How different this would have been had we beaten Porto and Monaco to win that UCL where at that point (semis) we were the favorites to many eyes. That comeback against European champions Milan in the quarterfinals was the pinnacle, and the elimination by Porto was the beginning of our downfall. Still, what a great story to be told and what a great legacy to have. Now, with big clubs getting even more money than in the 90s and early 00s, it seems impossible to achieve such a feat anymore, but here we are, supporting this club in the bad times as much as we enjoy supporting it in the good ones. Forza Depor.

Philippe Leclerc As a Porto fan I remember that tie fondly, and yes you were the favourites and deservingly so as Depor had a great side in those times
Oh my god! They are in 3. Liga?!? I lost track of them years ago but thought that such a historic club would just be in the top places of 2. Bundesliga...
That semi final vs Mourinho's Porto side will haunt us forever, just as Djukic penalty miss has. I remember Andrade getting sent off in the first leg for "tapping" Deco in the back with his foot, almost saying "get up, I hardly touched you" the ref interpreted that as an aggression and sent him off. We played the rest of the game with a man less and missed Andrade for the return leg at home which proved vital. Cesar played as his replacement and committed the penalty which knocked us out 0-1 at home. Gutted.
Well, I was a kid back then. Still remember asking my mother if the penalty goal counted and if we really were qualified to the final. I'm a Porto fan, but Depor was surely the hardest opponent we faced on our road to the final. Miss that Depor and that Porto. Ended up liking Depor because of that semi final. Hope someday we both return to the top of the european football
Los Galacticos I really didn’t like them back then and I never bought the “plucky underdog” narrative, they used the dark arts of football to get ahead of the opposition like many of Jose’s teams, they had a lot of talent but they were a petulant team
Porto were so lucky that season, had a perfectly legal goal by Man United against them disallowed that would have knocked them out, should never have won the CL that season.
I remember Diego Tristan went there in the early 2000's from then I followed them for a while, I hope they get back to the La Liga, They had some great players over the years.
Such an interesting story. As someone who has only watched PL football all his life, this was really fascinating. Makes me want to start a new career in FIFA with Deportivo and make them rise to the top again.
We are back! After a long trip of 4 terrible years. I was 15 when we were on our top, but many many kids now saw Deportivo coming back and is always gonna be supporters. Forza Depor!
This video saddens me. Back in the 90s and 00s when I had a lot more time to follow the European time, Depor were my Spanish team. Loved the way they took on the big boys playing really attractive football. Valeron and Fran were great players. I remember there was a really good English language website, which was good for me too.
I fondly remember Depor in early 00’s with players such as Valeron, Makaay, Pandiani, Tristan, Naybet, Molina, Djalminha , Luque etc, they thrashed Milan in the knockout stage in a great turnaround tie and lost to my club Porto in the semifinals of the 03/04 CL. A great side who played great football at the time 🤙🏻
Thank you, beautiful... From a Dépor Fan who grows with that enormous phenomenon. We achieve win titles against the most rich and powerful clubs, and we were loved and had the sympathy of everyone for that at that time... We were the small David against gigantic Goliath

I cried so much but when someone, specially if like u is foreigner, remember all what we do my heart grows up with a big smile. Again, thank you!
as a young boy of around 8yrs i started supporting Deportivo around 2001 in the UCL because they were the only team that thoroughly beat My uncle's team Man united, around 2002 they faced Arsenal and was so happy they beat that English team,, little did i know that few montha later Arsenal won a double and crushed United my nemesis, a spark grew in me with Arsenal and i have been an Arsenal fan since then but with fond memories of my real, first proper team Deportivo La corunya. ❤
As an Englishman, I can’t really explain why I’ve always followed Depor. I remember in the early 2000s seeing Depor frequently in the Champions League and being a regular choice of mine when playing Pro Evolution Soccer. Hoping for better years🤞🏻way too good for third tier football.
I still remember being in high school in 2001 and seeing what I still consider the greatest collection of Champions League teams in one group stage. PSG, Galatasaray, AC Milan, and Deportivo. I remember taping the games they showed on ESPN on VHS and would watch them over and over again. Makaay and Diego Tristan were amazing together. Not to mention the talent of Milan, Okocha and a young Ronaldinho for PSG, and of course the human highlight reel Hagi for Galatasaray. What a fun time to be a fan of soccer. Miss those days
They're currently in danger of dropping even lower, to the Segunda B. The first half of the season was disastrous for the team, being bottom of the table on most of it. Their form improved a bit since, as they won 7 straight matches to get out of the Relegation zone, but they're now back on it.
I feel so good that I managed to bring Coruna back to the Champions League in Football Manager. I know it's just a game but it's always nice to see it even if it is a simulation.
Thank you so much for this. Deportivio played out of the world football with just 1 striker upfront. All their matches should be in archive for years to come. They have limited potential but mesmerised fans. Super Depor will come back .

