The song and the mood was so different from whatever I heard on the radio in the Netherlands back then. Didn't understand a word or what it was about at all. Just the atmosphere it brought of something ancient and eternal, the angelic voice, the music really really special , to this day.

When young i cycled with my first KogaMiyata Worldtraveler the Ring of Kerry and Ring of Baera , when having on my steering wheel a cassette player playing the music of Clannad ( imagine the atmosphere ) , and visiting also the then unknown Skellig Islands 🤢Seasickness. The whole trip seen 10 cars max. , fantastic trip ….fantastic people .

Given that Enya is a sister (and was once a Clannad member), that's one heck of a talented family. The scenery is pretty special too, just as beautiful and ethereal as the music.

How is it possible that Maire Brennan still sings with such an angelic voice. It leaves me spellbound every time , from the moment she utters the very first notes. Now I finally know what the lyrics mean, it makes me love the Gaelic language even more: imho this language can even make your own passing a magical event. So haunting and so beautiful.

Visited Leo’s Tavern in the early 90s one glorious weekend. This brings back great memories. Leo was there, sang a few songs and the young woman behind the bar was unmistakably a family member.

Clannad makes you emote, thier music in galic really sooths the soul it touches a part of your heart a lot of people didn't realise they had. I love the harmonies, when you listen it's like getting a hug ( if that makes sense?)

When there is talent you don't need a big voice. Both Moya and Enya have quiet voices yet their renditions are incredibly powerful. Plus the quality of the music compositions and arrangements.

Piercing, haunting. Perfection. I'd listen to this anytime. First hearing in a film left me in awe that will never pass away. Few songs can do that. Never tiring, as some other Celtic performances can be. Just the sound of the Gaelic lyric summons all the history of that land, the people who've lived and died there. Such a pure, eternal sound here. Such a gorgeous group. I always loved Enya's music, but this feels like a chorus of angels singing truth about human experience.

Much credit to U2 for using Harry’s Game in the intro of their Under a Blood Red Sky/Red Rocks concert.

Thanks. I used to know that, lol.
I'll have to revisit that disc.
I saw that War tour. 1983 , Queen Elizabeth Theater, Vancouver. The one we're Bono thought he'd hang from the balcony and drop himself to the floor until he realized how far down it was. Had to be rescued by his security guy.
My roommate's girlfriend got pulled up on stage for the obligatory slow dance with Bono.
11 days later, they played Red Rocks.
      Epic memories.

U2 used it for a number of tours. When I went to see Clannad in Berkeley in the 80s, I wondered if they would return the favor. The house lights went down and the intro to Where the Streets Have No Name led the band to the stage.

"This music is incredible, I have to check the credits ......Clannad? No idea who they are. Maybe they do soundtracks, I can't imagine they've recorded anything. "
Then, one day I turned on MTV in the middle of what had to be a commercial, because they don't play music this enthralling. Then I hear Bono. WTF? My collection of Clannad albums began on my next trip to a record store.

Enya has some songs but there's not an equal to Harry's Game in my opinion. Odd thing that I used to fall asleep with this song when I was a child, yet it was a song based on a passage about the death. I just always found it so calming, especially at times when you have hundred things floating in your head and you need to first get into a zen like state of mind before you finally fall asleep.

If that latter excerpt is from TOTP in the 80s, it's a credit to them that like Simply Red and even an early Iron Maiden, they were bold enough to not hide idly behind studio wizardry. Instead, they all played live...without a net. Now that's the mark of quality if you ask me. And what an evocative track to boot. Distilled emotion in a musical framework indeed.

    • @EgoShredder
      @EgoShredder ปีที่แล้ว

That depends. Many bands and artists simply can not afford what it takes to recreate their studio productions live. So if the music can not be recreated faithfully, it will suffer undue harsh criticism as a result.

It was a novel by Gerald Seymour set in Belfast. The plot involved an IRA man who shot a British cabinet minister in London. The British send in their own assassin, an army captain named Harry, to hunt the man down in Belfast. It was a good book and the song is from the TV adaptation. I don't know if it is available on DVD as I haven't seen it since the 1980s.
