had suggested this particular topic a month ago but I am glad you acted upon it. I always thought the Reapers and the Collecters were excellent topics to cover in the Mass Effect series. Also another alien race that would make for an interesting video would be the Visitors from the TV series V.
There really isnt much story to it. There are still unanswered questions from the first 3 games. I'm pretty sure that even the game developers dont know much about the story.
"We impose order on the chaos of organic evolution. You exist because we allow it.... and you will end because we demand it!" ~ Sovereign to Shepard and his Squadmates regarding his objective.
Most people compared it to ME2 (arguably the best). I compared it instead with ME1 (my personal favorite), since they're both the first in their series, had a few celebrity appearances, not a perfect game, a bit buggy at times, still a whole lot of fun. I guess you could also argue this; Andromeda was technically an indie game with a big budget, (Bioware Montreal instead of Bioware Austin) developers started with Frostbite (even though they weren't forced to) instead of Unreal Engine (a more familiar software). Most of them never worked on a Bioware game before MEA, had to build everything from scratch. They even experimented with motion capture. Shame it didn't work out, Bioware Montreal had to close after. Only hope is that after Anthem we get a sequel lol. Or maybe Jade Empire 2...
6:01 And thats why the red ending is the only one where Shepard is not indoctrinated. On other endings you submit to the reapers. Red ending is the only one, with the animation, where Shepard wakes up on Earth not indoctrinated!!!

The Leviathans be like “hey dawg we heard you didn’t want to be killed by synthetics so we created some synthetics to kill you every 50,000 years so you won’t be killed by synthetics”
Well, Reapers are probably the only antagonists who genuinely terrified me. With any other “big bad” you kinda know deep inside that a hero will win. But with Reapers... damn, I remember watching the final Mass Effect 2 cutscene and was thinking: thats it, we are all dead. And it was scary.
Yes! Excellent analysis as usual. That conversation with Sovereign’s A.I. is one of my favourite moments in a video game. And now, perhaps you would consider a Half-Life episode? Would love to hear your opinion.
Awww, cuddle-fish. Oh gah, no! Don't want! Don't want! Ahhh! Thanks for the video. Excellent, as always. Could you do the Big Sister & Little Sisters from Bioshock, please?
I think the Gears of War Locust race or even the planet sera its located on and all the conflicts that happen on it would be awesome! keep up the awesome work!
I better enjoyed the original story line that melded the idea (along with parts of what is explained here) of the consequences of the mass effect. Black matter and black energy that could only be manipulated by organics. But to its effects, it was consuming parts of the galaxy (part one there is a mention of the sun that was being consumed or depleted too quickly, you visit in part two). Part of the reason for harvesting was simple self preservation or desire by the machines to control this power. The catalyst new that it could not control this phenomena. That it needed to some how fuse it self to organic life in order to survive or further thrive. Notice that only organics can use this power. Also note that those story elements pertaining to dark energy where not even touched in part 3. Why it chose the humans and why it wanted so badly to convert Commander Shepherd. It may have finally found a way with humans, why the reaper that was destroyed in part was human in appearance, no other species ever converted or shaped a reapers structure like so. The galaxy was its test lab. Humans being offered the answer and it pursued us and all sentient organics that came in contact with us to make its perfect reaper.
Never played mass effects but still love the reaper's design and story ! Also, you should do a video about the chimerian virus and the chimera species from the Resistance series ! :)
If I could like this video a thousand times, I would. Mass Effect is my FAVORITE video game franchise. Andromeda was a poor followup, and I really think they need to go back to Commander Shepard if possible, or just rebuild the original three games from the geound you with today's graphic and mechanics.
As playing ME3, I can say that it depend on each Reaper energy shield. That shield is very strong, can defect mostly anything that throw to them, but it still have its limit. When the shield is downed, normal weapon are worked on them, that how the Aliance defeat Sovereign in ME1. Rather than that, the Reaper are smart enough to avoid those situation (first thing they do when reach Earth is to netraulize every nuclear silo they can find)
After replaying the trilogy, I forgot how awesome ME1 was. Although clunky, it had a fantastic art style, felt cinematic and alien. It was dark and had a mysterious vibe to it, especially with the Soveriegn and Prothean AI encounters. The lore was captivating. ME 2 & 3, although fun and awesome in their own right...kinda just felt like an action adventure mashup of Star Wars / Avengers. Am I buggin?

Yomu, yeah it did. And the Manga was so badass. Tbh the movie was terrible.
@@KHRification They did.
The reapers. Interesting 🤔
more like rapers xD
@@prime0502 they simply, are.
The design is based on the uhlek from starflight.
Absolutely LOVE this trilogy. Thanks for another great video!
I never thought the day would come of you doing a video on the Reapers from Mass Effect trilogy.
Its here. Relish in its glory :)
Definitely.😎
I love that you made this!!
Man, hearing Sovereign's voice again really brings me back. The Reapers were so freaking badass
mass effect trilogy is my FAVOURITE game trilogy! thanks for this video!
I wish he'd talk more about the reaper tech that transformed living beings into machines but I'm super thankful for being one of the people who suggested this and got it
I screamed you are covering my favorite game franchise ever!
Mass effect is by far my favorite series ever. Its so damn amazing
Love your vids man the intros especially; how you show some footage/gameplay, date and title. Keep up the good work.