Awesome video. I'd love to see a tactical analysis / history of Lyon's winning season in this first decade of the 2000s where they won the league title some 8,9 times back to back.
Sort of video that definitely gets me emotional. I always hoped that Depor would sustain their success throughout the early part of 2000s and go on to regularly compete with the big boys. Sadly that wasn't the case
Deportivo fan here, and I got to say that he hardest (and maybe saddest) part of this story is the passing of time: that LaLiga title was back in 2000, almost 20 years ago, Arsenio’s era ended almost 25 years ago, the Centenariazo (that’s how we call the Copa title vs Real Madrid) is already 18 years old, and the last participation in UCL was 15 years ago...you might read this and say: yes, but you just stated obvious numbers; but think about this: there is a vast amount of supporters of the club that weren’t able to enjoy these golden days: some of them didn’t have use of reason, and some of them weren’t even born. The people that couldn’t be a part of the glory of the past will always feel gutted about not being able to see their team having success, while the parents or grandparents of these fans will always remember, with seemingly incurable melancholy, those magic nights with a special bright in their eyes, knowing and trying to accept that maybe, and most surely, that football miracle will never happen again. Meanwhile the team struggles in LaLiga Smartbank (Second Division) after missing promotion last season, but we will never leave, no matter what, and it is nice to see that the team is still remembered, even outside spanish borders. Forza Dépor 💙
Ese lamento de no poder haberlo vivido podría ser algún día la chispa que encienda otra era gloriosa, de querer ver ese equipo de nuevo peleándole a los grandes.

@@firstlastname4672 Of course it's about the sheiks fault. But there are interesting things to talk -2010/11 Season. Didn't win the league, thus not that spectacular IMO. Don't get me wrong, I loved their story and temporary rise with Pellegrini but just like Pelle's former team Villarreal they did not win much beyond challenging for 2nd/3rd. Depor won once and had those fantastic results in Europe, hence..
Could we get a brief history of Stuart Pearce? Kind of a left-field one but I was just reading about his years in non-league whilst working as an electrician, his reluctant move straight from non-league to the top-flight, and his strange transfer to Nottingham Forest where he would go on to be a surprise legend. This, combined with his interesting later, international and managerial careers, would make for a good video-I think.
Man, I used to root for Deportivo against Real Madrid in 2004... Barcelona vs Deportive match up has something special to both fans... Either really want to win the clash up and feel almost like Clasico...
I hope you should do more videos something like this in the future. Please, make a videos about rise and downfall club such as Fiorentina, Parma, Kaiserslautern, or Hamburg for example.

@@firstlastname4672 nothing like Palermo lmao Palermo's owner was a massive scumbag crook the situation is completely different
Do a video about sampdoria's magic years ( Serie A title and CL final against Barça)
Pagluica,Mancini,vialli, Lombardo,vierchwood...etc
What a team they were
Viva DEPORTIVO El TURKOS ! Greattings from Turkey
Thank you thank you thank you!!! Greetings from A Coruña! Streets will never forget the Super Depor! :)
Brooo you’re so educated when it comes to football. Your illustrations make me glued to the screen.
Man, I used to root for Deportivo against Real Madrid in 2004...
Barcelona vs Deportive match up has something special to both fans...
Either really want to win the clash up and feel almost like Clasico...
Best thing on the internet this week. Made even sweeter by no promotion of the Athletic!
More please. :)
Every time I see something about Depor, it makes me depressed.
ScarceSmile 95 me too
Great stuff! Do one on Malaga please 👍
Deportivo reminds me of 2003/04 champions league quarterfinals, what a recovery
hard not to be moved - a great underdog -i remember the night v man u the fans will always have those memories.
That was a monster defense they had, with all the iconic Brazilian and Moroccan players !
Loading up FM now for a new campaign. I remember Super Depor, they were a pleasure to watch.
Quality content this. Love the history of clubs I grew up aware of, and watched in the champions League, but really had no grasp of their history
I watched Deportivo alot between 2007 and 2011 when Andres Guardado was ther✌
best video i ve ever seen about my depor
thx for this
nos van a ver volver
Very sad to see this great historic club next season in the third tier of Spanish football😢 Hope we will ever Superdepor again💙🤞💪
I hope you should do more videos something like this in the future. Please, make a videos about rise and downfall club such as Fiorentina, Parma, Kaiserslautern, or Hamburg for example.
HSV 😢😢
My favourite team in Spain.Respect from Turkey 👍🏻
Becayişcan SOLAYATAR lol what a joke
screamsaeed what is so funny ?
Becayişcan SOLAYATAR oh sorry man. I thought you were joking. Because no one outside of spain roots for deportivo when there is real madrid or barcelona.
screamsaeed haha i see that but thats an obligation to me to support the team which has fans calling themselves "Turkos" 🙂
Becayişcan SOLAYATAR hahaha. They don’t call themselves turkos in love of turkey. Don’t plead your allegiance to them. Just joking bro. It’s a free world cheer for whoever you want. Enjoy your 🇹🇷
More entries into the rise and fall series...do baovista next...the first club to end the stranglehold of the big three in Portugal
