You forgot to mention Portsmouth reaching the 2010 FA Cup final, but not being able to play in the following seasons Europa League due to financial implications.

Yep, we were meant to play in europe, (chelsea went to champions league) but due to finances, couldn't get a license, so instead Liverpool had it.

I'm not a Portsmouth fan but seeing any club fall like that through very little fault of their own is genuinely upsetting. I hope Portsmouth can one day regain their place in the Premier league

you start in UK england, both ireland and wales and scotland. teams in 3 division do not have any money to send scout to those nations and it would be to unrealistic

I haven't reached the UCL yet but I did make back to back Europa League finals, winning the first. What's great is Conor Chaplin started with the club in League 2 and is still Captain and one of my leading goal scorers.

One on value for money in the transfer market. What factors determine player value. Are clubs really paying over the odds for players like Pogba, Neymar and Renato Sanches, or are these deals in fact good business and it's the less marketable players that are a risk?

Thats a Perfect Example for why Teams should be Owned by the Fans Not a Billionaire. And thats why the 50+1 Rule we have in Germany is the Best Rule in Football, and we Fans fight for that Rule every Single Day

Spanish fan here, for some reason I started following Pompey back in 2005, I was even lucky enough to visit Fratton Park and I could enjoy the 3-1 win against Derby County in january 2008. It was a fantastic experience. Its also funny because thats the day Lass Diarra made his first Pompey appearance, and both my father and I thought he was brilliant. Not much later, he signed for Real, which is the Spanish club I support. Portsmouth fans are great, what they did for their club was brilliant, and they deserve the best. Hope this is the season Pompey starts climbing divisions.

Running a club is like any business,if you overspend and have no way of raising new funds,your basically screwed..also failing to pay Tax,National Insurance and VAT will see you go into administration..just Ask any Supporter of The Rangers..

And they take NO RESPONSIBILITY for letting criminals run clubs and then when it turns bad they dish out point deductions as if to prove just how bad a job they have done checking if they are Fit and Proper....Club doing bad cos weve let a criminal run it? lets kick a man when hes down and dish out some point deductions...How do the league get away with running things this badly but taking NONE of the blame?

watching this in 2019, we are on our way back after narrowly missing promotion in the playoffs but won the Checkatrade Trophy and made some cracking signings so I fully believe that this year is our year!

Been loving all your videos for a long time. Some interesting topics both modern and classic, and very well spoken and set out. The only gripe I can have that I can consistently see in your videos are simple spelling/grammar issues. 08/08 season, Gaydamek/Gaydamak etc. and some more in other videos. I honestly believe this channel can become huge and simple errors like that can be fixed and make a huge difference. I'll always enjoy what you make.

I'm not a Portsmouth FC fan (I'm a Spurs fan), but it saddens me deeply to see this club crumble to pieces.
We're slowly moving up but our crap billionaires owners won't put 5 million in the club so we won't go up until they go

Portsmouth was the very first team I ever saw play in the Premier League. So they hold a small piece of my heart for Premier League soccer. Hope someone one day can awaken the sleeping the giants back to the glory.
the Premier League and FA really messed up on their 'Fit and Proper persons' test for new owners... if they had done their job and researched properly I wonder if this situation would've escalated as bad as it did. Shame the premier league just wanted to keep making an example of Pompey instead of correcting some of their mistakes

@Pnag I fail to see what the problem is. While the money was there he spent it and was successful in doing so, once the money ran out the club began to struggle. How is that in any way the fault of the manager, he manages on field operations, he doesn't manage the finances or the books, he doesn't manage wages, he doesn't sign the players, he doesn't write the contracts.
Harry was told he had X to spend, spent it, and was then immediately told we need to recoup 2X. He was put in an impossible position by an utterly incompetent board of directors and owner.

This is heartbreaking
You could do a video on Portsmouth's fruitless quest to build a new stadium. The story covers a mad scheme for an elaborate harbour side stadium in 2007, to planning permission being denied in Farlington in the early 90's due to Brent Geese. Oh also another failed attempt at a new stadium built on top of a landfill site, and the still unrealised ambition of rotating the stadium 90 degrees to allow redevelopment at the current site. There are probably other schemes I have missed but Portsmouth must have had more failed stadium plans than any other club. In the mean time, other local league clubs who traditionally had smaller stadiums such as Southampton and Brighton have overtaken Portsmouth with new high spec stadiums.

its a supporters trust. which is run by pompey fans, but like any business obviously has like the top person (boss) who runs it priamrily. but pompey fans have all given a shit tonne of money towards the club to keep us afloat and hopefully wont have to again..

At the end it could of been added the club is now debt-free, all previous debt and legacy payments inherited was wiped from the club 18 months after the trust took over.

+PlayOnDesura In the context of the OP, I suspect that they mean the Bundesliga ownership regulations, which require the clubs to retain at least 50% of the shareholding, and ensures that they remain majority fan-owner.
This eradicates the "buying success with an extremely wealthy benefactor" bullshit that we've seen with Blackburn, Citeh and Chelsea (twice).

Our champions league 4th spot is so strong now that as of next season even the team that finishes 4th in the premier league this season don’t have to go into the champions league play off. All 4 teams straight into the group stages

Excellent vid. More positive now. Up to mid-table League 1 after promotion last year. Now owned by Americans and we'll have to see how they do. Whoever brokered the deals to those terrible owners needs questioning.

I remember at the time of 07/08, I felt they were really punching above their weight. Even thought they won the FA Cup and played really well, the bubble was going to burst sooner rather than later.
And now we have in the UK the situation where the MP who begged the prime minister in the house of commons to "forget" the debt to the HMRC "for the good of Portsmouth" as the head of the HMRC and chief paymaster....you couldn't make it up.

I'm not a Pompey fan but I remember Mandric being there when Harry was there but I don't know what his role was....was he the chairman or something? Was he to blame for Pompey's financial woes?
