Hi, I'm Sam. I've an unhealthy obsession for buying cars of any age or condition. Some I restore, some I modify, some I use and others I scrap but with all I have fun!!!
This channel is dedicated to classic & modern vehicles (predominantly cars) however I'm interested in all forms of petrol, diesel & steam transportation from any decade....nothing is off limits if its interesting I may well record it!
Follow me on a journey through personal restorations, rebuilds, salvage, project cars, shows, meets & events.
Hope you enjoy watching.

My Completely Rotten Classic 1962 Volkswagen Beetle Abandoned For Over 20 Years - 2025 Revisit
This sorry example of an early 1960's Beetle has been left abandoned and off the road for over 20 years. Many of its parts have been lost in time, corroded away or been salvaged to keep others on the road. I wasn't even in the market for a classic beetle back in 2019 but when the wife spotted this within 5 miles of my house on fb marketplace so I had to take a look.
A deal was struck and it was soon carefully recovered back home where it has remained dormant ever since!!!
I'm revisiting this video and project after a few years of trials and tribulations with a renewed enthusiasm to finally begin this challenging restoration. Its going to be slow going but I've a picture building of the way I want the final build to go.

มุมมอง 14519 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Time to give the Audi TT a quick going over prior to its MOT and see if there's anything glaringly obvious that it will fail on. In this episode I'll check and rectify any issues I find so far as my expertise as a home DIY'er will away before it goes for test.

Abandoned Bedford Bambi Project (Rascal) Gets Replaced With A Mazda Bongo #mazdabongo

So, I've been totally realistic and brutal. The Bambi was never going to get done in time for next summer. I simply have toooooo many projects and can't really afford to miss out on another season without a day/camper van for the family to enjoy. Therefore, I had to let it go. Its been replaced with a Mazda Bongo. Although, needing work and tlc it certainly won't take as much time and effort to...

I bought this police seizure 1989 Bedford Bambi back in 2021. This was seized during the G7 summit @ Carbis Bay, St. Ives, Cornwall. Apparently, the story goes that it was owned, or at least driven by a protester down to the area who didn't hold a valid driving licence, didn't have a current MOT (rings true as expired in 2020), didn't have road tax & was even uninsured!!! Now, I can't verify so...

This is my 1990's Vauxhall that I've abandoned for far too long!!!! This short little video introduces yet another project of mine. This one I've owned for 10 years and haven't done anything to it in 7 years!!! I had, and still have, big plans for this. Originally I was intending on a C20LET conversion but opted instead for the easy to come by Saab B204R Turbo engine. The project stalled a year...
My Reliant Scimitar GTE SE6A Is A Fire Hazard - Replacing The Fuel Pipes - Part 1 (EPISODE 4)
มุมมอง 3534 หลายเดือนก่อน
I FINALLY manage to get a bit of time to spend on the Scimitar and get it roadworthy again. First of the leaks to sort is the fuel line weep somewhere. Easy option in this case is replacing the entire line system with new. Especially, seeing as there's no knowing the age of the items and boy did it need them. Very lucky not to spring a major leak and go up in flames!!!!

Well sam! Your either very brave or mad!! But knowing you I think you will do the job. Least you have got plenty of the panels and engine to go in it. And your misses put you on to it😀 I wish you luck👍🤞
Having her indoors onboard i'm 50% of the way there haha
Haaaaaa wicked
Just brilliant 😊
I just want to drive it now!! Still got a lot of parts to buy for it to make it roadworthy but they will be coming when funds allow.
@ never rush anything good 😊
Awesome stuff man! Just do what i did and carry a pump around with you. Gotta get your moneys worth out of those tyres!
Thanks Mike. Yeah, short term will probably just do that. Had plans to get all the jobs doneover the festive period but a week of flu has ruined Xmas and anything I had planned. Gonna make a fresh start on it in the new year!
I take it that your misses does not watch your videos and will not spot that dirty wheel in her bath then🤣 Merry Xmas sam!🎄👍
I'm pretty sure I'm safe. She's not the slightest bit interested in watching my videos. Just "another bloody car" to her that's how I can flip and change them and she's none the wiser ;)
Wow, even the little LED warning panel is working. Good find 👍
Yes indeed very usual to have all leds and pixels working on every guage/dial. I'd say the cluster has been done at some point as to not have any lines on it after 22 years and 130k is unheard of.
