  • With time rapidly running out before 'Peter' was entered into the Cornball24 Charity Car Rally #Cornball24 #HELI2 it was time to take it on the road for the first time and see what its like.
Join me on its first venture onto the road since its accident write off.

Peter is back on the road as he should be! About the suspension: the suspension set-up on this car gives it good handling... but it's probably entirely original as you say so it should not be a surprise that it's boat-like. Also, the suspension is not very durable to say the least, especially the front arm bushings. I would replace the arms with a pair from TRW or Lemforder. Rubber components in general could be bad simply due to age... replacing brake hoses is of course important when they are this old.

Indeed....I've made an exhaustive list of all the new parts it will have when it comes back from the paintshop 😃

@@DipstickUK That is great to hear. There isn't a lot of content for the MK1 or MK2 on YT for anything but the engine. Forums are good but still... a video on the front arms the first time I did them would've been so useful to me

Apart from air con, there's not a lot you miss compared to a modern. Reckon new front lower arms might well help....shouldn't be wallow-y really. Temperature gauge being low is a bit of a typical thing.

Yep, definately needs all the easy bolt on suspension front and rear doing. I'd heard that about the temperature gauge from a former Ford salesman at the weekend. It did go to half way once when sitting in traffic for 10mins but quickly dropped back once moving.