So basically space terminators that are bigger than your average skyscraper
The reapers are probably my favourite enemy faction in all of gaming and also nice of you to include the mass effect 3 trailer in the end
You should do the Rakghoul disease from Star Wars KOTOR
Wait that was in KOTOR? I just knew it from the comics. Kickass, I need to play that game
Thanks for explaining everything!
Dude, you are diverse! NICE!
Already eye peaking at:
The Sandworms (Dune explored)
next. xD
And we will remember Shepard..
Because of him I am alive and I am not alone
I love just how massive and alien and godlike the reapers are, they truly are the perfect villain
Reaper Leviathans... OH, NOW I GET IT!!!
TheWaffleman54 Yeah that would be a good one.
You should do some videos about the Gears of War universe
yep! its on the list :)
FilmComicsExplained Awesome! Keep up the great work. I love your videos.
hell yea
There really isnt much story to it. There are still unanswered questions from the first 3 games. I'm pretty sure that even the game developers dont know much about the story.
Tyler Alex thats what the comics are for
You've barely scratched the surface of the Reapers let alone the series, I'd love to see more on Mass Effect.
"We impose order on the chaos of organic evolution. You exist because we allow it.... and you will end because we demand it!"
~ Sovereign to Shepard and his Squadmates regarding his objective.
n o i c e i was hoping you will make this one!
Man, I gotta get back into gaming! This was pretty cool. Good stuff, thanks Niyat!
"What's up guys niad here with film comics explained" ,your intro never gets old I love it.
I'm guilty of liking Andromeda! I want another ME game lol
BlurBerry Creative it was glitchy but Andromeda is really good
I loved the game as well
Same I need a new ME
BlurBerry Creative don’t be,.....I liked it too,...refused to follow the bioware hate bandwagon.
The indoctrination theory was debunked by the devs. You are still on citadel after the destroy ending. But you survive because of your cybernetics.
Somehow I became addicted to this channel.
OH MY PROTHEAN!
I have awaited this for a loooooooooooong time!
Legendary editions coming out in 3 days.... I needed this hype video.
I asked my grandpa with bad hearing to get me Minecraft on Xbox a few years back and he gave me this. I play this game a lot now and I find it really wholesome... Love you pops
RIP Mass Effect and Bioware. Thanks for all the memories.
The Leviathans be like “hey dawg we heard you didn’t want to be killed by synthetics so we created some synthetics to kill you every 50,000 years so you won’t be killed by synthetics”
He finally made a video on this I’m so happy
Great video man!
Thanks Smitty!
"I'm Commander Shepherd and this is my favorite TH-cam channel on the Citadel"
Dang! I really love this channel 💕
Great videos brother
Thanks homie!
Mass Effect is one of my favorite game franchises (ignoring Andromeda), so it's wonderful to see this video from you.
I remember when Sovereign was revealed to be sentient... well that was a twist
I see that they took a lot of inspiration from Babylon 5...and I’m a big fan of both.
Nice video as always mate!
Still my fav after so many years
I think the Gears of War Locust race or even the planet sera its located on and all the conflicts that happen on it would be awesome! keep up the awesome work!
That scene made me jump out of my chair and square up with exitment
This is one of my favorite game that I never skip the cutscenes and dialogs. I played all three games nonstop 4 times already lol.
TWO MORE DAYS BOYS LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I have NO IDEA what you wrote lol wow...
I love the way they sound
4:30 always gives me chills.
Good to know the background on the Robot-Insect-Aliens (not to be confused with ladybugs) that shoot at the ground
First part of this vid... Man, I am still getting goose bumps and thinking of the first time I saw this with all the alliances I made.
Never played mass effects but still love the reaper's design and story ! Also, you should do a video about the chimerian virus and the chimera species from the Resistance series ! :)
This subject and generally whole Mass Effect universe would make an incredible big budget movie
If I could like this video a thousand times, I would. Mass Effect is my FAVORITE video game franchise. Andromeda was a poor followup, and I really think they need to go back to Commander Shepard if possible, or just rebuild the original three games from the geound you with today's graphic and mechanics.
Great content man. How bout some 40k videos?
thanks mate. yep, its on the list
FilmComicsExplained that's what I'm talking about!
The Zerg from starcraft
Or the tyranids from 40k, might have some more lore to work with.
the medicus I think hes explained them before check his channel
peter torres nope
Questions...would their skin survive the following:
1)antimatter beams?
2)black holes?
3)canceling subatomic forces? (strong/weak nuclear force, electromagnetism)
Those reaper ships are nasty dudes.
Loved those games so much! The 3rd was the best by far
Always loved the Mass Effect universe
After replaying the trilogy, I forgot how awesome ME1 was. Although clunky, it had a fantastic art style, felt cinematic and alien. It was dark and had a mysterious vibe to it, especially with the Soveriegn and Prothean AI encounters. The lore was captivating. ME 2 & 3, although fun and awesome in their own right...kinda just felt like an action adventure mashup of Star Wars / Avengers. Am I buggin?
Harbinger is the oldest and first reaper but it was not the largest. Sovereign is the largest
the reaper voice is so creepy and sirens they called, when they on ground is terrifying
I love all 3 mass effect games the triology regardless of what haters may say
thanks for the vid keep it up bro you made my day again
Anytime!