It's surprising how much of the rad is 'covered' by the crash bar, must affect the amount of air that goes through the rad.
Yes indeed...seems many modern cars adopt this practice...must be a reasoning behind it. Guessing the fans must all be far more effective than stuff from the 80-90's and prior.
where i can get camper like this?
Sometimes pop up on ebay uk...there's one on there atm. Unsure on availability abroad probably like rocking horse ....!
Not a bad little project for £200 though. 😉👍
Exactly...don't mind ploughing a few pounds into it and don't mind the fact it needs work. I enjoy doing it most of the time. Door repair, MOT then Ashley exhaust are next on the agenda. Hoping for a strip out, cage, seats, body wrap, suspension work and maybe maybe an engine swap next year.
Wow lots of bits missing! Cute doggo 😎
Indeed there is. Spend the afternoon repairing it today. All back up and running but thats in Part 2 ;)
Great to see the mighty Mini featuring again ❤
Yeah, poor thing has been abandoned since the coolant leak. MOT has lapsed so that needs doing as well. Plus, I was very close recently to buying a donor car for an engine swap ;) ;)
Mate I wanna see some more of this car, I know you got a lot of projects, but this is the 1 I think you should prioritise. I'm loving the videos on this car. That and the bongo, for the summer.
Its all coming in December :)
ABS was optional on the Aspen, LX, it became standard on the GLX in 1995.
Don't actually miss it either. Feels like you have more control. Though probably doesn't go quick enough to experience the benefits of abs. Its more than painful on any hill!!!
Check engine light is supposed to stay on for 30secs. Yours just went away immediately that means something really serious is wrong with this one lol
Anything from 18-30secs is normal on start up. It can be quicker if not a cold start....think this had a few starts prior to doing the video as was moved about so went out quicker. It did go out 15-20secs on average on a cold start even with all the faults pinging up LOL
Much elbow grease required! But underneath it all is a sound vehicle. Can see you having a lot of pleasure with that next summer mate!!👍
Don't mind a bit of elbow grease. Just mindless cleaning and hoovering. Beats having to undertake a full restoration that I simply didn't need at the moment ;)
I miss vans like this. If it had an auto gearbox it would have been near perfect for me.
Love these little campers 👌🏻👍🏻
I was hoping it didn't sell on ebay but unfortunately its got a bid at £500 so looks like its moving on.
@DipstickUK that's quite a project for someone!! 😎
Cars with manual chokes need them on until they warm up a bit. The engiones will not run when turning hte choke off while cold. Auto chokes work in the same way, either by warm water or warm air, a bit like a thermostat works.
I've not had a manual choke in over 20yrs so bit rusty on the usage. I was going by what my Scimitar likes which is very little choke to start then push in very soon otherwise it floods itself. Guess its the opposite on the Bambi. The qwerks between older cars but all adds to the fun.:)
@@DipstickUK I started to drive cars in hte 1970's and also had 1960's cars as my first cars. They all had manual chokes and I soon learned how to use them, even sometimes forgetting to push the choke in, but they never flooded themselves. Some were sprung and the choke cable / knob used to slowly go in on its own. I preferred the auto choke myself when they came out on the later cars. I know the small 2 stroke and 4 stroke single cylinder engines prefer hte choke opened just after starting, just like 50cc moped engines.
Old style mechanics . The engine sounds great .
Indeed! I was thinking the worst case scenario with fuel delivey being an issue but that failed to happen and it started very very easily. Just a shame I have to pass it on to somebody else as just won't get it done :(
Looks like a good car fundamentally, are all the mechanicals Ford? Like the brakes and wheel hubs etc?
No, I believe its just the Essex V6 is that's Ford. Brakes are Lockheed on this one and Girling on all pre 1977 Scimitars.
I'd love to have the Bambi if I could afford to buy it off you 😭
Its going up on ebay next week starting at £500 with no reserve. ;)
On Ebay now at £500 no reserve. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/296780588417
It takes as long as it takes stick in there 😊
If it doesn't sell at auction next week then I'll hang onto it and will carry it on regardless.
