Thank you sooooo much for calming my anxiety. I've been actually depressed trying to figure out why my dodge van has had repetitive problems after getting the oil changed from a different person. My gas mileage dropped to nothing, my check oil light has been on since the day after getting it changed. It was a slow leak now, now its gushing out when I drive. And no one would give me a direct clear answer on what the problem is. After watching your videos, I feel more confident about it. Thank you, again!

@@AlexTheCarDoctor thank you but unfortunately I'm have a very hard time getting a mechanic to look at it. I took the risk of more damage and went to three shops today & each place immediately said its my rare main seal without even looking to see if it was coming from the housing, much less a leak on top in general. So I'm back at square one.. I wish you were in SC.. being a single mom of very active kids, I need my car to work 🙃

That’s so frustrating that’s the same story with this one don’t even take their time to properly diagnose the vehicle. even though I can’t see the vehicle I’m going to assume it’s the oil cooler leaking oil causing it to look like the rear main seal leaking

@@AlexTheCarDoctor I followed your link you posted in a comment to someone else and got the part sitting in my Amazon cart .. but I don't want to order it until I can find someone to replace it. So if you can reach out to anyone you may know around the upstate of South Carolina.. or a shop recommendation for me, I would greatly appreciate it. My oldest daughter was informed today she is going to flunk out of school if she misses anymore time 😭 that hurts because she was making straight A's in college. But it's over $100. daily to uber her back & forth. I need to save the money to fixing the car. My boys have been walking home from football practice every night for the last week already and that worries me. They don't get home until after 11pm. I was going to rent the tools you mentioned and try to do it myself but I have no mechanical knowledge.. and we've haven't lived here long enough to know anyone personally. Hopefully I will hear back from someone by next week 🙏

My '14 Dodge Charger had the oil cooler leak at about 12,000 miles and the symptom was a big cloud of blue smoke when accelerating from a dead stop. The dealer replaced it in a few hours with the non defective parts ( O rings and cooler) and it's still holding. I did have to replace my thermostat at 48,000 miles. The engine temp would only get to 185 degrees when it should get to 206, then I could get heat. Kinda important in Cleveland!

Thank you so much for this video. At 4:52 is the seepage around the valve cover gasket because of the leakage in the oil filter cooler housing, like it sloshed all over there, and that it’s not going to seep anymore once the oil filter cooler is replaced? Or does that gasket need to be replaced too?
I’m having the same issue where I’m told replace all seals and gaskets everywhere and they barely mentioned the oil filter housing when I can see oil in there so I’m just trying to determine what’s the first repair I need to do.
I only noticed small drops of oil in my driveway recently, Challenger is 6 years old. I’ve never had a low oil warning or any burning smells so I don’t understand why they’re acting like I have a waterfall of oil flowing every where and then not even tell me during all the times I went there for maintenance 🤷🏻‍♀️

What up, Alex. I have an issue w/ my 16 Charger v6. Went to park in reverse, car dash says "Shift to P then desired gear". Cut it off, turned back on, same issue even when in a different gear. Doesn't move. Noticed an oil trail the next morning behind, underneath, in the grill and inside the car below the radiator. Check engine light now on also. Any idea what it could be? Car still starts and sounds fine, but will only move after it's been sitting overnight for about 20 seconds going back and forth in the garage.

I think it’s great that when you find a major problem that’s going to cost a lot to fix that you feel for the customer. Although I gotta say, these Chrysler engines (you are probably aware of the Hemis eating cams) are problematic and have been historically bad. At some point people gotta listen to the information out there and make wise choices in vehicles. Just like the Ford 5.4 three valve. How many years were people buying them after the cam phaser issue (as you may know that while fixable the cost is so high that you might as well put a complete reman engine in there) and the bad engineered 2 piece spark plugs breaking off. As a mechanic you gotta feel frustration (although it does make your shop money) with crappy engineering.
    Cheers

@@AlexTheCarDoctor That's simply incredible, Alex but no need to do a special video. 🙏
When the TH-cam version comes out I'll watch it then. I've watched enough to feel confident I can tackle this stuff (better than the mechanic I paid.) Slow and steady wins the race. 🔧
I've got to say, I do wish you were on the west coast. I'd happily pay a shop that had someone like you making sure what happened on that 40k mile 2018 jeep Wrangler video you did doesn't happen. I swear, I'm finding the same sort of stuff under my hood now that I'm looking closely.

I do actually everything that you just mentioned. I am going through it with my Dodge Charger, I have a 2014 and right there. Around that part that you mentioned there's oil sitting there and I know I just changed my oil pressure sensor my when I head and did that, but we thought that that would fix it, but it's still leaking and at first we thought it was leaking from the bottom. But then when I went for an oil change at Walmart? The guy there said that it was coming from the top. He just didn't know where, but now it makes sense. So can you please give me an idea of how much is going to cost me and who do I seek about something like this?