It’s more known as a Sooty van 😂
I had little doubt it would start , when you mentioned that it turned over . I had a 1990 Rascal Mover van , and that was ridiculously reliable . Extremely simple 997cc engine , there really was little to go wrong . Typical Japanese motor , unlike the modern electronic wizard machines of today . Built under licence , it's basically badged engineering , in other words a Suzuki in disguise . Both Vauxhall and Bedford got in on the act . Not much protection from a frontal impact , even with mine that had a bull bar as standard , that's what killed them off . Suzuki continued with an updated series two , or what was called the Carry , where they simply just glued an empty bonnet on , and production continued till about 05 . Water leak looks to be the water pump , fairly simple job . Where the series one fails , is rot though . Place to look is just behind the front wheels , that's what killed mine , i also notice the front turrets , are looking a bit rough . Whoever buys that has got some work cut out for them , but the engine piece of cake . Engine parts can be a challenge now , requires a little thinking outside the box if you know what i mean . I've got a series two now , one of the last built . Fuel economy is about the same , nowhere near what others say , but man does it go . You got to be careful with it , it's very tail happy . 1.3 , 16v , put your foot down and it growls , seriously , but i do suspect it's being chipped . I get about 30 , though others reckon they get 50 , never had that nearest was 44 , and that was tickling the right pedal , with a lot of Mexican overdrive thrown in .
Mine had a bullbar to but removed and sold it as preferred the look without. As with all things I had great intentions for this but reality has bitten and needed something I can use next summer hence why the Mazda Bongo replacement. If it doesn't sell i'll keep it and restore it as planned. I had a Daihatsu Hijet van a few years back and that was scary enough on corners let alone a Bambi with a massive arse!!! Must take a special breed to drive these!!!
@@DipstickUK Sorry this took so long , yt wouldn't let me post . Now to be honest , i doubt you would run into to many problem , as it's unlikely to be that quick . If you had the 16v motor from the later Carry models it maybe a different story , but basically the Bambi is just a rebirth of a much earlier version . Back i think in the 70's a company released what they called the Romahome . Pretty much identical to the Bambi except it was demountible so it didn't have the walk though from the cab . It was designed as an add on to another forward control release of the time the Honda Acty . Now this vehicle in very rough form was an identical copy of the Suzuki Super carry , though really it the other way round , the Suzuki is a copy of the Honda . The concept was identical , what the Japanese call a Kia car , there is however one very important difference . The Honda only had a 550cc engine . To be honest , i don't remember much about the specification of the Acty , but i do remember there was a road test with the Romahome on the back , to which the tester said 55 , 60 was its limit . Now like i said , the Romahome was very basic so it would have been lighter , where the spec on the Bambi is actually higher so my guess is , it's likely much heavier . Also the Suzuki base is certainly heavier , so you have a heavier outfit , so my guess is performance would likely be very similar . Fuel economy will certainly take a hit , but i never found the van to be that great anyway . Around the 30 , 35 mark clean , but stick a roof load on , and that dropped to 27 . Where you would gain is traction , both the Super Carry and the Carry are rear wheel drive , and both are tail happy . I will be honest and say the Super Carry is much less so , where the Carry is almost constant , especially in the wet . The extra weight would put weight where it's most needed on the back end .
@@mickey1299 Wow excellent post that must have taken some time. Amazing insights and knowledge. I just wish I had started the project properly 3yrs ago. It will be a sad day when its sold as its currently on ebay with bids :( BUT if it doesn't sell i'll do it. I just had to make a decision as the Bongo needs priority as do my other 22 cars so something had to go and that was unfortunately the Bambi.
I love Bambi's was going to buy one but lost interest in travelling.
It was supposed be a day van/weekend local trips camper but it simply wouldn't have got done by next summer so its now a misfiring mazda bongo to sort instead.
@@DipstickUK Will it still get done?
@@jaggass Not by me unless it doesn't sell this week...but it currently is on ebay. I just need to put my energy into the Bongo nd the other 22 cars i have unfortunately.
Years ago my friend had a Bedford rascal van he put mini light alloys on a momo steering wheel and cherry bomb exhaust but if I can remember it was a 1.3 even painted it black was a good little van we had some fun we was 19 years old the days where you could work on your own vehicles and they was simple as well
Awesome...yeah they are nippy with the 1.3 suzuki power. A lot of older Japanese wheels fit them to....80's Celica's etc etc and look cool. Few nice builds over on retrorides website of a few. Just wish I had time and space to do this one BUT needed something that I can use next summer as have wasted this one without a camper/day van.
He only had he's cheap because it needed welding and good mate I was did it for him as I had a year into college being a welder fabricatior the mini bits was from me as I had a few minis and was building a turbo mini out of a metro turbo the engine was highly modified 1360cc was fast but dangerous them was the good days when cars was simple and easy fords was after that mini and still are I've got MK1 focus 1.6 2004 full service history 30 thousand miles
@@petergrinnell2500 Brilliant. That's the way to do it!! Love everything older than the modern crap we have now. I'm itching for a classic mini...the R50 doesn't quite cut it...fun but not old enough. Still got to sort that out as an ongoing project. Next up a full Hornet exhaust and some tlc.
I did have a hornet rear box on mine a cherry bomb 3 inch tail pipe it's on eBay as I've got sportex back box cherry bomb middle box I built it myself cost me £150 and less when the other box sells not keen on them BMW mini but the simitter with the ford Essex 3L is better old school I would love a Capri but never afford one
The sooty show
Yes indeed!! Remember their version on the original show well. Should have done a replica of it really but needs must and its already at auction.
You would not have got some of the later cars to come to life so easily after 3 years sam!🙂 And her indoors will say that’s one more off the drive🤣
I know exactly!! Definately think they tried to start it at the auction without the choke. The younger staff members have probably never dealt with a car with a manual choke. Glad it was an easy one to sort..even the fuel line was just a return to filler neck. I'm due a tricky one for sure!!
@@DipstickUK Yes youl get a tricky one soon to test you out!🤔 Manual choke is a bit of old school to the younger generation, don’t know how they would get on with a starting handle🤣
WOW! I used to have one of these, fantastic little camper, went all over in it! Very slow, but quite big in the back! Got a spare gearbox for one if you need one?
th-cam.com/video/NcFvILHj8_k/w-d-xo.htmlsi=O5hA9woURz0Q-4ng ; Coches Classic
I can see your planning on living to hundred fifty to get these projects finished! As always I do admire your enthusiasm sam.🙂👍
Oh at the very least!! Still have 5 other projects yet to grace YT but that's over winter!!! :)
I'm focused on the Capri's. Where is the burger van and the ice cream van and tea and crumpet van. Hot days like this you got to have a bit of tea and crumpet.
Yes indeed!! Everything catering wise at events now seems to have to be upmarket! Fancy coffees, foreign cuisine & bespoke beers. Where's the good old greasy spoon gone? Can't beat a cash n carry burger in a chewy bun with cheap as hell ketchup that solves the issue of no vinegar on yah chips!!!
Update for the bus that was broken down, it needed a new gearbox. But I have just got back from a trip to Switzerland in it :)
Cracking example. One of the best there for sure. Lovely colour as well. Very very envious! My Bongo doesn't quite cut it I'm afraid...must starting saving more!!
You and your videos are a dream to watch!
Thankyou that means a lot. Still very new to the whole media/YT world. Just doing it for memories in future years so never taking anything to seriously. All fun and games and just better than looking at pictures. Loads more videos to come as i've over 20 projects collected over the years!!!!!!
I recently renewed my hoses and filter on my '82 Scimitar. Filter is at the rear and was severely blocked (original filter!). I removed the left/rear wheel and bump-stop, and tackled most of it from the side. Nice video :)
Thanks. Yeah, thats stock location on the 6B. I'm going to secure mine to the chassis so its not floating and probably make a little guard to cover it to for extra safety from heat and or debris.
@@DipstickUK Apparently my filter is suppose to be secured with a padded P-clip, but I couldn't find a bolt hole. The new hoses are so thick and stiff, that I just stuck some neoprene padding to the filter, in case it knocks against the chassis. Best wishes from Ian.
"Princess Anne had one of those!" Sorry - no choice.
Indeed she did. Her last Middlebridge Scimitar '1420H' is currently in a musuem. She owned 8 Scimitars over the years. Her 1st being a 20th birthday present.
It’s rather worrying what you discover folk have done on a vehicle! And it is there life there risking when they do these lash ups too! Least proper job done now, she will go like a rocket🤣
Indeed. Obviously a little bit of cash passed the MOT'ers hands as its one of quite a few issues i've found. Yesterday discovered the headlights aren't working.
How daft do those BMW's look at a classic mini event, like cuckoo's in a sparrows nest!
the REALLY new 2023/24 ones are simply ridiculous in size....bigger than an Astra and some estates!!!! Pity they didn't rebrand them and change the name as Mini doesn't fit anymore.
6:03 The Power Steering on the R50 does naturally whine, it was a design “quirk” of the hydro-electric pump. It’s when it’s not whirring is the problem! Also, probably didn’t help it was running dry
Good to know. Been topped up since and still has the noise but at least my minds at rest now..thanks. My old Volvo V50 had exactly the same noise but had no issues.
Wow! Great turnout. How many cars were there in total?
Taken directly from their FB page: 300 vehicles attended, 240 in Parade through town, around 200 went through Pinnock tunnel
Now we all know why these phenomenal barges weigh over 2 tonnes! That’s build quality with a Capital ‘Q’! 🇮🇹 🔱
Even the the electric motors on everything had electric motors!!! The front seats alone were a ridiculous weight. The wiring looms were just silly...never seen such thick ones in any car!
Just been in Cornwall and would have gone there if I knew about it, my V6 would sound insane having its neck rung in that tunnel!
I can see why the wife is not happy sam!🤣 Your gonna be banned from going to auctions!!
Stuck the head around the hedge today and scared the neighbour!! At least it was cheaper than the "Why do you need a bloody van"!! LOL
Great vantage point.
Thanks...far better than last years location where people just kept on walking in front of me while filming...even though I was stood in the road and the pavement behind was clear!!!
Not a small project to strip that car down sam! Least I suppose what you don’t need you can sell on again🙂
Must admit to was a right mission. Very little information, if any, on the procedures of removing most things on such a vehicle.
never been there but heard of the place, there was rumours of a second series 1 behind it, which your video confirms when you checked the back wheel it was actually the front wheel of the one behind (you can see the front wing at 3.35)
Yes you are correct. Another one behind it. For years its sister PAF809 was used and parked nearby as well.
Lovely footage again sam, great rally! We are so lucky with the engines we have in the county now. Looking forward to the 70th next year👌
Thanks. Hoping to invest in better recording equipment for next years event to :)
@@DipstickUK That may be a good plan! With the amount of engines saying there coming and the road run too! It could take a bit of filming mate🙂
Great video, thanks for posting. It was a really good event with a wide variety of vehicles, all interesting. Mine was the black 2.8 Capri. Thanks.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed both the video and the event. Cracking Capri you have there. So, much jealously for so many cars!!! I had to settle for dusting of the Mondeo for this one...I was parked in the line in front of you :)
@@DipstickUK 👍
When I worked for EWS Railway this was a route I used when meeting with Emerys personnel to discuss various projects in Cornwall. It was always and exhilarating drive through as you never knew when you might find a rather large truck waiting to go through! Thought it had been given over to a cycle track. Pleased to see it still in use.
That’s interesting sam! Didn’t know it was still in use. Could not of been Broad gauge, far to narrow. Bet that was fun!👍
Yes in regular use. Keeps all the big trucks off the road as they can travel from Par Docks to Fowey via this route. It doesn't get opened up to the public anymore except on these kind of events. Strict rules and regs to follow when on it to. I believe its also being opened/used for those taking part in the Fowey Classic Car Parade after the show.
@@DipstickUK Yes being private now you don’t hear about it I bet. That tunnel must have been some Smokey for the enginemen. If it was on main line speed the pressure would of dragged the fire out of the fire hole door!😀
Thanks for sharing sam! Good rally by the look of it. Great turn out of old cars, I do like a model T. Always reminds me of the laurel and hardy films I suppose 😀
Yes it was very good. My 1st time going to this one and it was well worth it. It was nice to get out again and just enjoy events instead of battling far too many projects. Must cut back on a few but its hard. Unfortunately, no REAL big steam exhibits but they are only around the corner.
@@DipstickUK Yes we are all guilty of taking on too many projects🙂 Does you good to go and have a catch up with friends in the rally community! Just hoping for a dry west of England rally now🤞
